We went back to Mariscos Puerto Nuevo last night for dinner with couple of close friends, and it was absolutely outstanding. I honestly can't speak highly enough about this place--it remains a total gem in Seaside.The food was incredible across the board. Between our table, we had everything from their fresh, every dish was packed with flavor and served in massive portions. You can really tell they've been using the same traditional family recipes for a while making it feel comforting and authentic.The service was fast and friendly and the homey, whether you're a local or just passing through the Monterey area, this is a recommended spot if you want high-quality, authentic Mexican seafood that never misses the mark. Horrible experience. It looked okay so I took a chance. The seemingly passive-aggressive Latin woman at the counter with a ponytail was very cold and abrupt. The drink is supposed to have 7-8 ingredients, (advertised as blended green apple, parsley, cactus, spinach, orange, cucumber, celery etc) in it but it is nothing but foam. After leaving I had taken one sip and waited until I got home to drink it since I was on the phone. When I arrived home minutes later this is what was in the cup. Most of it is just foam and what you see is what was left after I had waited about 10 minutes without even drinking more than a sip and it makes me angry. It was about 9 dollars. Quick review of a Mexican restaurant I've been wanting to try for some time. A lot of Mex restaurants in Monterey are sometimes focused on Tacos, or Burritos or strictly fish oriented. I didn't find that the case with Mariscos. Instead it was a full menu that ran the gamut of Mexican food-- generous portions, good quality and presentation and fresh. Prices were generally consistent with Monterey pricing but these days even Mexican food is not cheap anymore. I was looking for chili verde enchiladas and actually found them -- surprisingly as a lot of Mex restaurants do not feature. These were a treat as they were stuffed with tasty chicken and covered in verde sauce. Fresh rice and beans on the side along with a mini salad vs the 2-3 pieces of lettuce that's more garnish than salad. Accompanied by chips and salsa. I added a Pacifico and in the top of the bottle was a delicious shrimp and a lime. Nice touch. Bottom line: a casual spot , clean and welcoming service. Go. read more

I've been going here off and on for like 15 years, whenever I end up in Monterey for some time off. It is a great place, their seafood games on point, and they also have numerous other offerings to satisfy everyone. It's really diverse clientele, people of all ages and backgrounds and the food comes out fast and in a friendly manner. If you like seafood, go. If you like Mexican, go. The ambiance is no-frills -- there's some nice art on the walls but you're probably going to be face down in some shrimp, fish, and scallops. read more

We were in the area for my MILs 60th birthday and decided to give this place another shot. My rule for Mexican food is if the restaurant is colorful the food is going to be a hit. Unfortunately, this restaurant did not meet that standard. Maybe it was our fault for not trying their seafood and that's why the food was mediocre at best. I had the Molcajete which, at most restaurants, comes with shrimp this one did not at A SEAFOOD restaurant. The only good thing in it was the carne asada. The chorizo, chicken and everything else was REALLY salty. My husband ordered the wet burrito which he enjoyed and the meat was good. The sauce was not the best but it was edible. My MIL had the chilaquiles con huevos and again everything was extremely salty. She kept mentioning how much she loves salty food but this was too much for her. She ended up eating some of my husband's left over burrito. My kids had the chicken nuggets and fries, can't really mess that up when it's frozen and deep fried. Wish I had a better experience there with their food because their service was fine but never again. read more

Mole was 2 large thick chicken thighs (yum) less bitter chocolate undertones and lighter in colour then other moles I have had and more kick (chili)than usual. Seafood dish with zucchini and veg was super delicious and large. This is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. They have the best Mexican breakfast, seafood and traditional dishes. They obviously specialize in seafood so I enjoy the tostada mixta which has octopus, fish, and shrimp ceviche. My partner likes the campechana. I live in PG and the Mexican options in Monterey (except El Charrito!) and PG are slim to none so it's worth the short drive to Seaside for this authentic spot. I love the chorizo con juevo or I have them do a combo for me of chilaquiles with chorizo and egg. It's so filling but they totally hit it out of the park. They bring you chips and salsa while you wait and I could drink that salsa. I've also tried the molcajete which is really good and filling. They give you chicken, asada, nopales, cheese, and vegetables with side of beans, guacamole and tortillas. It's pricy but worth it as you will have leftovers. Some days they also serve champurrado which I love on a cold day. The staff is super nice and service is pretty fast. The parking lot can fill up fast and be a little tight to get out of so you may need to park on the street. This place is sometimes crowded but never empty. Please support this place! read more

Been wanting Tacos/Mexican food and Seafood so I thought I'd kill 2 birds at Mariscos. Puerto Nuevo in seaside on Broadway. It was pretty good. They give u chips n salsa( salsa was kind of spicy which was great) I ordered a Corona and they bring it with a wedge if lime and a cocktail shrimp at the top which was kind of nice. To start I got a half dozen oysters with shrimp and pico, Topped with Mexican style cocktail sauce. These were excellent. You get the freshness of the pico, the nicely cooked shrimp, the sharpness and spice of the cocktail sauce and at the end u get the briney oyster. It all works pretty harmoniously and the oysters were so fresh. Next I got a Mexican. shrimp Cocktail. It came with 3-4 packets of saltine crackers. This was so refreshing and satisfying. It has chunks of avocado, cucumber, tomato, onion, jalapeno, cilantro, a copious amount of shrimp and a cocktail sauce that was a great balance of savory, salty, sweet with a small hint of heat. Perfect combination. Becusee I'm a fatty and need to fill the rest of my stomach we also got 2 Adobada tacos which were surprisingly good. Usually if a place specializes in seafood you would expect the other food to lack but these tacos were great. They were on the full size corn tortillas so they're massive. It has a mountain of well seasoned Adobada. It was so flavorful and not tough at all. Not pictured was a Bistec Ranchero Plate which came with a huge Bistec, Rice and Beans. My nephew really liked it. It filled him up and he's a big eater. The bill came out be about 80 bux and for all that food it's not a bad price. Would love to come back and try more things off the menu. They even have a few out door seats for those who have pets. Absolutely recommend this place. read more

Ordered 3 tostadas mixtas , only brought us one. The cheese on our costa azul was burnt out and dry. No air conditioning you'd imagine they make so much money especially on Monterey car week and couldn't have an operating a/c yet alone a portable one. Watta scam. Bad day? Busy day? Fantastic Mexican food place! If you are passing through onto Monterey or headed back to the Bay Area, I would recommend stopping in here. It is just off the highway and absolutely delicious. Staff is friendly. Food comes out fairly quickly. Portions are great size. We tried the Puerto Nuevo Combination plate - breaded fish fillet, ceviche & shimp. It was delicious. The shrimp was very fresh and the fish fillet added something different. Very large portions. We also tried a few of the tacos, carne asada and Chile verde and both were amazing. The tamales though were the star of the show. Grab one of those a la carte and you won't regret it. Very happy with this find. Highly recommend it! She added some dishes that we didn't order and pretended that she accidentally made a mistake, but it was obvious that she was lying. instead of $58 she tried to charge us $80. otherwise the restaurant was empty so her excuse that she changed the bills is a complete lie. read more

This was a little treasure. It had been a few years since pre-Covid that I've been here. My guests and I both ordered the enchiladas hers with beef mine with cheese. The enchilada was absolutely stuffed with cheese. It was so tasty. Refried beans were extra special. I didn't have the rice because the beans are enough for me. Small side salad accompanied both plates just enough and a terrific dressing. My guest totally enjoy the beef enchiladas and we split a cold Corona! There's lots of seating outside, and a fair amount of seats in the interior. Very friendly staff. There was a party of 12 celebrating a birthday and I was stunned that the service did individual checks. Absolutely unheard of in water great service. We will definitely return . read more
