Local place that never disappoints. Large portions and the food is fresh and so tasty. The service is fast and friendly. Love the quesadillas, breakfast burritos and chicken tortilla soup. The chips and salsa are the bomb. Been coming here for years and they satisfy my need for local authentic Mexican food.

My family was craving Mexican food after a hike-filled day in Big Sur so we decided to check out Los Amigos after looking up recs on Yelp! The restaurant is located in downtown Pacific Grove which seemed to be a lively area. There is limited parking in front of and behind the restaurant. When we arrived around 8:15pm, the restaurant was winding down so not too crowded. We ordered family style: veggie chimichanga, veggie burrito, veggie fajitas, and churro. We enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa! Note for vegetarians/vegans: the rice is cooked with chicken stock so we requested our meals without it. All the dishes were tasty! The ingredients were very fresh. My family appreciated how there were plenty of vegetables (including cauliflower which is not very common!). Generous portion sizes. The veggie fajitas was huge and came with lots of sides! My personal favorite was the chimichanga - thought it had the most flavor and I liked the guacamole, sour cream, and pick de gallo on top. The churros were delicious! I liked how they were filled with Dulce de leche and also how it came with vanilla ice cream (which was amazing!). The churro itself was a little savory which contrasted nicely with the ice cream. I would definitely recommend Los Amigos. Flavorful food, good bang for buck, and friendly customer service. When we told the waiter about our vegetarian dietary restriction, he gave us a heads up about the rice and appropriately gave us suggestions from the menu. Food came out fairly quick. Support local businesses like Los Amigos!

Cute little place at the back of a parking lot. Spacious and they do have a tv above the bar to watch games and such. Ordered quite a bit for dinner and lunch the next day. Cheese fries are a good little snack. Come with tons of catch up so if that's not your thing say so. Flautas come with a bunch of sour cream so also say something if that's not your thing. Tamales are good but they don't come with rice or beans and they do come completely drenched in sauce. The chicken with red sauce was far more flavorful than the pork with green sauce. Agua frescas are apparently mixed as one of us asked for jimaica and the other tamarindo and we got the same thing. Super burrito is bursting out of the tortilla and i specifically asked for everything but sour cream sooooo good. Guacamole is fresh! The chips and salsa that comes with ordering are extra yummy. Perfectly light and clean fried chips.... And that salsa **drool** huge fan! Service is fast, so make sure you order with and without the things you like. As not everything is listed on the menu as ingredients that come with. Would definitely pop back in to this local spot.

I forgot how good the food is here. In PG for dentist appointment and got a craving for Mexican food. Sat at the bar, ordered the enchiladas suiza with chicken. Man they have the best chips and salsa I've ever had. Perfect amount of spice and everything is chopped up evenly. The enchiladas were good but I wasn't really a fan of the green sauce, tasted too sweet. Ended up ordering a pint of salsa to go. Definitely check this place out if you are in the area.

Inviting and calm atmosphere! Super quick and friendly service. The music that was played throughout the restaurant was very relaxing and not overstimulating/loud at all. Complementary chips and salsa were served to us once we sat down. Great food, good value!

Perfectly average Mexican place. Everyone is really friendly and theres plenty of old white guys hanging around. Food is just average, nothing really noteworthy, but in a nice nostalgic way. Salsa is decent but still has that cheap canned tomato flavor. I'd come back just for the vibes and convenience.

This place is located in the very back of a cul-de-sac that houses a lot of other restaurant options. Inside is small but comfortable and the staff are really friendly. We were told to seat ourselves and there were three other groups in the restaurant during our visit. Everyone is really short staffed right now so service takes a bit of time to get to you. After ordering, there is also a bit of a wait for food to come out. Luckily, they offer complementary chips and salsa so you have some snacks to munch on while you wait for your entrées and your appetizer. The flautas were really fresh and made for a fantastic appetizer. 10/10 would recommend. When our burritos were delivered, they were delivered to the incorrect person which caused a bit of confusion between my buddy and I, as we took some large bites out of the ends of our burritos, and then realized that we were eating each other's food. Haha, whoops! Having been able to try the chipotle burrito as well as a Carne Asada burrito, I can say that I recommend both but the chipotle burrito is definitely better because if the added salsas/chipotle sauce. Their menus on their website are outdated so make sure you check here on yelp for updated offerings. Tip; their burritos are stuffed with wet ingredients and have a tendency to fall apart, so be prepared to turn this into a fork and knife burrito rather than a fully handheld one.

You can tell it's been a local favorite for decades--the hand-scrawled signs and slogans everywhere give it so much character. They've been around for 40 years! The Blackened Chicken sandwich is what they're famous for, and it lives up to the hype as I've been ordering it since middle school. It's got a solid kick, and that buttermilk garlic dressing they use is addictive. If you're leaning more toward the taqueria side, the Blackened Shrimp Tacos and the Steak Fajitas are the move. I also get the House Burrito a lot as it's one of their famous specialties. Everything feels fresh and grilled, not greasy, which is a nice change of pace. The service is fast and friendly and the portions are huge for the price. It's a small, no-frills spot inside, but they have plenty of seating and a steady stream of locals picking up takeout which is always a good sign. Every meal comes with chips and salsa! Pro tip: They're closed on Sundays, so make sure you get your fix during the week. Definitely the best spot in PG for a quick, high-quality lunch that won't break the bank.

Parking is sparse in front of the restaurant but paid parking is nearby. We entered and wow, the place was busy. Not overwhelming but lots of people in the indoor dining area enjoying their food. The menu is overheard and we decided what we wanted and ordered. The employees were kind and helpful, we probably were the only people that didn't speak Spanish well in the restaurant but that wasn't an issue, SCW got the number 2 combo, I got the mole. Also ordered an appetizer. Seated and waited about 10 minutes and our order came out. Everything was freaking amazing. Such great flavors and so fresh. Even SCW who doesn't necessarily gravitate towards Mexican food made nom nom nom sounds the whole time. The mole was incredible, the best I've ever had. The whole time we were here it was an endless stream of customers, even late lunch hour. SCW was impressed by the contrast stream of people coming in. We even walked around the wharf nearby for a while and drove past again and it was still packed with people. Do yourself a favor and visit El Cantato. I know I will.

It took our party (8 people) a while to decide as we were spoiled with choices. But we had time as it was pretty busy for a Friday around 1. The picture included might not show the best scale but I had 2 others helping me to eat this plate and otherwise I would not have been able to finish it (even as a larger man). The crunchy jalapeños with the chips, beans and guacamole were the perfect balance. As a meat eater, the texture of the faux meat was a touch odd, but the flavor more than made up for it. The staff was helpful and attentive even as they were balancing supporting customers, answer phone orders, and taking regular orders. My wife and will definitely be stopping by here more often!!
