We moved to Monterey 2.5 years ago. My wife and I love exceptional food, as she is a retired Executive chef and I love to cook. We have tested several Mexican restaurants in Monterey and Pacific Grove areas. Los Amigos - Hands Down- the best there is! The food is very authentic, always piping hot, and the owners are always working and the friendliest people ever! We come here literally twice a week. Our favorites are the taco fajita salad, chile releno/enchilada combo, salsa is perfectly mixed. The beers are always ice cold too. The front outside patio is perfect for when we bring our two little chihuas. Dont miss this hidden gem. read more

In-laws decided to visit for the weekend and we needed to find a place close to home for dinner. Came on to yelp to find something. It was between La Bahia and Los Amigos. Both restaurants had similar reviews. Some complained about food being bland, lack of taste, bad service. Others enjoyed the food and found it tasty. (Not everyone is going to have the same experience.) Decided to go with Los Amigos. We don't go out to eat often and didn't realize how close this little restaurant is to our house (2-3min away). There are other restaurants in this area so parking can be hard to find if it were busier. It wasn't busy when we got there. People mostly came in for take out. Aside from us, there was only another couple eating. Host was friendly and sweet. We received chips and salsa while we waited for our food. Chips were a little salty but salsa was tasteful. I ordered a Horchata to drink and it was a little creamy than what I'm used to but overall I enjoyed it. I attached photos in this review labeling what we each got. The portions were good especially for the price range. *Remember: they are trying to run a business* Three of us ended up take home what we couldn't finish. As far as taste, we all found our dishes to be decently flavored. My chicken flautas were a bit dry but I didn't mind it. I did notice that the rice was a tad too salty. Not sure if they season with salt after they cook it and/or before they send it out. I feel that guests should add salt themselves if they think its needed. I did appreciate that when our food was ready it was delivered by the host and the cook that made it. Not sure if he was the owner but it's nice to see other employees be somewhat involved in the guests experience. Overall our experience was great and we can see ourselves coming back. read more

To start, I came and placed an order to go. I was told to come back in about ten minutes so I decided to grab some things from Safeway. As I returned about 20 minutes later my order had not even been sent to the cooks! I proceeded to wait about 15 minutes until my food was done. After receiving the food it was presented mediocre and the taste was so bland that even their "salsa" couldn't save it. It seems like this restaurant caters to the lack of culture in the pacific grove area. I definitely won't be back. read more

Stopped in on Saturday night for dinner with the wife and the 2 kids. The food just average not bad at all but nothing more than that. The servers were very nice but restaurant was understaffed for the dinner rush and food was slow to come out. My wife and I both ordered Fiesta Los Amigos. It came with a Tamale, a mole enchilada and a camarones asados. We found everything in general to be a bit bland and white washed. The tamale I got had pork inside. The ratio of pork to masa was not great there was very little masa so it completely feel apart. The enchilada was chicken and was just ok, the mole was well balanced and enjoyable. The camarones asados- shrimp were cooked nicely but lacked seasoning to make them sing. Service was pretty good. The ladies really hustled but they were woefully understaffed for a full restaurant. From where we sat I could food dying in the window as the two servers tried to handle the entire floor. Will consider trying again, but I doubt it will be something I even remember we ate at several months from now. read more

Great food, great service, and great prices! We found this place after going for a little walk in the neighborhood, and we knew we should go back another time to try this Mexican restaurant! We loved that we could seat ourselves anywhere we wanted, and the server promptly came to greet us and bring some chips and salsa. I had a classic Margarita and my husband IPA, which was cheaper than most places. The ambiance had a chill and relaxed vibe. I was grateful to find gluten-free options on the menu, and I also appreciate the kitchen being mindful of my husband's shellfish allergy. I ordered takeout on the recommendation of a friend- did not disappoint! I am forever on the hunt for an enchilada with "orange sauce," which is common in the Central Valley (and so tasty!). This enchilada is the closest I've found locally. Not your average red sauce, but more orange. Solid rice and beans, and excellent chips and salsa. Good portion size! I visited this restaurant with my family and was not satisfied with the food. Positives: the staff was very friendly, even though they seemed overwhelmed on a Sunday evening. Quality opportunities: (1)it appeared on a Sunday evening this restaurant only had two employees working the bar, hosting, and waiting duties. This lead to extended wait periods for takeout and dining in. (2) the kitchen staff left sour cream on all ordered dishes, even though I was requested sans sour cream on my entire order. read more

We ordered from DoorDash. It was disgusting. Barely warm, under seasoned. The sauce on the Chile Rellenos was disgusting.it tasted old, like it was cooked earlier, then reheated. Chimichanga, flabby, the chicken old. The only thing worth eating were the chips. So disappointing. We've ordered before and it was delicious. A shame. We ordered from the menu online and picked it up in a timely manner. The nachos were soggy, the tacos were soggy. The meat was super dry. The rice tasted like it was a few days old and everything kind of tasted the same. To top it all off the final tally was more than we expected because they changed their menu prices in house but not online. We mentioned it to them and they just said it was a problem they knew about. I think the DoorDash prices are even cheaper than what it cost to pick up in store. We are hoping it was just an off night after a busy week with the golf crowd here. But I don't know. If they get that menu updated so that it reflects the price we will actually be paying that would be helpful. Will give it a try again and want to continue to support local businesses. Everyone behind the counter was super nice even if they couldn't really explain why we were overcharged. read more

So I just left Los Amigos, and it was my very first visit. I ordered 2 a la carte tacos, and was charged over $15. If you look at the menu, the price for an a la carte taco is either $4.50 or $5.95 depending on the menu you get. I looked at multiple menus. In all cases neither of these add up to over $15 for two tacos. This charge was not for a combination plate, but rather an a la carte charge for two tacos. When I asked about the price difference, I was told they just changed the price yesterday and I got a lot of excuses as to why the charge was different from the menu prices. Plus, when I asked how much the tacos were, they could not tell me. And the young man who was handling this didn't seem to care much about it. I couldn't have been more disappointed and will probably never go back. There are a lot of places for tacos in town and at least 2 places within walking distance from Los Amigos. Plus, the tacos were not worth a $7.50+ charge. read more

I was visiting from the Bay Area and took a chance on this place. I had a combination chile relleno and chicken crispy taco, with rice and beans. I was very very disappointed, and surprised at how bad it was. The chile relleno was made from a canned chile (not necessarily a bad thing), but it was small and swimming in a very watery, colorless sauce. The chicken meat in the taco tasted terrible and was cold. The cheese on the taco looked like it came from Safeway in those pre-shredded bags of mild cheddar. The beans, refried, were nothing to write home about. The salsa had way too much oregano! Awful. Maybe I order the wrong thing. Maybe I should have ordered the fish tacos. If that's their specialty maybe they should emphasize that on the menu. read more

We came here for lunch today and sat in the back room. I noticed coming out of a pipe on the wall what looked like a rat, stuck in a pipe. We almost left, immediately, but one of my coworkers Went and investigated and it is a cover for the pipe that looks like a rat head. This kind of thing is so not funny in a restaurant. I come here at least once a week. The chicken enchiladas are so delicious, I think I'm addicted! :) Everything I have ordered here is very good and the service is wonderful. It's a shame I was looking forward to this taqueria. I do doordash and got two or three customers from there so I was anxious to try it. After I got off shift I swung by and got a carnitas burrito and chicken nachos. The nachos were nothing fantastic and they tacked on an extra $5 charge which wasn't a big deal but I couldn't see any meat and as my girlfriend dug into it there was hardly any. Wasn't too excited about the burrito neither it lact taste but had a good presentation. The girl at the front counter could barely speak English or at least had a hard time finding understanding me... I asked for a rice roncata and she threw in a bottle of coke I didn't ask for which was $5. The rancata tasted like it was rushed. Overall I spent about $38 and I was unimpressed. read more

Not very good. The reviews were deceiving. We ordered for pick up. We are not from here so we relied on the reviews. My sisters fish tacos were burned, they forgot my sons rice and beans, the rice is hard and flavorless, and my Camarones Diablo was coated in mostly oil and nothing spicy about it. I get it... we are in pacific grove, but they are very expensive to not have tasted that great! You live and learn, but will definitely not go back. read more

If I could give zero here, I would. I went to pick up an order. I was charged. $60 bucks for a bean and cheese burrito and a sandwich. Then told me my sons ordered other items. I paid and what was supposed to be ready and wasn't even close. Then called my son to find out why they ordered so much food. They didn't!! She was billing me for more food than they ordered. When I went in to ask her why she charged me so much, she then told me we never ordered. Is she's charging me for food that was never ordered???? What in the world is going on here. Check your bill here or we will do, never ever come back. Charge more, raise prices, whatever you need to but don't lie and rip people off. Very rude and treated us as if they were doing us a favor my serving us. Went to Micheals and we're just treated so kindly. We are forever Michaels customers now. read more
