Oi this place. I have been eating there off and on for the past few years. Some days the burritos are good and some days not. Ordered a large plantain burrito today, i normally get a small. Size was the same as a medium so just get a medium. Problem today was there was one piece of plantain about three inches long, the rest black beans, etc etc. Guy was too lazy to fry up some new plantains so just used that one measly piece. The lady behind the counter was giggling when she handed it to me. I'm pretty much a skip on this place. Don't bother ordering a 12.5" tortilla versus the standard 10.5" tortilla. While it may be larger, the filings and portion sizes are the same. You'd figure they would give more chicken, rice, etc on a large tortilla but it seems as though the portion size is the same. I'd pass on the chips and guacamole. Hits all the spots!! My order: coconut shrimp burrito. (both times). Note: both times I've eaten here, it was through delivery. The coconut shrimp burrito was just what I needed when I didn't want to get out of my PJs. I have never had a coconut shrimp burrito, and my first (and second) did not disappoint. The coconut shrimp did have a slight difficulty holding their crunchy texture, but I'm sure this is due to the time lag during delivery (no "points" deducted). The online ordering was easy to customize your burrito, and they executed each order perfectly. I also want to commend them for wrapping the burrito in such a way it did not make a mess, even when I ate it in bed. All in all, this is likely going to become one of my go-to places. The plantain is perfectly cooked, soft, sweet, and delicious. I had chips and guacamole as a side. You can always tell a good Mexican place by the guacamole, and this was good. I've been a customer here for years and the food is always fabulous - but lately, they've started cutting back on quantity noticeably. The last few times I ordered a 12" burrito, what I got was about 50% smaller than what I've received in the past. At first, I thought they had given me a 10" accidentally, but now I realize it's just that they're putting in much less food so they are smaller when folded. My wife got a bowl and had the same experience - noticeably less food than in the past. I've also stopped ordering guacamole and chips because the guacamole is about 6 tablespoons of very mediocre guac and the chips have gotten worse each time. Before the price was very good for what you got - but now it's starting to feel over-priced given how much they cut back. Very disappointing after being a customer for so long. read more

I absolutely hate writing a review online but I absolutely love the Los amigos west Roxbury location and they are amazing especially for the price. Hopefully this review helps this location realize they're doing something wrong. First mess up- I had to go into the restaurant after I had a long shift so I got Uber eats since I didn't want to drive 15 min there and 15 min back for a burrito bowl. They messed up my order. Literally every aspect of the order was wrong (there was no protein, there were beans when I said no beans, etc) and the "manager" was nowhere to be found when I decided to drive there because I was so annoyed I went to get my money back. I want protein on my burrito- call me crazy. He was not on site and not available to fix problems with customers especially when the employees' English isn't great. This location's food quality is nothing in comparison to West Roxbury and it's so clear manager doesn't care whatsoever. This time around when I gave them a second chance- The rice was crunchy, like how do you mess up rice at a Mexican restaurant? The order was wrong in other ways as well and missing things. My family eats here fairly regularly, either in person (when that was possible) or with delivery. The food is good but the preparation is very inconsistent, especially with delivery orders. My son and I really like the burritos and my fiancee likes the tacos. Good flavor and all that jazz. Burrito prices are pretty good; $4 per taco is definitely high. The main issue we have encountered numerous times this year is that orders aren't fulfilled as requested when ordering via DoorDash or any of those places. Toppings have regularly gone missing. Sour cream, corn salsa, lettuce, and other things have all been left out during various orders. The specific app used to order does not make a difference, missing items is not always App 1 or App 2, its all of them so the app itself is not where things are falling apart. Not sure if there are new cooks or where the lack of quality control stems from. Hopefully they resolve this soon as it is something that many other reviewers have noted. read more

It's a serving of sorrow and resentment wrapped in a tortilla. UPDATE UPDATE: Los amigos is trying an innovative new program where you order one thing and they give you something completely different! You won't find this out until you get home and your son opens the burrito to find an inedible combo of pineapple, beans, and sour cream. you'll then find you can't actually call to resolve the issue because no one answers the phone and the mailbox is full. What's even better is that when you drive all the way back to inform them of the mistake you're met with blind indifference and blank stares. If you ask for a refund you're told "no refund, manager not here". You can ask them to call the manager, Igor, and they claim they have no way of contacting him. "What if the building catches on fire?" *shrug* It's one thing to constantly mess up orders but to have such terrible customer service really is something else. If you're in the area go to tango mango in newton center (dece) or Anna's taqueria in newton highlands (amazing) and spare yourself the shame and humiliation of paying an establishment to make you feel like an idiot. read more

A patron of their Newtonville location. The plantain burrito is ridiculously delicious. The plantains are sweet and slightly crispy and are so yummy mixed with the jalapeños and black beans. I get mine without dairy but add salsa roja for extra spice! Everything tasted fresh and delicious and the staff were friendly and kind. The large burrito was super stuffed and so huge! They have burritos in 10" and 12", bowls, and quesadillas! I got the 12" and was really stuffed at the end of it. But #noregrets. I went for my own spin on the The Plantain Burrito. It comes plantain, guacamole, and mango salsa. On its own it's amazing but I just added a bunch of the cheeses. I'm cheesy like that. I really like the freshness and quality of the food! Los Amigos was a place that my wife and I discovered yesterday, on an improvised visit after the original place that we wanted to go to in the area was closed due to their Sunday hours. Upon walking in we found a small, casual Mexican restaurant in an area of Newton where there's few other options, especially when it comes to Latino fare. The menu itself is pretty basic: burritos, tacos, enchiladas, salads and plates. Nothing crazy but some of the ingredient combinations might surprise you. An example? Sure! How about their mushroom burrito which features... you guessed it... mushrooms! Or their surf & turf burrito which has both steak and shrimp in it. You can also get one with plantains right in it or even potatoes in another. Stop the madness! We promptly placed our order, paid and sat at one of the few seats by the window. The place is tiny and there's very limited seating, for probably about 8-10 people max via one table and a counter that faces the street. I decided, after a bit of indecision, to get an Al Pastor burrito ($6.85) which has marinated grilled pork, pineapple, caramelized onions, Spanish rice, black beans, jack cheese, salsa fresca and romaine lettuce. The wife settled for a chipotle chicken salad ($7.35) which had some shredded chicken, corn, black beans, Tortillas strips, jack cheese, mixed greens and a delicious cilantro-lime vinaigrette. Both came out of the kitchen fairly quickly and tasted very fresh. My burrito was awesome and not too salty, or sweet, which happens frequently with such foods. Her salad looked pretty healthy and both items were devoured in instants. So yeah, they have a pretty decent selection of drinks, a solid, well-executed and fresh menu with a few modern twists but why not 5 stars? Well frankly, the staff is mostly the reason. They brought my wife the wrong salad, and when she mentioned it, they did swap it but didn't apologize and weren't even that nice about it. Dan, the owner, is extremely passionate about his business and product and makes sure to serve only the freshest and tastiest ingredients. After over 10 years of ordering burritos, I know specific ingredients to put in my burrito, but there is a large list of creations for those that aren't familiar with specific ingredients. Personally, I've had the surf and turf which is delicious. As for my burrito, I get cheese, rice, black beans, chicken, salsa (pico de gallo), sour cream, guacamole, and hot sauce. I love the blend of the flavors and all the ingredients have life. Both in taste and color, Dan's passion is truly accentuated in the product he serves. The place has a decent amount of seating for the location, but if you're in a rush, you can be in and out in 5 minutes. The shrimp was big and fresh and had a perfect texture. They have a great menu selection - pescetarian/vegetarian friendly. Reasonable prices - my burrito cost about 8 bucks. You can eat in but the place is small and it's mainly window seating. They do have a bathroom in the back. There is a metered public parking lot across the street, behind the bank. The service was just OK. The counter girl wasn't particularly friendly. She never asked if I wanted a drink (in this case, I could have used a reminder plus it's a good business policy). Fresh, affordable food! I ordered a burrito bowl which was good for the most part. The rice was a little bland, didn't have much flavor. However, the regular grilled chicken has a lot of flavor and a little spice to it. I like it with the chipotle crema instead of sour cream. The cotija cheese is worth the extra 60 cents. Ingredients taste and look fresh, unlike some other places (mostly chains like Qdoba) where I have encountered wilted lettuce. I actually like this place better than the famous Felipe's in Harvard Square. Prices are comparable to Chipotle and usually under $10 (all depends on what type of meat you get etc). read more
