I was in Boston for a team offsite, and the locals suggested we check this place out -- and I can totally see why! This seems like the perfect after-work hangout spot for happy hour, catching a game, or just chilling with friends. The vibe was super fun and relaxed. Everything we ordered was so good! Even the buffalo cauliflower was amazing -- it honestly tasted almost like wings. We had such a great time here and will definitely add this spot to our list for the next time we're back in Boston!

I was in the area and decided to hop on yelp and search restaurants in the area. One of the suggestions that came up was this restaurant. I decided to give it a try since it was only nine minutes away from where I was. When I walked in my child and I were immediately sat, and my child was provided a kids menu. My child went with the pasta and butter, which is her favorite dish from anywhere. I had the pan roasted chicken and a white sangria and for dessert we shared a caramel brownie cheesecake. This restaurant is big and spacious. It was very busy and seems to be a popular restaurant in that area. Our waiter was extremely friendly, patient and attentive. I definitely recommend this restaurant. Spaghetti and Butter ($12): 10/10 Pan Roasted Chicken ($27): 10/10 White Sangria ($14): 10000/10 Caramel brownie cheesecake($13): 1/10 (we didn't like it at all)

Found ourselves headed to Newton in need of some dinner plans when we found District 118 on Yelp. Made a quick res using open table and we were set. We arrived about 20 mins early and they were able to take accommodate it. We had a nice, high top booth by the window with great views of the bar area. The decor is modern and upscale although you could easily get away with casual attire. We were greeted right away by both the hostess and our server, Busra who was fantastic throughout the evening. Started with some delicious cocktails and fresh guacamole. I had the short rib grilled cheese which had a near perfect ratio of meat to cheese and the bread was not overly toasted where it tears up your palate. The sweet potato fries weren't much to look at but they were really good. Everyone had a great meal and the only minor infraction we could find was a few wilted pieces of romaine in the ceasar salad; which can happen anywhere. Overall, it was a great experience. Prices were a bit higher than similar places at home but it is also Newton so $16 cocktails and $22 burger w fries is probably average. Plus, the quality was worth the price IMHO.

"Arrested on charges of unemployment, He was sitting in the witness stand The judge's wife called up the district attorney Said you free that brown eyed man" (Chuck Berry) Our party of four adults and two children had a very enjoyable dinner at District 118 a few nights ago. Our server, Lucie, was a real pleasure, she was funny, helpful, charming and very professional. I loved the way she interacted with our grandchildren when they ordered their meals. We sat at a big round table on the left side of the restaurant and that worked very well for interaction and conversation. They have a wonderful menu of shareable appetizers, soups, salads, burgers and handhelds, entrees, sides, and.....yes.......kids meals. We started off with some shareables, and since the kids had been here before and were fans of the Bavarian Pretzel Rods (Cinnamon-honey butter and french onion dip for $15.00) we ordered a serving, plus the Ahi Nachos ($15), Zucchini Chips (with Tzatziki, Garlic sauces for $14.00), and a Shrimp Bomb (Tempura Fried Shrimp, Homemade Garlic Mayo, Spicy Cocktail Sauce for $19.00). I sampled three of the shareables (not the pretzels) and loved the shrimps and the lightly fried delicate zucchini chips the most. The adult meals were a Prime Steak and Spinach Salad (8 oz prime sirloin, spinach, kale, soft egg, tomatoes, pickled red onions, brie croutons, and sherry vinaigrette for $24.00), a Salmon Burger (Ground Faroe Island salmon, lemon caper aioli, wilted spinach, brioche bun, and choice of fries, salad, or Caesar salad for $22.00), a District 118 Burger (custom Angus blend, aged white Cheddar, bacon, fried onion, jalapeño marmalade, and sesame bun and choice of fries, salad, or Caesar salad for $22.00), and a Quinoa and Mushroom Veggie Burger (Shiitake, crimini, portobello, garbanzo, Parmesan, Swiss, caramelized onions, and red pepper relish and choice of fries, salad, or Caesar salad for $19.00). I had the Veggie Burger with a side salad and really enjoyed it. The generously sized burger patty had an almost "beefy" taste and texture and was excellent. The side salad was fresh and yummy, especially the soy vinaigrette dressing. And now to the children's meals. They offer six of them - Kids cheeseburger, Tenders, Grilled Cheese, Kids Mac and cheese, Pizza, and Pasta - each is $12. I thought the pricing was pretty reasonable for a Boston suburb but was disappointed to see that an iced tea was $4. Overall service, food quality, and value were high, so we were quite satisfied at District 118. PRO TIP No worries about parking -they have plenty of spaces all around the restaurant and strip mall.

Excellent Food, Ambiance, Service and Prices We were worried when we saw a full parking lot but the space was large enough to seat us without a wait. For an appetizer we got the Shrimp Bomb, a play on Bang Bang Shrimp. Shrimps were cooked perfectly Tempura batter delicious Homemade Garlic Mayo Cocktail Sauce, we couldn't get enough of (don't worry they gave plenty). sooo good Entrees consisted of Short Rib Grilled Cheese, with a side Caesar Salad. They nailed it and it was delicious, salad was light and complimentary to the decadence of the sandwich. Braised Lamb Gnocchi In a sautéed Ragu Sauce. This was outstanding It's like they found a way to caramelize the ragu sauce. Everything about this dish was exceptional. Even the mushrooms were special. My only knock was a little oily but still delicious! Maine natural Root beer. Never had it before but it was delicious They have activities and meals for kids! Our daughter was plenty entertained!

Gin + Yang (Brockmans Gin, Chambord, housemade grenadine, lime, Graham Beck Brut Rose), Shrimp Bomb and Key lime pie

Took a large party here after our fencing tournament, and we were most satisfied with the food. Cocktails were on point; I tried the excellent Gin + Yang (Brockmans Gin, Chambord, housemade grenadine, lime, Graham Beck Brut Rose). Among the other dinner highlights were the Shrimp Bombs and Key lime pie.

Service and atmosphere was great. Good variety of food and cocktails. Shrimp appetizer was very good. Main dishes were a little but one note and lacked adequate salt and pepper. I would still try again.

Duck Breast and Mushroom Risotto

We enjoyed our dinner here. My husband got the salmon, and it was grilled perfectly with crispy skin. He said he didn't care for the squash risotto that came with it though. I got the duck, that came with cherries, mushroom risotto and spinach. I really liked the dish! The service is nice, fast and friendly. We liked the dark rustic, casual atmosphere of this restaurant. Overall a great place to go for dinner.

Braised Lamb Gnocchi

The interior was comforting w a modern touch. You also have the option to sit outdoors. I see a lot groups sit outside. The food was delicious. I had the gnocchi and the chef brought it out himself. The flavors were excellent and so was my cocktail. They had a lot of great items on the menu that I must try and great options. The staff made me feel right at home if I had time to stay longer I would have.

We were 6 people, bill was around 380..with the tax, tip & recommended 4% for the kitchen staff, another 80 in fees, which kills me after traveling through Europe fairly often. So 440 total. Way to much for one drink each for 5 of us, no drink for the 6th, no bottle of wine, split 1 app 7 olives, no coffee, 2 desserts. Way too pricey. When did 34-38 dollar entrees become the norm ? I would never return for one reason..that 4% tip for the kitchen. Pay your back of the house staff from those $$$$ entrees. Perhaps another idea is to take a % off each $15+ cocktail and pay their kitchen staff with it. I have not seen this done in years..absolutely no where. During the height of Covid, yes. But it faded away rather quickly and left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Also, I'd recommend lighter plates, those poor ladies hauling in those large & heavy dishes is not a good look.

Overall, everything tasted great (esp the fried chicken and home fries) and the portions were massive to just right. If there were a few kinks to iron out, I'd say that the beignets weren't really airy and some of the mushroom stems in the omelette were really tough and should've been discarded before cooking. Next for dinner: their fried chicken dinner which came with Mac and cheese, collard greens/broccolini, cornbread, and the tempura hake, and a side of cornbread with pecan butter. That pecan butter was delicious, we definitely asked for more. The fried chicken dinner was also amazing, every single dish in it. The hake while crispy, didn't have enough salt. The server fixed it immediately with a side of garlic aioli and that was great. If I could make a suggestion, I would say they should swap out the celery root slaw for something that goes better with the fish. Service was excellent both times. Very friendly and accommodating, always asking if we enjoyed our meal and they were quick to make things right if we had requests. Ambiance is really nice, very warm, inviting, perfect for a sit down meal. Apart from a few kinks in their dishes (which I'm sure they can resolve), I'd give them 5 stars.

Post-COVID, life looks a little different. I've changed jobs and moved to another town, so it's no longer the easy drop-in it once was. Still, I make a point to come back at least every few months. What hasn't changed is the consistency. This remains one of the most reliably excellent restaurants in the Boston area, and still one of my all-time top five--while others that once held that spot haven't quite held up. One thing has changed, though: the Ghost of Mary. Scotty, the former bar manager, created what's still my favorite cocktail of all time. When he left, the drink left with him (by mutual agreement), and while he generously shared the recipe with me, I've never quite managed to recreate it at home. It was clearly meant to be made by the expert. That said, Sycamore hasn't missed a beat. The space is still as comfortable and quirky as ever, the food remains consistently excellent, and the current bar program is in very capable hands. The cocktails are thoughtful and well-executed--just maybe don't remind me about the one I'm missing

They have a great cocktail and wine list; I always have a hard time choosing just one. I went with a vodka drink called Nothing Rhymes Orange and my husband had a beer. Since we were not that hungry he ordered the Chorizo Croquettas and I had my favorite salad in the world (not kidding) their Kale Salad. Let me just tell you 1. if you don't like kale, you will love this salad. Just the way they make it and the flavors/crunch will make your mouth water 2. you will eat the whole thing. 3. trust me. If there is one app that you need to order its the chorizo croquettas, OMG. They are like little small drops of heaven and there are only 3 so if you plan to share I would recommend ordering more than just one. For dessert, we ordered an Espresso Martini. The only thing that was missing is the coffee beans but still good. Thanks Sycamore for another fabulous dinner and evening. Thanks Kale Salad for being the best ever. We walked into a space that is comfortable and notably quiet for its size, which made it a good option for larger parties or anyone who wants to actually have a conversation without competing with the room. Live music downstairs adds a different dimension to evening visits, and the kitchen stays open until midnight, which makes it a reliable option when other spots have already closed. The nachos are the standout order and the dish most worth building your visit around. They came out loaded and well constructed without collapsing into the pile of soggy chips that ruins most nacho plates. The smash tacos are worth ordering across a few different fillings to get a sense of what the kitchen does well, and the birria tacos in particular have built a following for the depth of flavor in the braised meat and the accompanying consommé for dipping. We tried a few of the other taco options, and they landed on the milder side in terms of seasoning, which was a bit of a letdown compared to the birria. The portion size relative to price also felt a little small on some plates. The ceviche was decent but benefited from some additional flavor, so adjusting expectations on that particular order makes sense. Service was attentive and the pacing of the meal matched the relaxed atmosphere of the room. The staff knew the menu well and offered thoughtful recommendations without being pushy. For a Latin restaurant in Boston that delivers on atmosphere, late hours, and a few standout dishes like the nachos and birria tacos, Lockheart is a solid option worth keeping in mind for a group dinner or a late night meal.
