Hi, I got a parking ticket recently. This is obviously fair, I messed up. So I'm happy to pay this ASAP to get it out of the way. This is going to be a long rant. The ticket hasn't popped up on the website for a week, and so I make a call to the office. Note that this ticket doesn't have the penalty amount due on the bottom, and the writing by the officer is not the most legible everywhere else (the reason for the ticket). I've also tried paying online, and it fails despite the ticket number being correct. Of course, it doesn't look like the tech and web apps here are maintained well, from an SE point of view. So I proceed with the call. After going through the bot, it determines that there is no ticket on the file, which means permissions haven't been enabled yet. So I get carried over to customer service: I get a lady on the phone, and I'm sure she's had better days and isn't always like this. However, right off the bat she's very rude and her pronounciation and emphasis of important words is not the best (but I don't mind this at all, but maybe she was rude because I was having trouble hearing her?). I'll even list the time I called the office (2:08), so she knows exactly who this is. She sarcastically says, "Did the officer give you a blank ticket?" after I answered her question about the penalty amount being non-existent. **No shit** it's not a blank ticket, how do you think I even called the office in the first place? Later, she asks me, "OK so what did the officer cite you for?" I stated that I'm not sure, I'm being cited for parking incorrectly and the ticket is not legible. And of course, she has to say "Well obviously you're being cited for a parking ticket, but what is the reason." I once again state that the ticket is not legible, because I just want to quickly get to the bot because talking with her is pointless. At the very end, she quickly gets me to the bot and presses a button to allow me to pay, and she does this very quickly and hangs up without any closing statements. Obviously, if I could get the bot instead of a customer service drone, I would have preferred to do that. She clearly hates her job and her life -- I wonder if the other customer service representatives are like that here? If you want to do your job properly, go through the script. And don't forget the "Have a nice day" at the end. It isn't that hard, and your job is going to be automated away if you're that poor at the one thing that separates you from a bot. read more

My daughter was killed in a car accident on Sept. 27, 2024 in Lancaster, and I live in Illinois and was told sheriff's dept was going to investigate as to the leading up of the accident. I called the dept. the other to get an update and the woman told me if I had so many questions that I need to fly out and ask in person, they don't have time to answer questions Really? We found their Norwalk office pretty helpful obtaining the background check needed for employment. An appointment was not required and the wait time wasn't bad. However, be prepared to pay in CASH or CHECK only. I'm not a person who carries cash nor antiquated checks. They will NOT accept DEBIT cards. Fortunately, there are banks nearby. read more

I received a $63 parking ticket while sitting in my car under the only shade tree on the block on a 100+ degree afternoon. There was a large Jeep parked in front of me when I pulled in. When the driver returned to his car and drove off I couldn't see the parking restriction sign due to low hanging tree branches. There were two other parking restriction signs way down at the other end of the street, but I never drove down that way and did not see them. The female "officer" saw me waiting in my car and wrote the ticket anyway. She claimed on the ticket that my VIN number was unreadable. That's crazy -- it's prominently displayed on the dashboard. She just didn't want to get out of her vehicle. She didn't want me to see her, which I didn't because I was going through my briefcase to prepare for a meeting. I heard her vehicle behind mine (both of my windows were down) but assumed it was someone parking. The next thing I knew she pulled up alongside my car and proudly chirped "I just wrote you a ticket." When I told my clients what happened, they revealed that this glorified meter maid is well known on their street. They said she once gave a ticket to a guy on crutches, even as he hobbled to his car to move it before the no-parking time restriction kicked in. By the way, thanks for the heads up, Jeep guy. I wondered why he looked over at me and laughed as he jumped in his own vehicle and pulled away. Hopefully she'll get him next time. I was considerate enough to warn two others who also parked on the wrong side of the street. Clues would be nice -- you know, like street sweepers. read more

In at least some Norwalk neighborhoods, parking restriction signs are only posted at the ends of the streets. I had never heard of that before and when visiting Norwalk recently, was given a ticket for a parking violation. When I parked, I knew to look in both directions and there was not a single "No Parking" sign in sight. Didn't stop the Norwalk police from ticketing me for a parking violation. It seems to me that, if they are going to use nontraditional methods of communicating parking restrictions, they need to give visitors to the community some slack. We are not mind readers. I appealed the ticket on these grounds and was denied. This either shows a lack of sensitivity to visitors or else these tickets are just a money grab. What they are doing is unethical. They either need to invest in parking signs like other communities or let first-time offenders who are non-residents off the hook. Doesn't make me feel very warm and fuzzy about Norwalk. read more

I love the Norwalk sheriffs department. They saved my life many times but especially one time when my boyfriend beat the crap out of me and they filed a three year restraining order against him. I never would have had the strength to do so had it not been for them. I kicked him out and now am several years later am happily engaged. Last I heard he was addicted to meth. I don't know. He probably would have killed me. He pulled a knife on me a couple of times. I escaped a ghost. By the grace of God. Thanks to the Norwalk police sheriffs. I owe my life literally to them. I am forever indebted. I love you all forever. You are all my heroes. read more

This is for an incident that happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I was leaving Malibu and driving through Calabasas late one evening. I am unfamiliar with that part of LA and admitted that I pulled over near Pepperdine back and forth a lane ONE TIME because I was confused and the directions my GPS had given me (there are 2 different right turns in this area that is hard to explain). 10 minutes later, 2 cop cars have me pull over in Calabasas. The male cop asks me where I was going, where I was, and if I had been drinking that night. I told him I had a glass of wine around 9 PM (it was now 1 AM and I am 100% honest with what I drank...). From that, he assumed I guess I was driving drunk! He looked into my eyes with a light, had to follow the tip of his pen with my eyes, and he asked for my license. As I got him my license he saw I had prescription medication in my purse and wanted to see the bottles so I gave them to him. He asked me if I was currently on either medication (antidepressants and anxiety medication). I explained that I haven't taken either medication in over a week (weened myself off the antidepressants, and the anxiety medication is just an as needed medication for panic attacks). He looked into my eyes again, told me they were dilated, and kept asking if I had more than 1 glass of wine and if I wanted to tell him again if I was taking any medication that evening (AGAIN NO AND I WOULD HAVE TAKEN A URINE AND BLOOD TEST IF ASKED!!). He had me step out of my car and I had to do the standard DUI tests. I had to walk back and forth heel to toe 9x, had to count to 30 staring up, with my eyes closed, touching my nose, some bullshit like that, and had to answer more questions. I should mention it was FREEZING that night, I was wearing a mini dress inside out (had a date that night and well....) and my hair and makeup was a mess (you figure out what I was doing on that date!). I have an anxiety disorder, was freezing, looked like I belonged on Jerry Springer, and beyond nervous due to this situation and I was thinking I would have to make a fricken phone call later that evening! Finally they gave me the breathalyzer which I felt they should have given me in the first place. Guess how I scored? 0.00%!!! Yup, passed with flying colors. I was standing outside in the cold, scared as hell for maybe 30 minutes. According to one of the officers, they got an anonymous call about me saying I was weaving in and out of lanes. This has to be related to what I mentioned earlier about the GPS, but that was the only time I did something like that. If you have ever driven on Malibu Canyon, you would know there is one lane going each direction and I never got out of my lane.... Maybe Mel Gibson knew I was in town and well, I am Jewish.... The male cop insisted that my car smelled of alcohol. There was no alcohol whatsoever in my car, and there is no way my breath could have smelled of alcohol from a glass of low alcohol Rose from hours earlier.... He stated that I technically could get in the future a DUI from ANY medication that says the standard warning of "not recommended to operate equipment" even if appear completely safe on the road! He also kept insisting that my eyes were dilated. They let me go finally and I had no ticket or anything. This was without a doubt one of the scariest, most random incidences of my life. UPDATE: 2 months later I went to my eye doctor just for a regular exam and told her about this. She stated more than likely the cop had to say that my car smelled of alcohol as probable cause. I later discussed with her that he stated my eyes were dilated. She stated again more than likely, they weren't and interestingly enough, if I was under the influence of my prescribed medications, my eyes would do the opposite of being dilated (whatever it is called). Fuck the police. Most of them truly are the dumb jocks from high school who never grew up, are bullies, and like the position of power. read more

I called the police and right off the bat I didn't care for thw operator's tone. What really pissed me off is that the cop didn't show up til THREE hours later!. They basically said that my phone being stolen was not as serious because people were getting stabbed that night. And NOTHING has been done about it!!! No callbacks, no nothing! As a homeowner, I have called them whenever I see suspicious activity on my street. Usually in these cases I give my name and cell, but do not desire contact. On occasions where I call them for something where a report may be generated, they always come to my door with an attitude like I am inconveniencing them, like I am some sorta bad guy and they look at me as such. Whatever happened to 'Afternoon Sir, did you call for service?' Funny thing is, as an ex-cop, I know what action should be taken. On 12/23/2016, I called 911 because a "legally" restrained person was attempting to get into my house thru the kitchen window. The dispatcher said he will send out a deputy right away. About 5 minutes later, 7 marked sheriff vehicles come rolling up to my house. The dispatcher said 1 deputy. When I explained to the lead deputy that this was my mentally ill son who needs hospitalization/treatment, as advised by their department, he proceeded to chastise me and threatened to arrest me becaise he somehow knew I was with my son just one day earlier when he was well and civil. When I explained to the deputy that I, the restrained person cannot be arrested per the court order he yelled and threatened even louder. I went inside to get my restraining order and showed him and his other loudmouth cop the language and proof at which time they yelled and said they could still arrest me. I put my wrists together in their faces and said "start arresting c*cksuckers!" I thought for a second I might be another Kelly Thomas-like victim but these badge-heavy dummies smartened up and left, without making a report I might add. All ten other deputies were standing around with their thumbs up their a$$es. This loud bald wank also yelled at me because They sent out all those deputies. (The 911 guy said 1 deputy and I was fine with that) I know those cops who patrol La Mirada don't have anything better to do anyhow but hassle jaywalkers. When I reported these gestapies to the watch commander he proceeded to tell me that his deputy Klaussen is a 20 year veteran who has given nothing but stellar service. Ya know, usual brass BS. When I filed a formal complaint to Internal Affairs, I got a dear John letter 30 days later with a paragraph stating "if deputy Klaussen was yelling at you, it was for your own safety". Tried to place an Animal Control complaint only to be put on hold for an hour! Once I was put off hold the problem wasn't even resolved and the officers did not bother coming out to assess the situation. Horrible read more

OK, let me just start by saying that this review dates back to about 1990 or so, so these officers may not even be here anymore, but let me be fair by saying that when I lived here I was an unruly teenager who hung around with gang bangers and getting in trouble was our job description and I frequented the Norwalk Municiple jail many times as a minor, usually for things that I did or it was simply Karma catching up to me for a slew of crimes that I was never caught for, but first I will start with a hilarious arrest for the soft top of a Suzuki Samari that took me a little longer to remove from the jeep than my drunk ass thought it would. So I get pulled over and they arrest me but they miss the jam packed hatchback loaded with stolen car stereos that we had been collecting for over a week, dandy police work guys! Then the story that steals the cake, I'm 16 or 17, it's Halloween, I get picked up by the police for fighting with 3 Vadio (Barrio) Norwalk guys from the One Way's with 2 of my friends that were also involved. They did not arrest us and the event took place away from the Manor but the management of this fine ghetto establishment decided that I was not allowed back in there but I wanted to see my girlfriend as any horny teenager would so I went to her house to see her. The manager illegaly had a bounty hunter who lived there come and arrest me, then hand me over to a rent-a-cop who we called Robocop. Well Mr. Robocop had no arrest powers, nor did bounty hunter and I had not committed any crime and the rent-a-cop car all state of the art as it was did not lock from inside so I made a break for it in my handcuffs when he stopped the car. Well the cops arrived at that moment and saw me running so they literally tried to run me down and hit me with their police cruiser. I barely dodged and one care ran into shrubberis, into house causing huge dent in their apartment stucco! I can't make s--t like this up. Then they got out of their cars, ran me down and about 5 or 6 cops beat me senselessly with flashlights, steel toed boots and night sticks, yeah they had those back then, in front of a crowd of about 40-50 onlookers that included parents and kids that were trick or treatting!!! Happy Halloween bitch, yours truly, LAPD!!!! Then, it gets better, they accidentaly put me in the big boys jail because my girlfriend's dad told them that I was an adult and they took his word for it rather than run my info!! ha ha ha Great detective work there fellas!! read more

It is not even worth the energy to complain about this useless law enforcement agency. 3 hour response or no response at all. Los Angeles county is now literally a lawless area do to the lack of ENFORCING the law from both LASD, LAPD, and CHP combined. The don't care about anything anymore. It is a real shame. Enough said. christmas time 2010 i was going through a real hard time. circumstance had it to where i moved in with my mother grandma and sister. Im on disability and being treated by telecare right next door and available on hot line. my sister is also disabled with tourettes and ocd. one day she got a wild hair and began pressing me to be commited. she started calling the sheriff. they didt come everyone in norwalk knows me. however on december 22 2010 she called 911 and ran ouside so i locked the door., and called 911 back while on the phone the sheriff surrounded the house at gun point and had my dad and mother talk on the mega phone for me to come and surrender like i was a mad man. they told my mother they would use deadly force. I went outside with my hands up as i walking they snuck up on me and tazered me they removed my boots and wallet put me in a ambulance and staped me 4 way they sent me to a small hospital restrapped me 4 way and collected my urine with the help from the doctor who handled my penis. they then sent me to alhambra psycward where i stayed 7 days and was discharged clean bill of health and ordered back to work with no boots or wallet, i was dropped off on the streets of norwalk and walked to whittier and slept on the streets untill i got my check and housed myself. When you take in a disabled person and accept his rent you dont play chess you call his doctor or nurse. well i had no drugs in my system a clean bill of health and a order to return to work why did the sheriff respond at gun point and cover it up with psyciatry the funny thing is the psyc ward charged medicare 23000 i never in my life spent more than 20.00 on narcotics at any given time. In other word they grossly overresponded to a call and were preparred to use lethal force at slightest wrong move i meta carpall tunnel syndrome from using a drill in construction. i could have been killed in front of my mother. I used speed because the traqulizers were very strong i never had more than 119 a month after paying rent the sheriff had lazer infared gun aim i had lazer aim at my head i n the house on the phone with dispatch. at worst it was dommestic violence call not hostage. my sisiter is the one who needs to go medication ssi and accept medicare. with her condition she has go nowhere jobs with no insurance. the sheriff obcource had no follow up no detective they just disappeared. read more
