I subscribed to the LA Times to keep local newspapers alive. This one deserves to die a slow painful death.It's an amateurish local news put on by high school students rag, so I cancelled my subscription online. Totally pathetic rag. it shows that even super intelligent people like Dr. Soon-Shiong can make atrocious investments. The newspaper contains old content and news, which you can get for free online. Takes the sports page for example, if you read the Sunday page, you'll read references to Friday games, and NOTHING about Saturday games. I live on Social Security and I am 84 years old. So they dropped me like a hot potato. Then they use your information, the SELL it to other companies with no shame. Shame on you LA Times. LA Times is a company that is no longer repairable. Nov. 30, 2025 I call to open my NEW Subscription which started on Dec. 2,2025. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First 2 different Reps had trouble processing the payment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I called my bank who said they could see 2 attempts made and put an Alert on the Account which they updated since I was calling to let them know that I was attempting to purchase a Subscription andtolet LATimes know to click the Alert to proceed. They also said it would be quicker for LA Times to Post the Refund than to File a Dispute. The next thing I know is that LA Times processed 2 Charges to my Bank account on Dec. 3,2025. So I thought I'd letLATimes Pistthe Refund. Well, what a mistake this has been . LA Times are crooks, they bill you twice and then play games to Refund you. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Their Billing Dept. have no clue what they are doing, and their CSRs don't either as you never get twice the same answer[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Ever since I've been trying to get my Refund, I've been told so many lies as to when the Refund would be placed on my Bank Account and as of this moment it still is notPosted to my Bank Account. Now I am told it will take another3-5 Business Days to appear. This is the 4th time I've been told this. It seems official with the totally off the wall opinion piece I received via email today - the paper has gone extreme right with the posting of this opinion. The article condemns Mitt Romney for calling for higher taxes on the wealthy. Yes, the upper 10% pay a big share of the tax money collected, but what the article leaves out is that the rich 'earn' that money mostly off of the little people, and the little people pay a big price for their small tax contribution by losing the funds to live a meager life versus the rich who will not notice the loss of tax money in their daily life. LA Times rips off long-standing customers. They were charging us $184 every 6 weeks i.e. over $30 per week for their much reduced in size paper. Meanwhile new customers can get a subscription for a fraction of the cost. So old customers are subsidizing the new. PLUS it is more like a tabloid now. Headlines are full of speculation and you don't get all the facts up front, if there are any at all. I should have cut them off long before this. read more

Los Angeles Times...Scammers of the Century. Have been getting the weekend paper for awhile at $4.50/wk via autopay at their request prepaid. Big shock when bank account didnt balance until we found total fraud. Los Angeles Times debits yor account prepaid weeks in advance. We call and tell them every single times and no papers are delivered until we return.They have missed 6 Saturdays for No Carrier. I Called ASAP and said why are their 3 $32 charges for papers on vacation hold for for 3-4 weeks at a time. Lady says Mister we only credit your account if the the vacation is 30 days or longer. In other words I was charged $96 for papers missed or for the 6-7 weeks the last few months on vacation. Total Ripoff I will be complainer further for never disclosing you have to pay for papers they never deliver. Do Not subscribe to this con newspaper. read more

Once again the Sunday Times was not delivered to my home. I pay to have it done so yet it seems that the delivery people they hire are incompetent. The Times claims it isn't their fault, it's a second party that delivers the paper. It is their problem, they pay them to do so. The Times ticked us off when they abbreviated the sports section. The paper is flimsy to say the least with often one or two-day old news coverage and too many columnists. Now they've outraged subscribers by skyrocketing rates for home delivery. We are long time subscribers so thought they might give us a break if we threatened to cancel (which we probably will now) but they NO, THEY COULDN'T AFFORD TO CHARGE LESS. To that I said do a better job and you will get more advertising don't take it out on your subscribers which are become fewer and fewer at least in my neighborhood. Bad karma LA Times. read more

I was getting fed up and finally asked for the supervisor. The person said there was no supervisor, but promptly took down my information and said that they would have someone respond to the double billing issue. I also sent an email to their customer service since I wasn't getting anywhere on the phone. Long story short, don't waste your time calling, the email customer service is SO much better. Save yourself the aggravation. They were professional and corrected the billing situation. I do like reading the LATimes so I gave them a 2nd chance and resubscribed. read more

My review for the Times is not about the paper nor a subscription problem. It is solely for the Globe Lobby--something I had missed seeing even though I stay just down the street from the Times Building. I went on a Saturday and the lobby is closed. This visit to LA, I made sure I went there Thursday. The Globe Lobby is a mini museum about the Los Angeles Times. There are busts of the publishers starting with General Otis and ending with the last Chandler to helm the newspaper. If you look at the photos, you see why it's called the Globe Lobby. There's much history packed into a small area. There are facsimiles of many front pages that were of important news events or extras put out by the Times for unusually newsworthy events. I enjoyed my visit here. I get the Times daily and there's nothing more that I look forward to than spreading the paper out on my dining room table and reading a great newspaper. I think I'm part of a dying breed, but I like to read Steve Lopez, Charles Fleming, Charles McNulty, et. al. with newsprint spread before me! Don't know if there are any e-subscribers to the L.A. Times, but today while checking credit card postings, I saw the Times was trying to charge my annual subscription -- which renews in 4 months! I called and the rep was mumbling something about "premium editions" which I never subscribed to nor received. They are reversing the charge. This is a blatant attempt to rip off subscribers who may not be as vigilant as I try to be, so if you subscribe, you may want to check your subscription bills. It is a shame that such an important news source for our city has the most shady business practices. read more

L.A. Times is the worst, used to enjoy their paper, so many things have changed. On top of that, i have an issue with crediting my bank account. Called three times, with them saying, yes, it shows you have been credited.... NO! High school kid showed up at door asking for donations, where I'll subscribe to 7 days of LA times. I checked, and it seemed correct that I would ONLY be signed up for a limited time. Lo and behold, 2 months later, they're still charging me, they don't deliver the newspaper which made me unaware of the fact that I was still being charged until I checked my statements. I am calling out this Agent "Anne," who I think I have spoken with before - she may be the only one that answers. I believe the L.A. Times subscription line is outsourced, and I do not think this agent is in Los Angeles or cares about L.A. customers (customers who have stood by and supported the L.A. Times in good times & bad). She has given me escalation #s and she says that the subscription will be cancelled. But the charge keeps appearing on the credit card statement and no refund has been issued. Most of their articles/news are editorials. The opinions of the "journalists" ooze through--sometimes it seems like they didn't even bother to try. They forgot real journalists provide the facts and allow the people to make their own interpretations. And provide balanced facts not facts based on their own biases. I have been getting this paper, daily and Sunday for years. But at present, I would give this paper a zero, and it's so-called customer service in the Philippines less than a zero if possible. I never got an email billing with the recent horrendous price increase of more than $300 for two months a few months ago. No surprise that they stopped billing with such a ridiculous price increase with a decrease in quality, but then got dunning calls from the Philippines about my subscription expiring. After discussing the matter recently with someone presumably in the Philippines with whom I had difficulty understanding and agreeing to a reduced rate, I never got a billing by email, though I was assured a new bill would appear with a reduced rate. Then, when I got yet another call telling me it was expiring I contacted the 213 number which turned out to be in the Philippines, no surprise. Not only were they not willing to comply with the reduced rate, they then upped it again. I have cancelled yet people in the Philippines seem to be placing more calls to warn of my subscription expiring. Obviously, the Philippines customer service center has no morals or regulation and when requested to transfer to someone in the US that can be properly understood or is to abide by US laws, they refuse. Although a thin paper with little news, they are now charging about 4$ retail for the daily. No one is going to pay this. As they have charged subscribers for the stupid premium in additional to the paper, and is just a magazine type advertisement for $5 in multiple issuances just to inflate the subscription for no value, I cannot imagine they will last. No one should subscribe to this worthless rag. I hope the owner loses a lot of money for his inept handling of what used to be decent paper, running it into the ground and firing many valuable reporters. The owner should stay in the medical field and not mess up useful journalism, even though he stupidly paid an inflated price. Now the consumers are severely damaged by his ineptitude. read more

I agree with the comments from other long time subscribers, and I also had to unsubscribe from the LA times. When I called, I expected them to ask why. However, I didn't expect them to be so pushy for me to reconsider, which felt worse than leaving any cable company. I hated their billing changes especially within the past year. You can only make online payments if you enroll in EZ Pay, which is for automated payments. The one-time payment option is no longer available. Before, I would pay one annual fee and that was it. Now they are shaking every last penny with their special charges. Supposedly, they changed to quarterly billing cycles, which they said they notified their customers. I never received that notification. If they changed their billing cycles, then why did I get another bill for an one-time annual subscription like to good ol' days? In addition, they billed for premium issues that I never requested for. As I attempted to cancel my subscription and I was up to date on all payments, they said I still had a balance for the premium issues. If I enrolled in their automated payment system, they would have charged me for more than expected with a headache included. They only provided me with cancellation number, but no written confirmation letter or email of the cancellation. I still received a bill, and the representative said I should disregard it. This was a messy break up, and I'm glad it's over. They still send me "We Miss You!" mail to convince me to re-subscribe. I'm not looking forward to anymore wasted paper and correspondence. In an age where print newspaper is dying, their new and sneaky billing practices will not help it stay alive. read more

The LA Times has been my newspaper for over 10 years mainly because of Sports and Calendar. It is way to liberal for me but I put up with it. Over the weekend I got my new bill. It went up to $135 from $98. When I called to ask why the first thing they did was say that they could lower it to $116 and then lower it to $100. Unbelievable. In essence they could have just raised the price $2 and I would have kept the subscription. But no they had to go for the jugular and try for money. Why not just raise $2 and avoid this bad review. Biggest joke on the planet. I have been a subscriber for over 40 years and I can't get my paper on time. I have called so many times it is crazy. They suck. Can't get my paper before 8 am or later when it is supposed to be delivered by 6 am weekdays. When I call their foreign phone bank, I get the same story over and over, we are working on it. It NEVER gets better and I have better things to do then call these idiots Over and over. Why cant they do their job??? It hurts to say I am giving up, but I vote with my pocket book. They are in a big hurry to overcharge and bill you, but for what??? They cannot do their job and it is an INSULT to make me continue to call and ask for my paper to be delivered on time! Terrible. Just terrible. The customer service is so poor. The reps have no idea what is going and can provide no information. They just repeat the same phrases over and over again like robots. No ability to answer the questions that I have. Delivery service is shockingly inconsistent. In my brief 8 month subscription to the Sunday paper, I have probably received the paper less than 50% of the time. And so, I must wade through the disgraceful mire of the LA Times customer service, which is really just an uninformed call center in India. I just don't understand. Terriable delivery service. Inconsistent on delivery time or if the paper will be delivered at all. Calling to speak to someone takes forever. I'm now on hold for fifteen minutes. Paper gets smaller and smaller by eliminating the news provided. Think they are trying to transition customers to the internet. read more
