As a resident of West Hollywood, I've read LA Weekly for decades. But 6 months ago, all of the places I would get it from every week, just stopped carrying it. I contacted them and was offered 3 other locations. But now, they've disappeared from those locations, as well. I've tried contacting them by phone and via their website. But repeatedly, no one answers the phone, and they repeatedly never respond to voicemail messages. They used to, but not anymore. I know they were sold again recently, so it's starting to appear that they (like other print publications) may have stopped their printed editions in favor of just being made available online. All said, they've always had GREAT content, but WHEN or IF you can pick up a copy locally anymore. And at least either answer your phone or respond to inquiries because we've started to lose interest. read more

LA Weekly, I truly expected you to be more in-line with other alternative newsweekly publications. Instead, you seem rather superficial, just like so much other fluff in this city of angles (yes, angles). My expectations for pseudo-investigative journalism and political pieces flanked by editorials filled with foaming-at-the-mouth liberalism were so high. The Austin Chronicle puts you to shame in these departments. I'll give credit where credit is due, though. Thank you for a rather thorough concert calendar. And thank you for being free and plentiful, as well, because you'll come in handy the next time I have to move and need to wrap my dishes again. read more

When I first moved here I LOVED the Weekly. I think I was just excited at the pure LA-ness of it all. Layaway plans for boob jobs? "Actress/model seeks benefactor"? Lipo, tattooing, and tanning all at once? And, being a New Yorker, "One bedroom apartment, $800". (OK, I moved to LA a while ago.) Now I am happy that someone takes a stab at some form of investigative journalism, because i'm sure our city gov't IS corrupt, but I don't need to read about it. I read the Economist and get freaked out by even bigger things. And I find the breast, benefactor, lipo, etc. ads a bit depressing. However, there is still Jonathan Gold. Our collective chowhound hat is off to you. read more

Their cover page stories don't always hit their mark - they get carried away at times with uncovering dirt on local politicians and I'm more inclined towards more objective journalism. Politicians/politics are corrupt, yes. Still, I consider the LA Weekly an indispensable part of L.A culture. The writers are smart, talented, and well-informed. Their film reviews trump the L.A. Times' by a wide margin. Their art/music listings are a bible on a Friday. And seriously, the eat + drink section is an absolute must; if you're hungry, the appetite builds up like David Hasselhof's gut after a drinking binge. LA Weekly took my money for a website never delivered, a logo also not delivered and SEO on my current website/business that produced zero results I need a refund from LA Weekly. I gave the benefit of the doubt a year later and several customer reps later this has been a huge disappointment! Not only did you take my money out of my account but I am out thousands of dollars. The LA Weekly has a lot of good content but I am in awe of Jonathan Gold. Even if I don't agree with all of his reviews, the guy knows how to flat out write. But the main reason why I appreciate Gold is because he values authentic Asian cuisine and spends so much time eating in the SGV, that we should raise a chicken foot in his honor. When he writes about Chinese food I sometimes wonder if the dude also had Chinese parents who whipped him on the legs with a two-dollar feather duster from 99 Ranch. There aren't too many white folks who understand the nuances of Chinese (and other ethnic) cuisine like he does. read more

I liked the occasional cover articles related to city history or services. I mostly read this online now. I used to pick up a copy whenever I saw it in front of a business and read it on the way home. I wish Jonathan Gold had articles more often but not so brief. The stories are great but not so political. This alternative weekly is a good print resource for local events. read more

All I know is I was looking for something like the Westword (Denver) and this looked like a match - "What to do in LA". Not so much...well sort of... So many cosmetic surgery ads, I actually closed the cover and looked again to make sure I had picked up the right periodical. Then I recognized familiar columns..."Ask A Mexican" is also a popular column in LA. Then there was a huge section on the hot, new, not to miss eateries in LA - BINGO! This was money. Not that I needed to find any more places to eat, but damn, I wanted to stay an extra week just to hit about 15 more places. On point for things to do, places to go, people to see. Publications like this get me excited to do nothing and sit at home and read about it. I'll peruse these pages for at least another week even though I'm back at home. read more

I find it 'sonly use is if it hates something I will probably love it and vise versa.

I love this publication. first off it's free. secondly, it covers topics that the regular papers won't. It's adult themed, featuring concerts, entertainment, bondage and other adult lifestyle ways. i.e. if you are looking for a good time... pick up a copy and see what's going on in L.A. read more

I usually make a point of picking up a copy, but one of the reasons for only 3 stars from me is that I've found it more and more difficult to find a copy when they come out. Whole Foods on Barrington & National used to have them, but they remodeled them right out of the store, much to my disappointment - one less reason for me to go to Whole Foods. There is a rack outside of Champagne across the street, but they usually only put a few copies in there and they're gone pretty quick, the Mar Vista library is hit and miss (sometimes they miss the drop completely). I called the office to see if they could help... no answer, there are no clues on their website where to find them, and a google search hasn't helped. I've always liked the entertainment, movie and music news and not so much the American Apparel and rapidly growing sex, plastic surgery and marijuana ads, but it's an even trade I guess. I just wish it were easier to find a copy. read more
