I have been to a few Big 5 Sporting Goods in the past. There is one literally 5 minutes away from…read moremy house and I do love that store a lot. After I had lunch with a friend of mine yesterday, I decided to stop by at this particular store in Van Nuys to check out the store, and if they had what I was looking for. Yes they did! I needed boxing gloves since I take a class, a women's sports bra in black, (was on clearance rack 50% off). Not too shabby. I also needed a folding chair that I can use to sit outside. I found the exact chair in the color that I was looking for. It was $15 NOT/including tax. It even has a cup holder which is a plus. I also needed a Foam Roller for my back. Got that too. Last, but not least, I needed 2 and half pound dumbbells. They had pink and black. I went with the pink color. That's all I needed from this store yesterday. Everything was nicely organized, got a very nice welcome from 2 of their employees, store was clean with decent sized parking lot, and they did have a bathroom. Love Big 5. They truly have anything & everything for all of your athletic needs. Go get what you need!!

Grateful for my local Big 5 Sporting Goods in Van Nuys!…read more Recently was knocking somethings off my "checklist"... Really just a I'm going on a retreat for a full week and need some update things including a queen size air mattress, tarp, miscellaneous items and compression socks (from my recent ankle tumble via tropical storm in SoCal with more to come on my trip lol finally 90% better... I digress). I received good customer service both on the floor and at checkout though super personable from the Big 5 Van Nuys crew floating about more so. My cashier was cool, but 100% ready to get off work... The vibe was there.... I feel you girl, that's why I'm on vacay... Take one too, they're good for you (reset)!! They have a huge selection of sporting goods, athletic wear, swim gear and items including cool pools, camping supplies, fishing as well as hunting equipment and much more. The quality of items is solid, though the small light I purchased with a clip was the one item that didn't pull through for me as it didn't work after adding batteries to it several times, I did have other lights I had purchased from this location previously in the past that do still hold up well. Some items are locked on display like the headlamps, but you can find someone easily to assist you. Everything I was looking for I found and/or was guided to where it would be in this staple location just above Van Nuys Blvd & Sherman Way. They have an easy entrance parking lot and even when a little busier seem to keep things flowing from start to finish... Making this B5SG clear, clean and under control... I'm not sure what the manager specific reviews are regarding, but everyone I interacted with was helpful.

Regardless of what shoe you want to try on, you're going to be ushered to a computer where they measure your feet and give you an analysis and then fit you for very expensive custom insoles, upwards of $100. They'll then recommend 4-5 different shoes based on this, and the price range will vary. If you had a shoe in mind that you wanted to try, they'll bring that as well, but they'll push the others. They'll put the custom insoles in everything as an upsell technique, so you'll have to take it out if you really want to try on the shoes without the expensive add on. The insoles were meh. Didn't do much for me. I asked for the shoe I came to try on and was satisfied with those and ready to check out until they said the sale price listed on the website with free in store pickup wasn't applicable to in-store purchase ($30 difference) unless I signed up for a membership which was a $20 trial for 6 months and somehow tied to those damn expensive insoles and custom socks that I also didn't want. So if I wanted the sale price, I'd have to spend $20 somehow and be tied to those insoles I said I didn't want to begin with? I dunno. I felt like I was drowning and somehow my $150 shoes were going to end up costing me $300. Stop trying to make everything a membership subscription. How many pairs of running shoes do you think I'm going to buy every 6 months? Craziness. I went home and ordered my shoes on Amazon for $140. I really tried to go in-store and support a business in my neighborhood but no thanks on all of that.

Then there was Korbi! She went ABOVE AND BEYOND. She helped me try on a wet suit that was way too small & helped me get it off & then came to find me in the other section and found literally the only wet suit pants that would work. SHE WAS AMAZING and made me feel so comfortable amidst my poor timing of coming at closing therefore chaotic. She was even supportive when I lost my phone. Then Savannah was my cashier and she was so helpful with everything I was carrying, patient with me, let me run back & get my phone made sure I got the 20% off and so much more. GREAT HUMANS!!!

The big flask i noticed with a hot water it becomes very heavy and with my Arthritis hand it was difficult to manage . the skillet i made omelette and after i tried to wash it but the food was stuck and i had to wash it 5 times and still looked dirty , i try to dry it with kitchen paper towel and it turned brown, i put it on my drying pad and stained it . so i decided to go back return the skillet and exchange the flask to a smaller version. The Manager came , unpleasant fellow try to convince me there was nothing wrong with the skillet , that i don't suppose to wash it ( Really so what you do , you cook on the top of the previous food , really !!) and only gave me store Credit , ignore that their skillet had ruined my drying pad ( i showed him my Drying pad with black lines left by this Skillet , and i washed it but the stain remained) , he did not exchange the Flask even dough it was still brand new . I made sure with the store credit he gave me , i get something very close to the number so i don't give them any profit . I will not put my foot in this store ever again or buy anything from them . Some Managers they think they are big shot and doing a big work for the store they work for but all they do is to loose clients . And by the way the only concern this manager had was to sell me $30 Membership, really !!!! You don't give my money back for the unworthy skillet , don't exchange the expensive flask to accommodate your client and you think i will spend $30 on your store , WOW !!!!!!!

With the store in my sites I pulled a hard right without rolling the SUV I was driving and parked... Amazing surf shop for goodie , surf boards and skateboards. Grabbed my Val Surf logo sweatshirt and a weird Nike shirt cause it was kick a$$ white with hot pink drawing... Now I explored and found great surf gear from major brands I won't mention but the shoe selection was amazing, especially the VANS. The suede leather Vans were awesome and I desperately wanted a few pairs but I didn't have room in luggage.... As I was walking past UGG's display they had the sand color version and again if I had room I'd bought a pair... Super cool " Dude " handling cashier duty's was awesome. The over the top skateboard decks blew me away located behind him and I only wish I was 12 again so I pester my parents for one... we had a good laugh about age and away I went... NOTE : Speaking of killer items and this wasn't for sale was wooden shoe by Vans with images of old school pro skaters including the "Godfather of pool skating" Mr Tony Alva! For those who don't know him well he was a member of the Zephyr Competition Skateboarding Team, or the Z-Boys.... Can't wait to come back and I'll have a bigger luggage bag for more gear. But needless to say this stop was amazing and worth the wait...
