One of 2 saloons here in Abiquiu. Lots of locals. Be careful, people drink too much here and lots of drunk drivers on the road.

We could not make a reservation, but figured we would try to get a table anyway, I'm glad we went. Great restaurant, very close to our hotel, the Hostess was amazing and made us feel welcome. Everything was great! Thanks to the staff, fast service, pleasant ambiance, great drink and great food!

Aaaaand you can go ahead and skip this place…read more 1st, I indicated that this meal was in celebration of my birthday and not a single comment about my celebration was made. Though I heard other peoples tables getting celebrated for various things. (A minor complaint compared to a poor meal, but worth noting.) 2nd, the food was truly mid at best. The presentation was lackluster and the flavors were on a whole bland and uninspired. Between my husband and I we ordered the Shrimp app (overcooked and rubbery butterfly shrimp), the pickles side (truly a bunch of random pickled items laid out on a plate with no thought to presentation, it was like my at home fridge clean out meals. Yall should look at the way Campo does their pickle jar.), the Santa Fe Spicy Hot chicken and waffles (zero spice. ZERO SPICE. Where is the hot sauce guys?!), the snapper with calabacitas (this is not an exaggeration, but it was TWO slices of zuchinni and the rest was over cooked chopped onion and hominy with zero color. And the rice was literally "Butter Rice". Are we serving sides for toddlers now? Where is the flavor? ), and the outrageously dry Kentucky Butter Cake. So dry I struggled to swallow it, and I am a dessert girl through and through, I'll basically eat anything with sugar, but this was so tough to stomach. In addition, our server was a new gal being trained and she was pretty inattentive. Late to take orders, and very late to give us our check after our sad bland meal with my husband desperately trying to make eye contact so we can get the heck out of here. My mocktail was the highlight of the meal, but I think it's easy to see that the rest was a bust. We ended up going to the Four Seasons bar for a second round of dessert because I was so disappointed in my nice birthday meal being a waste of money and the drive up from ABQ.

Don't know what happened but had a very unpleasant experience at The Artesian Restaurant…read more The food tasted great! From the poblano chile appetizer, the blue corn muffins, and my entree of the tilapia. I still wonder if it was worth the price, given how questionable the service was. I appreciated the server letting us know what ran out of the menu. However when our food came out, we were told by the server, "we ran out of rice and beans for the fajitas so here's sweet mashed potatoes." Then walked away. Never told beforehand of the rice and beans running out. Never given an alternative option of sides. I can assure you, the sweet potatoes did not pair well with the fajitas... And come closer to the meal ending, the server literally started picking up plates that still was in front of people with food on it. We weren't offered boxes, or asked if we were done. We were absolutely astonished about the lack of communication. In the end, we were given a refund for the fajitas...after WE addressed the issues of receiving food we did not order AND the food being taken away prematurely . It's like the self awareness of the mistakes or basic communication was not there tonight. Only thing saving these place from a one star rating was the taste of the food and they actually gave us a refund. I will probably not go here again.

Yelp says 5 stars = "Woohoo! "As good as it gets!" and that is true for Chili Rojo Tavern…read more.. because, in Chimayo, this is *all* you get! And, it is GOOD. Well, good if you enjoy dive bars. And who in their right mind doesn't?! First off, you will probably be greeted by the owner tending his bar -- Wilford Ortiz, an old Army vet with centuries-old roots in New Mexico. Wilford grew up in the Chimayo area and after serving in the military at Ft Bliss in El Paso, he bought the bar (I think from his father) and has made it a local "institution." Be prepared -- he will greet you with a big smile and what a smile it is!! He is quite a charming chap, and I think when he was younger, he may have had a talent for opening bottles with his bare teeth! It's a must-see. Hey -- You're traveling the backroads of NM... you're staying in Santa Fe, drive north to hit lunch at the Chimayo restaurant with all the tourists... you owe it to yourself (and definitely to Wilford, who's tryin' to run a business in this sleepy little town!) to visit Chili Rojo Tavern. Just a little further north of the restaurant, and then west on 76. He might charge you $2.50 for a can of Bud Light, the wood floor may be sagging a foot into the crawlspace below, but it will be the best roadside bar you visited in Northern NM... because frankly, I couldn't find any others. And, this is as "backroads" as it gets! This place made memories for us, and they are good ones. SALUD!

This dimly lit place is cozy and yet so modern feel, however, not pretentious and not overly priced. And it comes out with hot melted cheese for dipping! There's also a good sz charcuterie board not overly priced either. The establishment keeps it interesting by introducing new concoctions of drinks as to pertaining to the season. A wonderful and relaxing place to come back and try more drinks. Ahh!
