Wish I could say things have improved but the coarse, generally pissed-to-be-there, attitude of the young lady with long brown pony tail Sat morning at 9:00am, could not have been worse. Quite the way to end our annual trip for our last morning. It's enough to change venues next year. We stood at the host stand for 10 mins with nobody in sight. Don't know what happened but had a very unpleasant experience at The Artesian Restaurant. The food tasted great! From the poblano chile appetizer, the blue corn muffins, and my entree of the tilapia. I still wonder if it was worth the price, given how questionable the service was. I appreciated the server letting us know what ran out of the menu. However when our food came out, we were told by the server, "we ran out of rice and beans for the fajitas so here's sweet mashed potatoes." Then walked away. Never told beforehand of the rice and beans running out. Never given an alternative option of sides. I can assure you, the sweet potatoes did not pair well with the fajitas... And come closer to the meal ending, the server literally started picking up plates that still was in front of people with food on it. We weren't offered boxes, or asked if we were done. We were absolutely astonished about the lack of communication. In the end, we were given a refund for the fajitas...after WE addressed the issues of receiving food we did not order AND the food being taken away prematurely . It's like the self awareness of the mistakes or basic communication was not there tonight. Only thing saving these place from a one star rating was the taste of the food and they actually gave us a refund. I will probably not go here again. read more

As a "captive audience" at the only food option at Ojo Calente, of course I suggest eating here. Food is good but pricey. It's a classy place, but you can dine in your spa robe for breakfast and lunch. For dinner, gotta wear your real clothes. Reservations are required but easy to get, and you can also order from the wine bar menu and/or get takeout. Generally a very accommodating place for people who come to unwind. read more

This is the restaurant that is attached with Ojo Caliente Spa Resort. We came here after soaking for a few hours for lunch. It's very rustic and quaint. Prices weren't as ludicrous as we were envisioning. I ended up getting a local cider that tasted like a watermelon jolly rancher. Being a little bit tired out of Mexican food I went with the Turkey Wrap. Which came with applewood smoked bacon, ham, greens, asadero cheese, tomatoes, and a chipotle aioli along with a side of what I opted for of sweet potato fries. The aioli on the side as a dipping sauce was also delightful. It was a really refreshing and delicious fresh, tasty lunch. I'm pretty sure they use only local and organic fresh ingredients in their menu. Since I had been to their brother/sister restaurant at the Santa Fe, Ojo location a few years ago. It was definitely worth the splurge. They have some great local beer and wine worth checking out as well. read more

Yuck.... For a restaurant that has a captive audience, it's pretty insulting for what they have to offer. We started off with no liquor license, but I can still do beer or wine... Until you look at the bar and see how unorganized, dirty and unprofessional it was. Sheesh! Just clean up the place! We moved into the appetizer, which was a greasy artichoke burned on the grill. The aioli whip that accompanied it was disgusting. It was a lazy try and made an elegant vegetable inedible. Next the salad - yuck... I thought it would be impossible to destroy a salad, but the sweet dressing destroyed all hints of a farm-fresh treat. Ahhh.... Dinner! A limp select grade filet that was drowning in Heinz 57. The vegetables don't make up for the steak that lacked form, taste and quality. It was the absolute cheapest cut I have ever had - I would not serve that to my dog ( and she eats anything). So... bad food? How was the service? I can't really tell - our server was non-existent. We sat and waited each time something was supposed to be out, yet he was nowhere to be found. The next morning I was hoping breakfast would be better. We ordered dishes with chile - a delicious staple of NM, right? WRONG! The wonderful chile was destroyed with way too much cumin. I mean, why? Why would you destroy something as wonderful as NM green chile with a pound of cumin? The poor chile was literally overdosing on the cumin and my guy was next.... It's such a shame that this is the only place to have a meal while in the "resort". Next time, I will pack my own or drive into Espanola for a mediocre meal. read more

The restaurant was great.. not sure why some people didn't think it was. Had lunch and dinner here - staff was always friendly too! Things tried: - blue corn muffins: these complimentary bite size muffins are so yummy! I wish I had more! - Chile relleno: loved the farm to table vibe of this dish! I do wish there was a bit more cheese, but really like the assortment of veggies that accompanied the dish. - poblano fries: this comes with a vinegar based dip that takes some getting used to, but was really good! Perfect dish to share. - tortilla soup: soup was nice and thick and full of flavor. Highly recommend this dish. - chicken mole: so this dish is ginormous. Literally enough to feed 2-3 people. Flavors were good, just the portion was a bit overwhelming. All in all it's a great restaurant option for anyone with a day pass or staying at Ojo Caliente. After soaking in the pools we had a very filling lunch. The dining areas were busy on a weekday which was a solid sign. The staff were attentive, especially Ivan our waiter. The meals were as expected. Try the poblano fries! The dipping sauce was the high point for me. read more

Juneteenth. Monday, June 19, 2023. Visited here with my wife for lunch. We were taking a break from the nearby hotsprings. The hostess seated us within ten minutes. She sat people, brought them menus, and even refilled water. I told her she needed a raise. We watched as customers seated after us received their orders before us. It took twenty minutes for our order to come. I ordered a cup ($6) of the Tortilla soup. This came with multi-colored tortilla strips and a thick, flavorful broth. Quite hearty. See attached photo. My main dish was the grilled baby gem salad ($14). This featured baby romaine hearts, fried kale, shaved manchego cheese, and lemon-oregano vinaigrette. I paired this with sesame crusted ahi tuna ($8). The tuna had been cooked to perfection and the light texture melted in my mouth. The cheese cubes perfectly complemented the fried kale. A nice light dish after the heavy tortilla soup. This restaurant serves good food, but I wish the service had been faster. Giving three stars because of the lackluster service. read more

I had a lovely meal by myself last night, which included delicious short ribs, great service, and a giant piece of chocolate cake. Dinner is as pricey as it would be anywhere these days. If I were staying longer, I would explore their big salad menu with protein add-on options, because the servings overall are quite big. That would probably be a really easy way to get a delicious dinner for a bargain. Highly recommend, but make sure you make dinner reservations ahead of time, as suggested. read more

I don't like to be harsh but this was one of the worst meals. To give credit, they did bring out a blue cornmeal muffin bread basket that was very delicious. First we started with the bruschetta which was on untoasted tasteless bread, with no oil and no texture. It was unpleasant to eat. I thought they may have forgotten to toast the bread because they were busy that night. We ate it anyway. Then we got the beet salad. The beets were chopped very small which is unusual for beet salad, and also irregularly chopped. The beets tasted canned. There were also pieces of walnuts in the salad. The walnuts were not toasted or seasoned in any way. It was a complete lack of effort salad. The finale was the Pasta Pomodoro. This spaghetti dish came with a scoop of butter on top. Just a big ole scoop of room temperature butter like a scoop of crisco. I'd never seen that before. The actual pasta was almost uncooked, with what seemed like canned tomatoes. No flavor no flair. My guy said "it's like a three year old made this" We had a hard time eating the food. There is no other restaurant on the premises but we have avoided it for the rest of our stay. Maybe they have a captive audience so they don't need to try very hard. I'm sorry this is a harsh review. We were disappointed. We expected more effort and skill with regards to the food. read more

The restaurant is convenient when you're Ojo and get hungry and you can wear your robe unless it's dinner. I enjoyed sitting by the window, watching the snow. The service was mediocre - even though there were few full tables initially, it took a long time for the server to come over and he rarely came by throughout the time I was there. We stayed at the resort 3 nights and ate at the Artesian every meal. All delicious, served well, friendly staff, pleasant room. Our dinner server was usually Zack, super great. 3 nights in a deluxe room (not in the hotel) with our own kiva fireplace, unlimited soaking in all the pools, an hour of private pool with a roaring kiva, and 16 lovely meals with drinks and desserts (8 meals for 2 people) and we spent well under $2K.I don't understand the reviewers who complain about restaurant prices! Reasonable even if it was not at a resort! The blue corn muffins are complementary with dinner. Gluten free, tender with a faint, pleasant sandiness in the chew. If the restaurant is willing to share the recipe, I would love to have it. The dining room is restored from the original 1916 building with burnished plaster walls and what appears to be original woodwork. The coffered ceiling is probably not original. One negative comment: the dining room (and the whole resort, actually) is hung with paintings by J Bowie Scott, which are perfectly appropriate in the setting. However, the dining room paintings need cleaning. The glass on several of them is spattered with food! Kinda gross, not to mention disrespectful to the artist! read more

Horrible service. Very unorganized. Waited 30 minutes to be seated. Others who came after us were seated first. 18 people came after us, and every single one of them received their food before us, despite being the first ones here. it's been 50 minutes and none of our foods have came out. Lady with dreads behind the bar has to be one of the rudest customer service folks I've ever encountered. We were told 20 minute wait for to go order. Over an hour with no food. This review is ONLY for the Artesian Restaurant, as it's the reservation made through Open Table. We chose the night's specials. The truffle cream linguine was fantastic, filled with wild mushrooms and greens. The chicken I requested on it was tasteless and dry. My husband's medium rare ribeye special came out medium and tougher than typical for the cut. Disappointing considering the plates came at a premium higher than most of the on-menu choices. Service was slow and we had to flag him down to take our second drink orders, water refills, and the check. Breakfast the next morning was phenomenal. The blue corn pancakes were soft and packed with pine nuts. The avocado toast was divinely fresh and worth raving over. Service again left much to be desired. You would have thought paying cash was the biggest inconvenience on the planet (and everything took forever). Prices weren't horrific considering it's the only place to eat in the area, and the food was overall good enough to ease the sting. The lunch menu looked amazing. The wine bar has additional options, but the drinks are overpriced for the serving size and the sangria was meh. Overall, I'd go back if staying at the resort again (which we plan to), but now we know to charge the room for meals and expect long wait for okay service read more

I had high hopes, but it was just okay. We tried multiple items over our 3 day stay, and I wish I had better news. Drinks - Sake mojito: I don't know what I expected, but this was too sweet for me, not very cold, and just not the best flavor. Wine: I had a red wine that was good. It was reasonably priced, and was tasty. Food - Flatbread pizza: 3/4 of the pizza was cooked well, but 1/4 of it was fairly raw. I'm not sure what was happening, but the dough wasn't fully cooked on a couple of slices. I would give this 1 of 5 stars. Poblano fries: these were great! I loved crispy battered poblano and the sweet sour sauce that they were served with. The sauce was reminiscent of Vietnamese nuoc cham. I would give this 5 of 5 stars. Sea scallops: the scallops were served with a red Chile pesto and a regular pesto (see the picture for reference), some veg, and risotto cakes. This meal could have been 5 of 5, but unfortunately the whole meal just couldn't come together. The scallops didn't have very much seasoning and were a teeny tiny overcooked. The risotto cakes could have been epic, but they were still a bit cold in the center (like they were frozen and didn't finish getting warm enough in the deep fryer or something). The veg was good. My husband ordered the filet mignon. The actual filet was FANTASTIC. Cooked to perfection. The potatoes it was served with were bland, and about 1/3 of them were burnt. Not a nice char, I'm talking a crunchy burnt layer of potato that leaves the whole bite tasting burnt. The broccoli I was fine if a tiny bit bland. read more

I am giving this restaurant five stars, but only on the food. We spent two incredible nights at the Ojo Caliente Spa and ate at this restaurant 4 times. The meals, for the most part, were spectacular. The only bad dish was the Huevos Rancheros for breakfast. The eggs were TINY, and, um, where in the hell were the beans? Everything else, food wise, was really yummy. First night: We shared the Ceviche, and roasted vegetable chile relleno. EXCELLENT. Second night: Shared Beet salad, chicken/steak fajitas, and wild Scottish salmon. EXCELLENT Breakfast on last day: Huevos Rancheros and Chile Relleno. As I stated above, on the Rancheros, where were the beans? Lunch on last day: Poblano Fries and Ojo Fish Tacos. Amazing. And put some Poblano fries ON the fish tacos! That being said, the service was hit or miss. I know it has to do with staffing issues, but when you are paying a premium price for a suite, you simply expect better service. Will we come back? Yep. Love love love their blue cornbread muffins. Im very picky about my cornbread and was pleasantly surprised by these little muffs. For an appetizer try their poblano pepper skins. They're unique and a light way to get your meal started. Drink selection left a bit to be desired but they do have some local favorite brews and decent margaritas. No dessert menu either, Blerg. Like most resort restaurants they're sort of an over priced tourist trap. Reservations are required for dinner and service is slow. This lovely restaurant is located on the same property as the resort, so it is very convenient and there is plenty of free parking. I was with two others, and we had easy seating even right at lunchtime. The atmosphere is very relaxed as many guest who are staying over are in bathing suits with bathrobes over. The service was fast and the food was very good which we expected seeing the level of class that the resort has. A spinach salad with beets and feta cheese with candied pecans, a vegetarian roll with fries and cheese enchiladas with green chili were large portioned but not overly so. I had a latte that was as good as any espresso cafe. So all in all, it was a nice place to find after soaking all morning, didn't have to get in our car and the whole experience was lovely. read more

Spent a lovely morning at Ojo Caliente swimming in one of the private thermal hot springs. We were booked close to lunchtime, and by the time our hour was up, we were famished. Conveniently, the Artesian on property had a table available. It was a nice little restaurant. Nothing too fancy. We started off with their guacamole and salsa with chips. This was fine. The guac was pretty good; salsa was fine but not my favorite flavor. Tasted more "roasted" maybe? For entrees, my husband opted for the Ojo fish tacos. The fish was fresh, a little spicy but in a good way. It was served with mango salsa on top, which was nice. I had the Ojo Turkey club, which was a HUGE sandwich! It had a third piece of bread in the middle that wasn't necessary. But the flavor of the sandwich was very good. The green chile was a great addition. It wasn't spicy, just added some extra flavor. The fries were shoestring style, and while not my favorite, they were still pretty tasty. Overall, a decent experience. Food was A-OK, and the convenience couldn't be beat. I probably wouldn't eat there again, but search for something else if I ever visit Ojo Caliente in the future. The Artesian is more of a "been there done that" thing for me. read more

The place is clean, the food is tasty. Ut Inwould like to see more selections. It is a little on the pricey side but convenient. I enjoyed my lunch and the staff was pleasant. Mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand, it's part of Ojo Caliente hot springs / resort. Anything related to hot springs is automatically extra awesome. That said, it was some of the most comically absent-minded and slow service that I have ever received. The server wasn't doing it on purpose, but she kept forgetting everything... up to and including even checking up on me. It took *forever* to even flag her down and ask for the check. At least 15 min long after the meal was done for her to swing by. This shouldn't matter, except that I had ordered a private soak and was on the clock to get in and out of this place... in an hour and a half. As it stands, I barely made it there in time. It took 1h20m to make it through the meal - as quickly as I was able to manage it. Minus one point for inattentive / poor service. The food was decent, though I felt the price was disproportionate to the quality. It wasn't bad, but when I'm charged more per plate I expect a higher caliber of food flavor, quality, and preparation. I didn't feel that was there. Minus one point. The atmosphere is very nice inside. It's also extremely clean. They display art on the walls. I noticed that at least in our area all of the art was from a single artist - as opposed to displaying the work of multiple artists. Still cool, but I hope they regularly rotate what is on display / for sale art-wise. I definitely would return the next time I visit Ojo Caliente, as I believe there aren't any other options there. read more
