Dinner tonight wasn't up to their normal standards. The rice was bland this time but the beans were better than usual. I had Tamales that were too much dough and too little meat. The salsa had far too much tomato and not enough spice. The margarita was weak and fairly small. The place was packed, so they are doing good business. The limited outdoor seating was very nice on a rare late April warm evening. Our service was exceptionally slow, noticeably slow, but the fact that they were so busy and that I was sitting outside made it more acceptable. read more

So I don't think there are that many good mexican restaurants in this area. You basically have to leave this town to find one. However, this place has my favorite dish at a mexican restaurant that I have ever been to. Chori Pollo. Really good. This place gets 3 stars because the service could have been better. The last time I was there it was pretty cold too. I hate wearing a jacket for dinner. However, the drinks are good, and I honestly have never tried anything else on the menu besides the Chori Pollo for dinner. When you get chips as an appetizer, make sure you ask for some queso, its extra but it's better than the salsa and taste really good. read more

A bit soggy (and that goes for the fries too). Decent amount of food for the price. Definitely better Mexican food places in the area. Best Mexican food that I have had in Youngstown yet. It was biker's night tonight so there was a live band and quite a few bikes parked in the parking lot. The environment felt really lively. The restaurant is nicely decorated. If the ceviche appetizer didn't come after our meal, I would have given this place five stars. The Valaria's Special was really nicely done. I guess you can't really go wrong with rib steak with bacon and cheese. The ceviche, though late, was very flavorful and has a nice strong lime-taste. This is the only place that I know that served ceviche with saltine crackers and give you a huge portion. Out of all the places that I visited here, I would say this place ranks on the top 5. read more

First off - please try ElVallarta in Poland. It's thee complete opposite of this place!! Waitress at the bar took 15 mins to even ask what we would like for a late dinner. There were only 5 customers at the bar. She then kept getting confused - you could see it in her eyes - other servers were zipping by her. She was a very pretty girl but no sense of urgency - or sense. I'm just not sure what her problem was. We waited and waited for our drinks. When we finally got the pitcher of margaritas, it was literally like drinking lime cool aide. I am a "light weight" so to speak....so I'm telling you this because we actually had to PAY for 2 more tequila shots to add to our pitcher. We didn't want to come here in the first place but we're meeting friends that just had to go there. The time prior, I ordered chili rellenos and they tasted of mold!! Like moldy bread! I have no idea what that meant. So on this evening, our meal came quickly and tasted good - so this rating wasn't bad as far as food this time. But guess what - no silverware for 10 minutes. TEN MINUTES! We made eye contact with the older female manager hanging out with her family at the end of the bar....we tried to get a waitress. Not one person would make eye contact when we'd hold up our hand to ask for silverware. I finally yelled across the bar "Can we please have silverware so we can eat?!!" Not one person responded. It was soooooooo weird. It was rude. I felt like we were in a vortex or something. Never. Ever. Ever. Again. Please try ElVallarta in the Boardman Poland area. Absolutely excellent. Never ever a bad meal. Friendly waitresses and waiters. Their pitchers are actually REAL margaritas not from the green mix crap. It is a sensational Mexican restaurant and no more expensive. First of all guys, fix your bar. It is too tall (or the seats are too short). I'm 6 foot tall, and it is uncomfortable for me. Then there's like a 7-inch curved barrier at the front of it, preventing you from reaching your food/drink or comfortably resting your arms. It's really awkward. Aside from that, the food is mediocre every time I've been here. Not inedible or anything, but not great either. Service is fine - I order food, they bring me what I order. I didn't notice the weird Republican propaganda posters anymore, so maybe they took those down or hid them. I used to love this place. We stopped for lunch. Both orders were supposed to have verde sauce on the burritos. Neither did. Waitress brought the sauce separately i bowls with no spoons, then charged for it. We both ordered sides of guacamole. She charged for the Guacomole appetizers instead of the side. Everything was cold. I understand the accommodations due to covid-19, but since they can't give salt shakers, they should have packets. And you can't cut steak strips with a plastic knife. Went in for dinner and was greeted and sat quickly. A gentleman brought us chips and salsa soon after we were seated. Then we waited for about 15 minutes for a server. If I would have wrote this review a couple of years ago Los Gallos would have got 5 stars ... regrettably this isn't the case any more. The more locations they open the worse the 1st location gets. Food is never consistent anymore and management could care less about customer service. For example, the last time I went there I ordered fajitas; they came to the table not sizzling and the portion was very small. I asked our waitress (who isn't even ethnic anymore) and she seemed unresponsive. I asked for a manager and told him my concern; his response was that they could heat it back up for me ... I've been around the block a few times - no way am I sending my food back and eating it when it comes back from the kitchen ... ESPECIALLY when management doesn't seem to care. I hope that things turn around for Los Gallos; unfortunately I don't really see this happening. Why have consistent service and food when you can open a bunch of locations and make money off of sub-par service and food? read more

This is one of my favorites. Great staff and fantastic food. I go here at least a few times a month. Good atmosphere and super clean. Free nachos are delivered to every table. I get the crunchy shrimp tacos or the Fajitas Texanas. My husband and daughter love their food as well! The ONLY drawback is you might be too full to enjoy their amazing fried ice cream or churros for dessert! read more

We were impressed with the atmosphere of the place. The bar area is very nice too. However....after going to wash my hands and experiencing the women's bathroom, I almost left!! Toilet wouldn't flush. Seriously? THEN....no soap in the dispenser, OR in the opened and empty plastic bottle of soap laying on the sink. Disgusting. This was the day after Black Friday when you know restaurants will be packed. Shouldn't this kind of thing be addressed?? Luckily I had hand sanitizer in my purse. On to the food. I agree with a previous reviewer on the chips. Very bland. Salsa was just ok. I ordered the fried Burrito Frito which was really good. The white cheese sauce is awesome. Wow if I could give a negative rating I would for this place. Service by far the worst I have experienced since I don't now when. Like he had to be reminded to bring our waters and then we had to hunt him down to place our order. When the food came which was served by a nice lady, he eventually came by to check but he didn't even stop he just kept on walking. Guess we had to swallow quick if we wanted to answer him. If my 80+ Mom didn't want to go to this place I would never come back. Well actually I won't be back. When I drop 80 bucks at a restaurant especially Mexican I at least should have good service. Every meal I've ever had here was wonderful. I usually get the chicken fajitas dinner and it's always fresh, hot and tastes fantastic. I've also had nachos and they were tremendous! It's always incredibly clean and the staff is always so sweet and gracious to me every time I'm there. Sometimes it may take a few minutes to wait on me but I remember what it used to be like to be a server, you're busy. It's not the server's fault there's a ton of customers, or that someone may have called off...stuff happens. If waiting an extra moment for my drink is the worst thing that happens to me that day...then I'm okay with that! People really need to lighten up. Foods good, people nice. read more

I first visited Los Gallos in 2010 and I liked it a lot then (4 stars, say). I've been there about 2 times per year since. But after recent visits I would downgrade it to 2 stars. (For calibration, I'd give most chain restaurants one star.) One of my complaints is that the servings at Los Gallos are ridiculously large. I ordered a vegetarian fajita plate on Saturday but it was so huge that I ate only about 1/3 of it, even though I was quite hungry after a long bicycle ride, and took the rest home. Since then, I've gotten an additional dinner and a lunch out of the leftovers, and I still have another meal I could get out of it. When I buy dinner, I'd prefer to be buying one meal, not four meals! If I want leftovers, let me buy an extra dish. On top of that, the food was ho-hum; nothing spectacular. This used to be a favorite frequent family gathering place. When I say family I mean 10-15 people at a time. Not to mention we all go frequently separately. We all decided to go on Veterans Day and were refused to be seated or put on a wait list. When calling to see about being seated the boy the phone said they were completely booked up and that no wait list was available and if we were to come there we'd be waiting for a long time. The boy continued give my husband attitude as he questioned the non ability to be able to wait for a table. Never having an issue with this establishment before my husband was trying to understand this and the guy hung up on my husband. We had dinner here and ordered the fajitas for 2. They were supposed to be combined with shrimp, chicken and steak. They were served with all 3 and pork. Ironically, the pork was the best but the chicken was very skimpy. I had a regular size margarita with Jose Cuervo. It was not a large or a jumbo. It was a regular margarita. After the band started playing, they served them in regular plastic cups. We cashed out with a bill of $100!!!!! The margaritas with "top shelf" alcohol (which really is only one step above their nasty plain tequila) is the reason why our drinks were $13.50 a piece!!! That's BS for the size of margarita and not even the best of the tequila. Truly a rip off and we will never be back!!! read more

Best Mexican, I don't eat it anywhere else if I can help it! Very glad they opened up closer to home, almost as good as the original location in Boardman. Will be sure to bring corn tortillas instead of flour for the sensitivities. They've changed the menu, we used to order the Youngstown Special, although it it's not on the menu they will offer at a higher price. Horrible service today. Came to have one of their lunch deals for 4.99. The waitress that I had took my drink order and she just assumed I wasn't ready to order because I was waiting for my friend. I had to call another server to get my order in because I was waiting for a while. The people in the table in front of me came after me and got their lunch order in before me and got the deal. I ordered a few mins later because I had to find my server and she said the deal no longer applies because I was ordering after 3pm. I wouldn't have ordered after three if she wasn't missing. I didn't order anything and I got a really bitchy attitude from her. Then she had the nerve to talk bad about me to another waitress right in front of me.
