    Steak fajita quesadilla
    Anna D.

This is my go to place for Mexican! Dined her with a group of 12 and called ahead. They had a table set up for us. The food is great, staff are friendly and efficient. This is the best salsa around!! I had fajita quesadilla.

Carlos Montez Mexican Restaurant and Cantina - Look at the top of the beans. Did they plate all the beans and rice in the morning before the day started? This is horrible. Not fresh.

I got the Sante fe Chicken Dinner and that cheese sauce... what is it? it's definitely not cheese. I couldn't eat it. the rice and beans on my plate were hours old like what came with the fajitas. the kids barely ate the fajitas and my kids like food. they usually demolish fajitas... so our family of 6 all decided this was a horrible experience and we will not be returning. to top it off, we had an $87 bill for the horrible food.

However the food since the last time we were there has turned to total garbage. My wife's chimichanga came out so burnt that you couldn't even cut it with a knife, there was Styrofoam on my rice, which seems to have been cooked probably yesterday or the day before. When we told the waitress about the food the manager didn't even come over to talk to us about it. The place is going to crap we won't be back. BTW, we are locals, we are who keep your bar open with pool leagues, and your restaurant open when The lake people are gone.

You will see it on your right as you come in to town from Pryor. The food is fabulous and the service matches. The restaurant has a large menu, of Mexican food, but also offers pizza, burgers and a full bar. Food and beverages to please everyone. The perfect place to stop, coming or going to the lake. I didn't expect to find this quality of food and service in small town Salina. Kaitlyn delivered chips and salsa. I asked if there was a spicy salsa and she started naming everything they had. I asked for a small sample of everything. That is what I got. They have a great variety. All were very good; the hotter versions were my favorite. Check the picture. My wife and I both got the Combo Dinner: Beef Taco, Beef Enchilada, Pork Tamale, Beans and Rice. As a sauce option for the tamale Los Cocos has an excellent authentic red sauce. A true flavorful red chili mole. It is delicious and perfect on the tamale. Well-seasoned ground beef filled the enchilada and the crispy taco. Tasty beans and rice on the side. Los Cocos was a surprise that exceeded expectations!

I hit the door right at 11:45 and was promptly seated, swapping a menu, chips and salsa for a drink order and a small queso. The menu is reasonably large, but not overly so. Plenty of options to choose from for almost anyone. I'd already seen they had Chile Verde on the menu, so I zeroed in on that like a fat dog on a chicken leg. Almost immediately, the queso hit the table. The salsa was out of this world good. I seriously almost ordered a pint to go, it was so good. Not hot at all, but rich with tomato flavors and subtle heat and spices. The queso was thin, and stayed workable throughout the meal, which is a huge plus for me. Flavorwise, it was slightly rich, very Monetery Jack flavored with noticeable hints of jalapeno. Great queso. My entree hit the table quickly, while I was still face deep in queso and chips. Beatifully plated, I hoped the taste lived up to the appearance.... and it did. While it was all good, surprisingly the rice turned out to be the unexpected star. It takes effort to make a simple rice dish standout like this. Light and fluffy, the flavor was borderline intense, for rice. It had a hearty undertone that I couldn't place, but I loved it. A lot. Nothing but rice... no corn, no peas, no nonsense, no kidding. The Chile Verde was outstanding. Probably one of the top three I've had in the area. Not sure if they slow cooked the pork with the sauce like is proper, but if I can't tell, then I'm not gonna care. The meat was properly shredded, tender and moist, and full of both meaty and saucy flavor. The beans were also really well done. Well colored (not gray), and with some noticable flavoring in the chile powder spectrum, I dipped chips into them until they were gone. Overall, nothing about my experience was less than great. My server was amenable enough, but didn't really engage in any interaction. No issues there, just a difference in styles, that didn't detract at all. With the queso and an iced tea, the bill was just over $22, and for what I got, I came away quite satisfied.
