Meh. The higher rating must be due to the lack of competition as clearly it's not the food. We thought we would try this place given the good ratings and drive 25 minutes to get there. It wasn't worth the drive as the chips to start were old and stale and the salsa was flavorless (had to add salt and hot sauce to make it palatable). They didn't mention they were out of the item I wanted which should have been a red flag as the replacement was not that good and also was lacking flavor for Mexican food. The worst fed chimi looked good and she said it was. The beers were cold and service was average. Based on the food, we wouldn't recommend it. read more

Great hidden gem in Ithaca. Will definitely go back again. Prices are reasonable $9.95-$19.99 and portions are large. Our server was attentive with our drink refills and Alden's asked if we needed anything else. Ordered a pitcher of strawberry margarita and they were generous with their tequila. As for the menu their is so many food items to choose from and they do have photos of food. The decor is not fancy with red chairs and red booth tables but the great food beats all of that. If it's your birthday they will sing happy birthday and you will have to wear a sombrero. Overall our family had a great dinner and will come back again. Ok, this exterior is a bit mundane, however, I am a firm believer that you will find the best Mexican food in humble surroundings. The inside is also not going to win any awards for the aesthetics but again, that belief that the best Mexican food will often be found in humble circumstances. This is a family owned business and the service was friendly and food was good. The chips and salsa was good. It is also convenient for travelers, not far off the beaten path. Pleasant meal just 5 minutes off hwy 127. We found while driving, as an alternate to fast food. It was easy to find, park, good seat on patio, quick friendly service and ample food. Plus a small diversion from highway drive in cute county seat. We split an enchilada supreme plate, enough for two to stave off cravings and take a quick lunch break, and bathroom was clean. We stopped by for the first time. The chips and salsa were good. Light spice and nice flavors. Burrito Hermanos with beef was ok and the speedy Gonzales lunch was the hit for one reason. My wife had the taco with carnitas onion and cilantro on a corn tortilla. It was very authentic and good. The enchilada was ok as well. Acceptable but not spectacular. This is by far the best Mexican Restaurant in Gratiot County. This puts El Vaquero in Alma to shame. After being seated you are given a fresh basket of tortilla chips and a small pitcher of salsa; everyone at the table will receive their own bowl for the salsa. Great start, right off the bat. The drink orders were fast, prompt and served correctly. We ordered an appetizer and it was brought out very quickly. Very delicious. We placed our lunch orders and the timing was almost perfect with finishing our appetizer. The portion sizes of the lunch entrees were HUGE. It would be difficult for anyone to finish the whole plate. We noticed other tables had ordered a desert and those looked amazing as well. We were too stuffed to order one. The atmosphere is fantastic. Great Mexican decor and music. The staff here is also top notch! Super friendly and attentive. The prices are great considering the amount of food you receive. Thank you Yelpers, pulled off the freeway in Ithica and checked Yelp to see my non fastfood options. This authentic Mexican restaurant is about a mile off the road. Ate outside on a little patio and felt perfectly safe. My chicken chimichanga was delicious and not so covered in queso that it felt over unhealthy. The chips, rice, beans, and salsa were all excellent. Very pleased with lunch and ready to continue my drive. Spots like this make me so happy. read more

Literally my new favorite AUTHENTIC Mexican.I go there at least once a weekly, Sometimes two or three times. I always go there weekly and buy chips and salsa to go even if I don't dine in. I could literally drink the salsa. I absolutely love this place. Their food is very good and their employees are always very nice. The only reason it is not a 5 star is that their website said they gave a military discount on Mondays. I was in the military at the time. I made the order over the phone and ordered to go. I went to get my food and showed my ID while paying but they didn't discount the food. I'm pretty sure they forgot or just didn't make the connection and it's not a huge deal to me, but at least be aware of any discounts your restaurant offers and when they are applicable and who should get them. Delicious!! This is by far the best food and service at a Mexican restaurant within a 100 mile radius. Blows Cancun and Tia Helitas away. I've had a range of things here. Tonight it was the Hawaiian chicken fajitas. My honey had a giant burrito that was on special. Their food is special. We keep coming back since they opened weekly. It's kind of a hidden gem in Ithaca, Gratiot County!! I've had the beef and chicken tacos, chicken taquitos (flautas), and nachos as regular things I order. I've yet to be disappointed. read more

The customer service was really good and the place was very well decorated! Although I got the chicken enchiladas and they tasted amazing but the chicken was a bit dry and could use more seasoning. Overall I liked it and I would go back there again if they added some more seasoning!! Also for the menu I think it would be cool if you had most of it in Spanish then had English below it just so customers can learn a bit about the Spanish language. read more
