This place is about 45 minutes from my home and it's probably my favorite restaurant in my proximity. This was my third visit to WSS. Each time, I've had the gyro lamb burger. I had intended to try pasta Alla Norcina which I noticed last visit but the told me it's on the winter menu (I think that they were on the Spring menu). I spoke with the manager and he said to come back in two weeks and they will switch to the summer menu and that it contains his favorite pasta dish. We started talking about the Pasta Alla Norcinia and I told him my relatives are from Norcia Umbria and that I've made it several times. I told him I use Italian sausage and the manager said that the chef uses actual wild boar sausage. He said the chef has amazing connections for ingredients like this. They also have a full time pastry chef on staff and all their deserts are home made. I was informed that the chocolate ganache cake has had the longest run on the menu and never seems to come off so I tried that. It was delicious There are several items on the menu that I have to try. I took a few pictures of the Spring menu and I've added them below. The gulf shrimp is on my radar and I need to try the venison burger. I just need to get past the gyro lamb burger with tzatziki. It's just so good. read more

I was so happy to see that I had been here a few months ago but did not remember the name after I yelped for restaurants. The first time I came, I thought it was such a great find. Echoing the same for my 2nd visit. I travel a lot for work and finding a gem like Wood Shop Social is such a treat--it's definitely a couple cuts above the ordinary and very delish. The menu is creative and seasonal. I ordered a strawberry and crostini with burrata and even the crostini was just perfectly done which a lot of restaurants do not do well. Risotto is often screwed up in restaurants and it was perfectly perfect. Love it here. read more

We came for brunch and decided to sit on the rooftop. The menu had some great options and affordable prices. Each breakfast entree came with American fries. The food was top tier. Our waiter had 4 tables and struggled to keep up. These tables were at various stages of eating/ordering/waiting for food and checking out. He seemed to struggle with excellent customer service. Perhaps it was running up and down the stairs . One table came after we got our food, and he was down to 3, and after sitting for 10 minutes they left. We will be back. I met up with some friends for dinner here and really enjoyed the food! It was all day "social hour" since it was a Wednesday, so my friends got 1/2 off their draft beer. They were also doing a deal on their mocktails for dry January, which I thought was cool. The menu is pretty varied with lots of options for meat-eaters--I wouldn't come here if you're vegan or vegetarian. Entrees get a bit pricey (their steak frites is $49), but sandwiches are around $15-$18 and come with fries. I ordered the pesto chicken wrap with a side of mac and cheese instead of fries. My friend got the chicken and chorizo nachos and we decided to split them half and half. Our food came out quickly and looked really good! The wrap was tasty but I couldn't really taste the pistachio pesto. The mac and cheese was incredible--super cheesy, perfectly cooked cavatappi noodles, and very flavorful. I'm really glad I upgraded to that and would even consider getting the full entree size in the future. The nachos were pretty loaded, and a generous portion. I liked all the toppings but didn't really taste much chorizo. These would be a good starter for a group. Overall a very good experience and I would come back. read more

The atmosphere here is a modern bistro. It is brightly lit with a homey feel. They serve what I'd call a fusion of asian and American food. I ordered an appetizer of Japanese Fried Chicken bites ($14), this is Marinated and potato starch crusted fried chicken thighs, chili aioli, sweet soy. These were excellent. The chicken was crunchy and the sauce really went well with the chicken. For my main I ordered Wagyu Noodle Bowl ($28). This is a 6oz grilled Wagyu, dark soy, ginger, light soy, garlic, oyster sauce, Thai basil, onion, bell peppers, mushrooms, broccolini, carrot, and yaki soba noodles. This was fantastic. Especially the steak. Super tender and melted in my mouth. The noodles were excellent and the sauce complimented everything. I was really tempted with the cider cheesecake for desert, but I was too full. The service was excellent. Very friendly and helpful. Overall a 5 star review. Would I return? Absolutely. We've been here a few times before and have been pleased. This time was good but not great. Seating and restaurant was well lit, clean & comfortable. Service was very nice! Some food was delicious (Salmon & the burger - cooked perfectly, seasoned great). The whitefish tacos were tasty. The Caesar salads were over dressed. Not many shrimp. This is a really good place. The brussels sprout appetizer was really good with that bacon aïoli, but the Brussels were just a tiny bit undercooked for me. The Wagyu steak was delicious, but underseasoned. Once I put some salt and pepper on it, it was fantastic. The fries that came with it were out of this world. The carrot take bananas foster was really interesting. I don't know that I would put that combination together, but it was worth trying. Servers were excellent. Atmosphere is nice but casual. Meals: YES, there was just two of us and YES we got three meals, soup and an app. The menu is outstandingly elevated, packed with creativity and flavor profiles. We chose the Venison Chili to start and wow, it was amazing. Our meals were 1. Southern Mac 9/10: not our favorite due to the cheese sauce, but the flavors overall were spot on, noodles perfect, spicy jalapeños and the pickled onion was a perfect touch. 2. Steak Dinner: this is the meal that made me ask who the Chef here is! 100000/10! Most amazing, juicy, tender and flavorful steak I've ever had. I asked for a side of the truffle garlic aioli because I wanted to try it, the steak didn't need a darn thing (although I did take the horseradish aioli home to try and replicate!) The sides were perfect, the veggies and the potatoes - yum. The house made sauces were amazing but for only dunkin' those potatoes - don't ruin a good steak with sauce. Seriously, it's that good. 3. Gyro Lamb Burger: 10/10! The lamb was juicy, the homemade tzatziki was so darn flavorful and the cucumbers were crisp and fresh. Dessert: leftovers, and our delicious drinks from the bar - we didn't have a bite to spare in our stomach's. Hats off to the chef and team who created this menu! Went here for dinner. First thing I noticed is that we were not greeted at our table once sat for 5 minutes. This, to me, is a bad sign. The server seemed not very thrilled about her job and when a drink order was placed it took about 10 15 minutes to receive and the place was not busy. By the time the drink was received, it could not be enjoyed before dinner. Dinner was unimpressive and food was served borderline not warm. Nachos probably had 2 ounces of meat on them for $18. Not many toppings all on the nachos or cheese. Fries were cold. No lettuce and tomato on the burger. This is a decent spot in a nice college town. The decor is industrial and there is plenty of parking as it is located in a strip mall of sorts. We made "reservations" a week in advance due to our party of 13 traveling from all of the state to meet for family Christmas. Once we arrived, 5mins early to boot, it was explained that they don't really accept reservations but it's a "call ahead" policy. We explained that this was not told to us on either occasion that we discussed our reservation over the phone but we were assured that it would be a 25minute wait. We waited at the bar for an hour, thankfully there were 10 bar stools available for most of us to sit. And, the bartenders were most accommodating, attentive and patient! After our hour long wait, with three elementary school aged children, we were seated at our table. It was comfortable and we could all see each other and hear each other. Our orders were taken no problem and our waitress didn't skip a beat when it came to accuracy, kindness, and helpfulness. She truly made the hour long wait worth the service she provided us! Our food was all great, no complaints. We got everything from burgers, to chicken, to noodles, to dessert. Everything was flavorful and fresh. Will try again in the future if in the area and will keep their call ahead seating policy in mind. read more

What a great find! Food was excellent, Olivia our server was great and the ambience was perfect. My husband had the southern Mac and cheese and I had the pork chop. Appetizers, Brussels and the other was fish dip. All of the dishes were some of the best flavors we've ever tasted. The Brussels had so much flavor and they practically melted in your mouth. The pork chop with the butternut squash purée and apple chutney was like a flavor explosion in my mouth. My husband even said he could not find one flaw with anything we ate. We were in town for our son's robotics competition at CMU and after a long day stopped for dinner before driving home. We opted to sit at the bar we were quickly greeted. After taking a moment to peruse the menu, we ordered ourselves a couple beers. I really enjoyed the custom lager made for them by shorts, while my husband enjoyed an IPA. For dinner I had the mushroom flatbread while my husband ordered the lamb burger. Our food arrived promptly. My flatbread was just OK. The bartender had hyped it up so much I was just expecting more. Honestly it was a bit of a letdown. There wasn't a ton of flavor and it definitely could benefit from some heat or crushed red pepper. My husband's burger was also just OK. We decided to treat ourselves to dessert and that was easily the best part of our meal. We got the apple cider cheesecake and it was wonderful but very very small portion. Just kinda 'meh'. We were visiting from out of town and wanted to try a local spot. WSS was just okay, but nothing special. We stopped in on a week night (Tuesday) and were seated right away, but it took a very long time to get our food (we both ordered burgers). Unfortunately, the food was bland (definitely not as described on the menu) and not worth the wait. Our server took our order and delivered our check, but that was the only time we saw him. Someone else brought our drinks and delivered our food, but no one checked on us after that to see if everything was okay, if we needed anything, or to see if we needed our beverages refilled. The atmosphere was okay, but very loud. Highly unlikely we will give it another try. read more
