Hands-down, Manjarres is the best authentic food we have found here in Yuma! We love Manjarres so much that we visit Manjarres at least once a week. The atmosphere is nice and cozy, very welcoming staff and the food is always on point! Big portions and always fresh. Manjarres never disappoints!! Everything is just so good! I can only speak to my one visit, which is based on my experience with what the waitress suggested: Pepe's special, which is the pork in tomatillo sauce, but it gets six stars. Incredible flavor--rich, beautifully spiced, and so, so succulent. I wish I lived locally; I'd eat it daily. I should probably call them and see if they'll ship me some. I like to think I'm a self-proclaimed Mexican food connoisseur, having grown up in Southern California and having eaten Mexican food not only all across the Southwest (from Cal-Mex to Tex-Mex to the awesome culinary treat that is New Mexican cuisine) but across the entire United States and a good chunk of Mexico (from Zacatecas to Oaxaca and the Yucatan). The dish I had at Los Manjares de Pepe was unlike anything I've had anywhere else. Sure, the flavors and spices were ones I've encountered in Mexican cuisine both in Mexico and across the Mexican diaspora, but the fusion of those spices in the rich and heavenly sauce took it to the next level. I literally had to stop myself from licking the plate clean. This will definitely be on my must-eat-at list next time I'm anywhere in the region. I never thought I'd love Yuma so much but I had a blast hanging out there for an afternoon driving east, swimming in the Colorado River and then enjoying dinner here. We haven't been going to Los Manjares since early 2015, due to what we felt was a decline in overall service and food quality. Which coincidentally seemed to have happened after the main chef and owner opened a second branch out in the Foothills area, and subsequently had his children take over the business in the original restaurant on 8th St (Don't quote me on this. A little pajarito told us, don't remember who, though). Fast forward to today, and on a hunch, and because hubby had mentioned that our a Sensei had just eaten there lately and enjoyed his food--we decided to give it a shot. Without any big expectations of course--but at least we could eat some decent Mexican food for lunch. First, the overall outside appearance--if you're not a local, you might mistake this place as just a typical casita. Its exterior has been repainted (I don't remember it being yellow?). Parking may be tired but unless you're driving a Yukon or a Suburban, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle. Plus there's always side street parking. On the inside--they've done some nice things like some decorative touches here and there. It still looks kitschy but there's definitely an obvious desire to spiffy up the interior decor. But you wanted to hear about the food, didn't ya? Let the pictures be your guide to pique your interest at least. Plus the menu is quite extensive--from breakfast burritos at 3.75 (the cactus, egg and bacon burrito is a must!), to the standard lunch and dinner combination platters, you will be able to find something that suits your palate as well as those of your guests/family members. Hubby ordered the triple mix fajitas--it looked fantastic, and it wasn't greasy. The flavors were on point. Mine was super delicious (caldo de res or beef soup)! I'll crave this every other day, fosure. One of our guests ordered the 7 mares or seafood soup--that's on my "to try next time" list. For dessert--FLAN. Do you realize how rare it is to find flan at Mexican restaurants in Yuma? I know, right? I must admit, we didn't quite make it to dessert today, but if the flan now is as good as I remembered it to be in the past, then it's worth breaking away from your keto diet once (just kidding of course! Keto diets are the culinary version of "The Punisher". You cheat a little, it will make you wish you hadn't eaten that one bite of carbs!). I often judge the quality of any restaurant based on how good or bad their dinner rolls are. For Mexican restaurants it's the refried beans LoL It's safe to say that Los Manjares gets beans right. Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong, the food came out all separate times. by the time my food came out everyone else was finished eating. The server forgot my tortillas on top of that. If wasn't even busy, the food tasted like a ball of grease. I ate less then half of the food on my plate. (Had the Pete special) the meat tasted like it was microwaved burned my tongue. It was hot in the building and flys were everywhere. I still tipped the server 20$ cause of the times. read more

We arrived after the main lunch rush and the hostess sat us at a large dirty table. Then the server moved us to a smaller dirty table. This hole in a wall restaurant in Yuma, az is full of surprises. The Pepe's special pork with tomatillo is unbelievably good. melt in the mouth slow cooked pork with bold flavor of roasted chilli red sauce. Sopa de Birria is very good too. The beef is really simmered for a while and brings out the richness in the broth. I asked for a roasted jalapenos and thought im gonna get a cold roasted jalapenos like most of the mexican restaurant, but its not. They took time to cut some jalapenos and toss it in the grill and brushed it with vinegar, pepper and salt. it was still hot when it came out. This is the kind of restaurant that the owners really put their heart and pride on what they serve. There's no cutting corners. Not many places like this to be found anymore. Where do I even begin? Los Manjares De Pepe is the only restaurant I've tried in Yuma so I can't very well claim that this is the best Mexican food anyone can find in Yuma. IF this place is indeed the best Mexican food in Yuma, it would be tragic. But then again, not everyone has a Mexican Mom-in-law who cooks like an angel. The restaurant is on the small side and the interior reminded me of Mexican home that I've seen on some cheesy telenovela. It was rather homey and I quite like it. I had a bowl of White Menudo and Pepe's special. BF had Asada, Eggs & Nopales Burrito. Menudo was very lightly flavored. It had a lot of hominy and very little tripe. Usually I like Menudo but this was a little flavorless for me even with all the condiments I've added. Pepe's special consists of Pork in tomatillo sauce, frijoles, scrambled eggs, potatoes and salad. I had high hopes for Pork in tomatillo sauce but it was really disappointing. The fresh tomatillo sauce was nice but tasted one-dimensional. Frijoles was very good - definitely not canned beans. Scrambled eggs and potatoes were both okay. I didn't touch the salad. BF's breakfast burrito was massive in size! It was also massively disappointing in taste. Eggs and Nopales were both overcooked. The last time I went I ordered the sopes. They came out in less than 5 minutes. They were tough and I know they microwaved them. Was driving down eighth street looking for A Mexican restaurant, and decided to give this place a try. The restaurant itself is really big, I wonder though if they're ever full. Under the right management, this place could be great! Realistically the food deserves a five star rating, the price point is super reasonable, i would even go as far to say that they could raise their prices a little bit and it would still be a good price point. What made me give them three stars is that although the main part of the restaurant seemed topically cleaned of debris.. In my right mind, I couldn't feel comfortable in the establishment because of the condition of the restroom along with a few other details not worth mentioning. The restroom legitimately looked as though it hadn't had a deep clean, like, EVER. The food itself was really good though!! That's what kills me! Makes me wonder what happens out back though, like, is your kitchen clean? The server was OK. My husband gave it a five stars I give it a three, and since it's my yelp, my rating is gonna stick. Perhaps I'm just an East Coast rube that's never had decent Mexican food before, or perhaps my father just steered me wrong on this place - only the locals here would know. But I can say, for the benefit of my friends here in Baltimore and east of the Mississippi, that this place served me up some of the very BEST Mexican I have ever had in my entire life. Forget Torterilla Sinaloa, forget Tijuana Tacos, ladies and gents. This place is the real deal, the bomb, the shit, the ultimate. I have been spoiled. I am no longer able to get Mexican in Baltimore without comparing it to Manjares - and it will always be wanting! My father and stepmother took me here because it's their favorite Mexican joint, and I see why. From the beginning of the experience to the end, it was everything I expected from a legitimate Mexican restaurant, and more. I've read a few reviews about how the place isn't sparkling clean; it was just fine to me when I went, and I'm a STICKLER for these kinds of things. No, it wasn't "eat off the floor" level, but you know what? The atmosphere and the servers made up for that. We had several young women come up, offering us water and drinks and appetizers - the level of service was truly a standout here, and was well appreciated. I had a chile relleno platter here that, quite simply, blew me away. It was spicy, full of cheese and sauce and deliciousness. The salsa was just perfect - it was full of tomato flavor and didn't taste like it came out of a Pace jar (thank God for that!). And the beans were absolute PERFECTION. I don't like refried beans as a rule, usually, and they have to be pretty special for them to make the cut with me - but this was the very first time that I've ever wanted to actually order MORE. That's how good they were! The drinks here are bloody HUGE. Be prepared for it. I didn't need more than one glass of water and even that was way too much. The shock came when the bill arrived. A mere forty dollars for FOUR PEOPLE. Are you kidding me? That's a price for TWO in Baltimore for food that's not even as close to being as good. I paid that, and happily, and I would again. And again. The only real crime here is that Manjares can't be airlifted to the East Coast so that everyone here can share in the benefit of how Mexican food should be done. I will miss the Tex-Mex joints here in Baltimore (because, truthfully, that's what they are). But I will visit Manjares again when I come to Yuma. I'm so glad I have relatives there! Brilliant...Cactus with scrambled eggs - How tasty !!! What a way to wake up and start the day. While Los Manjares de Pepe looks like it's going to fall apart in crumbles from the outside, the outstanding treats waiting to greet your palate inside at the table are well worth it. The service is very warm, welcoming and efficient. My friend ordered the pancakes and they melted in your mouth like M&M's they were so tasty. A bit of a drive, but hey...I'll drive for food anytime. After all, the journey is the destination and in that case, probably the finest authentic Mexican dining I have yet to find in all my travels in the beautiful state of Arizona. read more

Los Mangares is kind of located in a weird section of Yuma. It's only a few blocks away from Downtown Yuma but I guess once get closer to Los Mangares, the area definitely becomes more industrialized (even has a strip club near by). This place is situated in what used to be house-turned Asian restaurant-turned Mexican restaurant, or so it seems. It's really a no frills place ... parking is in the back and is on packed sand. If you're not looking, you can easily miss this place. I ordered the quesadilla, chicken taco, and sonora roll... just for comparison to Mi Rancho. Sonora roll was much smaller and was greasier. Same with the taco -- they fried the folded roll. Quesadilla was good, but the middle portion was soggy (either from my own doing with the salsa or their cooking). Chips weren't very warm / fresh and the salsa was watery. One of my coworkers had to ask the waiter if he could get us a chunkier salsa (which they did). Overall OK. Service was great. Food was well priced ($1/$2 tacos)... but I think Mi Rancho gives you more taste for your money. read more

I took a friend with me for brunch and the food was excellent beyond expectations. They make spectacular soups like beef shank vegetables and delicious broth known as caldo de res. They have menudo that's again, wonderful. The breakfast plates are actually a giant plate for the main and several extra plates for rice, beans, tortillas etc. Dinners are beyond special. The closest to a Mexican home a white girl can get! I love this place! I am not in Yuma anymore, but I have to say, this is by far my favorite restaurant. The food is amazing, and there is such a large selection you can find exactly what you are looking for. Everything is authentic! The last time we were here we wanted to give our compliments to the chef, and when he came out, we understood why the food was so good. A true Mexican can only make food like that! He was unbelievably friendly, made us feel like we were in his home. Now, the downside is, the staff is limited and there is never enough workers for how busy this place is. We always ask for refills on our drinks when we are just to the 1/2 way point because you will be waiting, and if we want any extras (napkins, salsa, etc) we ask for as soon as we get our food. But, I cant say anything bad about this restaurant. So many of our family memories are in the wall of this restaurant. It is a truly special and unique place. If you have a large group call ahead, they will put you in the back of one of the rooms. We love to take our families here, as it feels like home to us. I wouldn't recommend taking any more than 15 people though, as there just isn't enough space/staff to hold that many people, and your experience may not be as enjoyable. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Yuma. I love that it's just a little mom and pop restaurant, and not a chain. It's definitely not the cleanest or nicest place but its perfect if you just want good mexican food and a good time with good people. It's always been fresh and great tasting every time I've been there. They have the best salsa in Yuma and I can't get enough of the Pepe's Special. Love their breakfast burritos too. Chips were stale, salsa tasted like it had been sitting in the refrigerator for weeks, my chimichanga was covered in grated Parmesan cheese, my wife's enchiladas had some suspect tasting chicken, and, to top it all off, service was absolutely horrible.
