Okay, Los Ponchos is located at a casino. It's not a run-down spot with roaches running around. The TV was showing "Jeopardy" and not tuned to either Telemundo nor Univision. Southwest Louisiana is home of the Cajuns & Creoles, that food is authentic here; the area is not famous for its Mexican food. But the food is still muy bueno. Los Ponchos has a separate entrance, and it's easy to see the sign from Highway 397. It's within half a mile from I-10, so if you're speeding between Lafayette and Beaumont, it's not far out of your way. The menu is full of things to eat: enchiladas, tostadas, tacos, quesadillas, even steaks and burgers (huh?). Or you can build your own combo, which I did: three items for $14.99. * Beef enchilada - the best of the bunch. Strong beefy taste. * Chicken taco - I had the soft taco, and it was so full of chicken, tomatoes, and lettuce that it spilled out onto the plate. Nice taste, tender chicken. * Chicken quesadilla - one tortilla folded over, and the cheese was gooey inside to hold that tender chicken inside and give it a nice flavor. * Served with refried beans & rice. I found another place that puts cheese on its refried beans, giving it a much better taste. Chips come with black beans in addition to salsa, a nice touch. Meanwhile, it is a clean place, tiles painted to look like south of the border. Not exactly authentic, but it does the job The ranchero and cumbia music sets the mood. Service with a smile. I was a lifelong Californian, and that state has some of the best Mexican food in the country; Mexicans moved north of the border, brought their recipes with them, and opened a place to eat just like home. Los Ponchos' food is up at THAT level, it's that good. If you're picky about your Mexican food, then make it a point to visit here. The casinos don't need your money, they're making plenty from the suckers, so don't be a loser, Los Ponchos is a winner. read more

Will NEVER be back. The general atmosphere was nice but the server we received was very rude & didn't know anything about the menu. She never introduced herself, we had to ask her name i believe it was bella or isabell, we honestly couldn't even understand her with how low she was talking. She seems super uninterested and upset the whole time. we were calm and nice but she was super slow. Our cups were empty and she was sitting at the bar talking to all the men there. Had the fajita quesadilla and the Barbacoa tacos. The food was amazing. The charro beans were so good as well. Everything was on point! This is not Tex-Mex. The staff is extremely friendly. I don't remember the waitress name but she's there every day except Sunday, go see her and the rest of the staff. read more

Food is always really good I always get a quesadilla supreme. When first served with chips and salsa I asked for queso as well. I highly recommend for anyone to go if they like Mexican food. The best in Lake Charles 10/10. read more

Ended up here on the way home to Texas from NOLA. Had a craving for Mexican food and was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting much tbh but the restaurant was clean & well decorated. There is a slight cigarette smell from the casino next door but nothing too irritable. I had the enchiladas verde (with chicken fajita) and my bf had the enchiladas rancheras. The flavor was spot on and plate prices were decent. They also serve refrained black beans with the entrees which is always a plus for me! No wait time, service & food was quick. The ambiance and service at this Tex Mex restaurant is superb. The decor is very original and they have good Tex Mex, not authentic Mexican. Portions are generous. We're from Florida and it's tough to find decent Mexican food, but I was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant when driving thru to Houston! it was very flavorful! I appreciate them having vegetarian options. Mexican is my favorite type of food , I could eat it everyday! I normally gauge if i'll eat at a restaurant by their salsa and queso. let's just say i'll be back , Salsa was packed with spice and cilantro 10/10 . Tamale stuffing was tasted! Everything was good. Only thing i'd change is location! It's built in next door to a casino/gambling hall so a strong odor of cigars slaps you in the face when first walking in but the food was good enough for me to overlook it. Went in for dinner, José was our server and was absolutely wonderful and the food was super delicious. The Ponchos cheese dip is a must. We also had the supreme enchiladas and a chimichanga. The portions are very generous and taste amazing. Do not judge this place by the exterior of the building, it is definitely a hidden gem. I ordered to go. When I went to pick up my food in the restaurant, it was dark and tacky!!!!!! It's adjacent to an old gas station. I heard so many good reviews of this restaurant but I absolutely hated it. My carne asada was tough and almost inedible. I ate half before I threw it in the garbage. The only good thing was that I could eat the bad food in my own home rather than being in that restaurant. I hate getting food to go but this is one time I was thankful- even though the food ended up being a total let down. My husband ordered nachos and didn't like them either. Who messes up nachos????? Wont return. Maybe the other locations are better but I will never order from or go to this one ever again. read more

AmAZzzzzing!!! Best Mexican fajitas I've had in a long time. I ordered to go and the waitress was so pleasant and accurate, she didn't write anything down and didn't make a single mistake! Everything I ordered included the 3-meat fajitas, with rice, Tortilla soup and extra tortillas was fresh And tasty, great value. Across from the new Red Roof Inn and a delightful surprise considering there aren't any other closer options. Great service, margaritas and the verde chicken enchiladas were darn near perfect. I enjoyed the black bean dip they served along side the chips and salsa. Excellent TexMex in Cajun country was completely unexpected but greatly enjoyed!! read more
