The wait is ABSOLUTELY worth it! This little lady, Florencia (the owner), was always making sure we had CHIPS! Our whole table ordered something different. I got the Chilaquiles, wasn't too fond of them. Our waiter said they were not spicy with the ranchera sauce and my mouth was on fire within a few bites. This little gem was a last minute decision when someone overheard us talking about where to eat and recommend that we try Los Pueblos. It was a great decision. The food was great and the service was excellent. The server was super patient with my kids and very attentive to our table of 8. The owner even came to say hi. The overall experience was very good! I ordered tacos Carne asada, Which comes with pico de gallo... Supposedly. There was some shredded lettuce on my plate and underneath there are a few little pieces of tomato . Even scraping what I could together there was not a enough pico de gallo for one of the three tacos. And by the way I had to salt the meat on the tacos. The waiter asked if everything was OK I expressed my opinion and he was very cocky. He said you got pico de Gallo...it is just under your lettuce. I scratched away the lettuce. He said will how do I know you didn't already eat it?? grrrrr. Then he said could I bring you some more pico de gallo and I said that would be great. He brought me a little thimble full. Then I got my bill and he had charged me two dollars for that small amount. The restaurant has gotten very cheap lately. They stop giving refills on salsa and chips. And according to what I read in other reviews a second basket cost $5.50! Unbelievable! read more

Very very good food IMO. I didn't expect it at all once there, but they know how to make the good stuff. Real margaritas, not the sugary mix or orange juice and triple sec. Tequila and fresh lime juice. Made excellent chiles toreado for us, and brought us their homemade hot sauces...including a nice super hot one they normally don't bring out until they saw me throwing down the jalapenos. Excellent selection of tequilas as well, definitely the best I've actually seen in the Mexican restaurants I've been to. Definitely support them and give them a shot if you're in town. read more

My husband & I ate here last week while visiting Okoboji. We had a great meal. We split a pitcher of margaritas--they were tasty & had the perfect amount of alcohol: not too much, but there was still a good kick to them. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was! I had chicken fajitas & they were excellent! The night we were there a magician was in the restaurant & entertaining guests. It was fun for kids & adults alike. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a but bland, but the staff was very friendly & attentive & the restaurant was very clean & well maintained. read more

If you've got a few hours to kill this is your place. We waited almost 2 hours for food. Had a 5 year old that was trying so hard to wait patiently. But I could feel the hungry monster brewing. I totally get an hour on a weekend but anything over that is a big organizational issue in the kitchen. Note restaurant not full, lots of open tables. At least none of the other 5 tables near us had food either so we all just sat there hungry as a united restaurant. Perks the salsa was good. It was clean. Waiter was friendly. I wish I could give zero stars. This place was ridiculous. We got seated right away which was nice but our waiter was awful. He brought our silverware and left without saying anything. Another waiter ended up getting our drink order and a few minutes after that our original waiter came to get our drink order. When we told him we just ordered drinks he left again. Finally brought us our drinks and took our order. We didn't see him or talk to him for 45 minutes after that. Not once did he, or anyone else, come to ask us for refills or see how we were doing. We ended up walking out. Stopped by the checkout counter and told the guy what happened and all he said was 'ok'. I couldn't believe it. This place sucks for service. read more

The Chimichanga's were frozen boxed food. Not cooked fresh. The vegetables were ice cold. The beans were like poured mush. The rice was hard and not cooked. The drinks were watered down. No waiter or waitress came back during the meal. Need I say more? Go to McDonald's. read more

The best Mexican food in Okoboji. They serve two different style salsas with the chips. There are also two different bottles of hot sauce on the table, one of them really spicy. The portions are typical of a Mexican restaurant. The favors are spot on and the place is clean. read more

We absolutely love this place! The wait staff and manager were very friendly and their margaritas are to die for (and HUGE!) I would highly recommend el mejor because it has a little bit of something and the combination fajitas are great and you get a lot of shrimp with them. Completely horrible.Don't go. I ordered a cheese pizza because I am a veg and don't care for Mexican food and I couldn't believe it when they brought it out it was a tombstone mini pizza that was microwaved!! My husband got spagetti that looked like it came from a box and my sons taco salad looked like a child's portion and a faijita with nothing on the side no rice or beans.Don't come here if you want to get full. Just don't come here at all.$35 for small portion garbage. You can get better food at Arnold's Park across the street,,it's carnival food but at least your not getting ripped off and it tastes better than this garbage. read more

Incredibly bad experience at this place. Wife ordered the chicken chimi and when it arrived, it was a 1/4 the size of any other chimichanga I've ever seen. We inquired with the waiter if the correct item was prepared and he said that it was. I asked to see the owner or manager and about five minutes later, a very combative woman, identifying herself as the owner, appeared and explained that customers like us made the restaurant business so tough. I asked her if she had ever heard the saying that "The customer is always right" and she told me that doesn't apply at her place. I'm not a difficult person to please but I was appalled by this attitude. The food is a very poor value and the taste and flavor is mediocre at best. I would not recommend this eatery to anyone I liked. read more
