We've eaten here more than once and haven't been disappointed. The food is good, the portions are perfect. The restaurant itself has that Spanish decor and music playing to kinda get you in the spirit of Mexican food. Our servers were attentive, friendly, and patient. Food was delicious; however, service was poor. We were seated once, then moved to another overcrowded, noisy room. It took 15 minutes before a waiter finally took our order, 50 minutes to get our food, and they overcharged me $15. It took another 15 minutes to get the bill right and they assured me I would be credited the $15 back. It was never refunded in spite of the fact that I was given a receipt showing that it had been refunded. Very poor management. Check your bill. They may say one thing but do another. Very disappointing that they did not refund my money. Don't go here if you are in a hurry. I'm calling today to see if they will refund the difference. The food is very good. We eat The Special they have on Friday nights, The Picadillo, includes desssert. The jumbo margaritas are the best to town. And free ice cream is a bonus. In the winter, the Caldo de Res is my favorite. I substitute the beef they use and add taco meat, and they use lots of chunky vegetables. I think they need bigger tables. They always bring so many plates, etc and there's not enough room for everything. Service is almost always great! There is a party room and the restaurant can hold a lot of people. read more

if i could do zero service stars I WOULD. we came in and asked for queso and we had to wait for 20 minutes for someone to come over and ask us yet again if we would like any appetizer. our queso then came out another 15 min later and had a hair right in the middle of it. we said whatever and just waited for our food , WHICH HAD HAIR IN IT AS WELL. we informed our server about the hair in our queso and he continued to stir it and push hair down and ask " where is it" . and to sum it up. the service was terrible, the food was dry and hairy, and the management never not once tried to help with situation. -100/10 will you catch me there again. sonic is next door 10/10 recommend going there instead over los hairos read more

I came here twice while on my work trip in Crockett and I liked it both times! It might have been because I was extremely hungry (maybe I would have liked anything?) but I do feel like the good was overall decent. The plates that they give you here are gigantic! The cheese tostada is basically a tortilla chip bowl with queso, so I just dipped the chips they give you (for the table) into the queso. I will say this much though: everything is somewhat salty (and I LIKE my things salty), so if you have a sensitive pallate, be careful of what you order (or maybe tell the servers about it). Also, free ice cream is always a plus! Overall: If I ever come back to Crockett I'll probably come back here to try some more food. Why the three stars? Simply because I've had a lot better for the price. But for the small town of Crockett, it was just right. read more

I'm kinda torn on how to rate this place. By Houston standards Los Ranchos is probably on par with Mexican "fast food" places like Taco Cabana. However since this is located in a small town in the middle of East Texas, well...this may be as good as it gets in these parts. I ordered a taco salad on my recent visit (see photos). It was unusual to say the least. The fried shell was good (I mean, everything tastes good fried) but the lettuce was actually hunks (quarters) of a head of iceberg lettuce and it old and kinda dried out; the ground beef wasn't seasoned and actually tasted like someone just browned some beef in a pan and threw it on top. The guacamole had an effervescnet quality to it and the "dressing" was packaged ranch. I asked if I could have queso instead of ranch, but they said they were out of queso. Odd. I've seriously had a better taco salad at Taco Cabana now that I think about it. Next time I'm in town I may go back and try their margaritas or something else on the menu...but really, don't expect much. read more

I stopped at this Mexican restaurant on my way home from central Louisiana. I am from Austin Texas where we have many good Mexican food restaurant choices. As I was pulling into Crockett I was looking at Yelp and trying to decide where to eat and drove by Los Ranchos. There were so many cars in the parking lot I decided it must be okay. The service was friendly. The chips and salsa were fresh. I ordered three cheese enchiladas with onions, rice, and beans. The plate also came with a small fried corn taco bowl filled with processed queso. The queso was nothing to write home about. The enchiladas, rice, and beans were okay. They weren't great. They weren't bad. They were just okay. I know Crockett Texas is a small town and this is probably as good as Mexican food gets in Crockett. The next time I am driving through Crockett I will probably try something different. read more

Good food overshadowed by inattentive and inconsistent service is Los Ranchos in a nutshell. Sometimes you just want reliable, straightforward Tex-Mex, and Los Ranchos certainly delivered that. In fact they do MUCH more than the standard Tex-Mex, with seafood and cactus dishes on the menu more like interior Mexican food than Tex-Mex. We love the more authentic food - but no one should have to wait for 15 minutes and ask 3 times for corn tortillas. Maybe flour tortillas are the standard, I don't know, but in places Like this we usually get both corn AND flour tortillas in the warmer. But at Los Rancheros they serve only flour tortillas. It takes 30 seconds to steam corn tortillas. I had to ask two different servers three times for them, and then wait while my dinner (fajitas with cactus and onions) cooled. The food we ordered - fajitas with cactus and a cheese enchilada, Chicken fajita flautas, ribeye fajitas and shrimp ranchero were all done well, even though the enchilada sauce on my cheese enchilada came out of a can. Los ranch is the best place in crockett for texmex. My favorite dish is the tampanquina plate with an extra cheese enchiladas. They have great salsa to start off your meal and you can never go wrong with their chunky avocado! read more

A very unique eatery that halves its menu into both authentic Mexican cuisine as well as Tex-Mex. From yummy looking quail dishes to T-Bone steaks, the menu is full of surprises as well as the usual. I've been to a lot of Mexican joints and this is the only one where the salsa for the chips was served warm. I like it! My super burrito came out quickly and was delicious, filled with fajita beef, rice, beans, tomatoes and lettuce, covered in queso. Margarita was splendid; not one of those pre-mix jobbers. Stopped by yesterday for a late lunch, go seated fairly quickly. Place was moderately busy, girl took our drink orders (Dr Pepper for me, Tea for wife) and left. Shortly my drink showed up, said she would be right back with the tea. Wife got her tea only after we had asked for it 3 times. Waited for the food for a ridiculous amount of time, finally showed up. I had enchilada plate, they were smallish and had very little filling in them, fairly bland. Wife had a enchilada-fajita combo thing. It was delivered to the table same time as mine, but hers was cold, or rather, lukewarm maybe. Mostly bland, the piece of fajita steak did have a good flavor, altho it was barely warm. Was supposed to come with soft tortillas also, they showed up just as we were done eating. Very disappointing. read more

Been there twice now and will probably be eating there a lot since I have some business in town. I had the chunky avocado salad which is basically guacamole that had not been mushed up. Excellent! Then a chicken fajita type dish that is served in a skillet but includes bacon. It has sauteed poblano peppers as well. Also excellent. The other time I had a "chicken sampler" type dish (can't remember what they called it) with chicken enchilada, chicken taco and chicken chalupa. Very fresh and tasty. Margarita was strong and tasty. I would like them to improve their receipts as I'm on an expense account and have very specific requirements. Stopped by here last weekend for a quick lunch. I am fairly sure the cheese topping and inside of my cheese enchiladas was imitation. I know some places use it but I am very picky and find it waxy. Just not a fan of their food. It honestly hurts my stomach and the last time I ate there, it came right back up as soon as I got home. I haven't eaten there since then, but the 7 or 8 times I've been, I couldn't figure out what was the best tasting and wouldn't hurt my stomach. If you order a dish that says it's topped with cheese, it's just queso, (just a little FYI in case you would rather have actual cheese). The grilled shrimp still has the shell on and legs, so I tend to stay away from grilled shrimp dishes. On the plus side, the salsa is decent and they serve a small bowl of warm queso with lunch. read more

The best food on the menu is the "iguana", a deep fried avocado stuffed with chicken and cheese. Also the "pollo diablo" is really good, a slice of chicken wrapped in a jalapeno, slice of bacon and Mexican cheese. This may be the worst restaurant to eat at in town. The staff is extremely unprofessional. They snicker at women and mumble perverted things in Spanish when they go to sit at their post at the front of the kitchen. The male staff act like it is a chore to serve the customers, you pretty much have to go to the kitchen and walk them to the table while giving them instructions in Spanish. The meat that they serve along with the queso is questionable and bland. I would not recommend this place if you want a good meal, or if you want a family meal for under 40 dollars. I have gave this place a try on 3 different occasions. The food is not great, but it's ok. All three times I've had the same waiter. HE WAS TERRIBLE!!! Basically no service at all. A couple sitting across from me were regulars and informed me that they try not to sit in his section because they knew what to expect if they did. He messed up our order all three times. Never brought our food to us. Someone else did while he stood laughing with other staff. Never refilled our drinks or came back to the table. Had to get another servers attention to get our food corrected and to get whatever we needed. So, we will not ever go back. I can say that this place has the worst service ever. read more

I moved to this area 2 years ago from Houston and found Los Ranchos to be very similar to what I was used to. I find the food and the waitstaff to be very good. However, recently I was charged .75 for substituting the sauce on my enchilada which I found highly unusual. I complained and they removed the charge. On my next visit I substituted rice for refried beans on the Cowboy entree and was charged $2.99! The waiter never mentioned the extra charge either. I totally understand that substitution fees are fairly normal in the restaurant business but both of these were ridiculous and a good waiter would have mentioned it; or not charged it at all in lieu of a good tip! I guess I'll go to Lufkin to eat out from now on since Crockett restaurants have become greedy bastards. read more

I usually do not write reviews; however, after visiting this place a few weeks ago, I feel that I must share my thoughts. Depending on what you order, the food is fairly decent. The salsa varies from visit to visit, the queso appetizer is usually good. The problem that I have is the service. The last visit is what is causing this rating to receive one star. The waiter was absolutely terrible. Long story short, he was practically non existent. Had I been he one paying for the meal, a manager would have been involved. When drinks go dry mid-meal and I have to get up and FIND my own to-go box, I feel that the service is poor, to say the least. The waiter made us feel as though we were bothering him by just being there. I almost felt like I was imposing! I think he hated his job, or at least he acted that way. read more
