Banana pudding cheesecake
Sean L.

I drove to Crockett for barbecue and left wondering why that banana pudding cheesecake doesn't come with a warning label and a choir. TL;DR: Mimsy's Craft Barbecue made my solo Friday road trip feel like a smoky sermon from the meat gods. The brisket? Juicy and proud. The ribs? Bold and tender. The sausage? Snapped like a firecracker in July. Potato salad with fried onion topping brought the crunch. And that banana pudding cheesecake? Sweet mercy. It deserved its own seatbelt on the ride home. Some folks ease into the weekend with a lawn chair and sweet tea. Not me. I hit the road with a cooler, a BBQ passport, and an appetite that don't mess around. Friday's mission: Mimsy's Craft Barbecue for lunch. Walked in to neon signage, wood-paneled comfort, and a menu that read like a love letter to Texas cuisine. I didn't hesitate. My order: * Brisket: Thick slices, perfect smoke ring, pulled apart with a gentle tug. Moist like a gospel hymn and seasoned like someone's grandma still works in the kitchen. * Ribs: Glazed just right, seasoned through the bone, and fell apart in my hand like a well-told secret. * Sausage: Thick, snappy, juicy. It bit back. I respected it. * Potato Salad: Creamy base topped with crispy fried onions. Whoever came up with that combo deserves a lifetime achievement award in side dish engineering. * Banana Pudding Cheesecake: Took it to-go for the Side Dish Queen. Got it home, opened the container, took one bite. We both stared at each other like we'd just witnessed a miracle. Smooth, rich, layered, and blessed with banana goodness. Got my 26th stamp on the passport and took a victory lap around the parking lot. Mimsy's didn't just meet expectations, it body-slammed them and then offered dessert. If you're on the Texas Monthly BBQ journey, don't you dare skip this stop. Worth every mile and every bite. I'll be back, probably for the Friday night ribeye... or just another slice of that cheesecake. Final Dad Line: That sausage snapped louder than a screen door in a Texas thunderstorm and I'm still dreaming about that cheesecake like it owes me money.

Mimsy's serves up some impressive barbecue in a fantastic setting. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The venue itself is great, with a nicely decorated space that offers both inside and outside seating, along with a kids' play area--a huge plus for families. Now, on to the food. The brisket was a definite standout. It had a wonderful, rich flavor, and the salt and pepper (SP) bark was spot-on, providing a perfect crust. A nice, prominent smoke ring and a healthy amount of rendered fat made for a tender and juicy bite. The ribs were also solid. They had a great pull from the bone, but I noticed a slightly overpowering "hammy" flavor that detracted a bit from the classic barbecue taste I was hoping for. The house-made birria sausage was a fantastic surprise. It had a delicious mix of pork and beef, complemented by melted cheese and a good kick of chili. The casing had a satisfying snap, which I appreciate. For sides, the Maple Sprouts were exceptional. They were perfectly charred and crispy, with the maple flavor coming through beautifully without being too sweet. The jambalaya was also a strong contender. It was loaded with flavorful sausage bits, and the rice was cooked just right. After all that, we were happy to see they also offer some nice desserts to round out the meal. Overall, I had a great meal at Mimsy's. The brisket and unique house sausage are must-tries, and the Maple Sprouts are a delicious side that stands on its own. While the ribs were a little off for my personal taste, the rest of the meal and the friendly atmosphere more than made up for it. I'd definitely go back for more.

Service was really good, but think a better system may save your staff many steps. The ribs were outstanding!! Brisket was perfectly seasoned and the fat helped with an overall dry slice. Ordering was easy and it was nice to order 3 meats without ordering too much meat. i.e. half sausage, 2-3 ribs, 1/3 pound brisket. Definitely Craft BBQ. wish I knew that I could bring my own beer as that is a nice opportunity. I'll be back, but may also try some other options nearby.

Chicken yummy !

Giving a four for the chicken alone. I usually don't get the chicken at a BBQ spot but this looked really yummy and oh boy was it! Loved the jerk rub. Now, onto the brisket..... I will say we got there almost at closing but the brisket was hard to get down because it was so dry. They were out of sausage and ribs. The only thing I can rate is the chicken and brisket. We got our stamp!

Brisket, sausage, pork rib and potato salad

I was driving to Natchitoches and decided to go to Mimsy's for lunch on a Saturday. Having gone here before I knew the brisket would be great. Got the 3 meat plate which comes with 2 sides. Well, let me just say that all the food was good but it was much better last time I was here. The brisket was good but not as peppery and smoky as it was last time. The sausage was still delicious as was the rib. The sides were the potato salad which was good and the pinto beans which were ok. This trip was a good lunch but I feel that today Mimsy's missed the mark for 5 stars.

Correct hours.

Super yummy. They were out of chicken by 1:45 on a Thursday. We had the brisket, pulled pork, wedge salad, maple Brussel sprouts and fried green tomatoes. All great! I want to come back and try their other selections. Something to keep in mind, the hours are NOT correct on yelp.

Combo plate $74 but good variety

It may seem a bit pricy, but you get what you pay for, and the quality of meat here goes unmatched in this area.

Walk up counter service with a menu split neatly into cold cut and oven baked sandwiches. Going with the Devito, my mind was thoroughly blown by how flavorful the red sauce and meats were all together, it had a combination of textures from the crusty bread cured cuts that made it fun to chew through every bite. My Stallone was also just such a pleasant mix of flavor with the pesto playing a bigger role on the cold cut options. This is one of the places where I feel like you can spin the wheel and get a winner with whatever fate decides. Things seem pretty easy and affordable here. Portions were pretty big here and around $12-$15 a sandwich, more than enough for a single person with some for a midnight snack later. There's a good bit of seating inside with some red gingham table clothes to eat over. It's worth the visit if your in Montgomery or after a day on the Lake!

My only disappointment was that the menu described it as coming on a crusty Italian roll, but the bread was soft with no crunch. A true crusty roll would have taken it from great to outstanding. The girl at the counter recommended getting the hot peppers so I got some on the side, and she was absolutely right--I'll definitely be adding those to future sandwiches. My husband ordered the Danza but accidentally received the Dinero. He still enjoyed it and gave it a solid 7/10. We also tried the Chicken Parmesan. It had good flavor, though it was a little too bread-heavy for my taste. Overall, the food was fresh, flavorful, and the portions were more than generous. We'll definitely be back to work our way through more of the menu.

My daughter had mentioned she heard this place had great pho so we looked it up and they happen to be open. It was good timing as the owner was about to go on a six week vacation to Vietnam. It's located inside the mini mall and you can't see any signage from the street but just walk into the area that says Rose's and you will find a store that reminds me aldi touch between a dollar store Ollie's. Just to the right inside the door you will find T's Sandwiches. No frills place here that is very clean but simple. This is certainly not the place for fast food, indeed many people called in and came by about 15 minutes later, only to still wait a few minutes. But nobody complained and it seemed like a normal part of the process. And everyone we saw come through we could tell were repeat customers who wished him well on his trip. Aptly named, the place really does some great American style sandwiches. My wife got the club and it was just fantastic, fries that came with it were amazing according to my college teenager who waited for my wife to finish and then devoured the rest of them. I asked the guy what the best order was and he said the soup (pho). My two girls and between us got the meatball, beef, and chicken soups. I thought the flavor was fantastic. This particular style has the grill flavor in it as he is cooking the meats on the grill and then infusing that into he soup for a wonderful, soulful flavor that I haven't had anywhere else and would also recommend for others. We also got the fried egg rolls and shrimp spring rolls, both of which were good. Slight word of warning as when he's cooking you can see smoke coming through the air and out to the open mall area so just be aware if you have allergies. The trick is certainly to put an order in and pick it up as he makes each order as it comes in and at times people waited for ten minutes just before he was able to get around and assist them...but again not one complaint! If you are in town and want a pleasant surprise just a few blocks off campus, meet up here. All that food, with bottled drinks added, came out to $60 which I thought was a great deal! This place would be worth a diversionary trip if you are in the area.

My wife and I liked the beef pho, and my daughter prefers the chicken pho. She says the chicken is tender & tasty with no fat. She also likes the spicy chicken fried rice, which is not actually spicy at all, but has a good flavor.
