We had a chicken plate and a rib plate. We stopped in late for lunch at around 2:15PM Chicken was tasty and moist. The ribs were delicious but a little dry, could be because it was late in the day for lunch. Cole slaw was just so so but not terrible; too finely chopped for our liking. Mac-n-cheese was perfectly warm and creamy. Sweet potatoes were really good. The pinto beans where very tasty too. The only cons overall is most of the food was a little on the cool side. The taste of the dry rub seasoning came through well. They give you the choice of lean slice or moist slices. I like the moist sliced brisket because the flavor of some fat is best. The sides of boiled cabbage, pinto beans and a role were great. I've cooked a lot of brisket using wood smoke and these folks do it very well. An unassuming spot connected to a gas station, it's not much to look at from the outside, but as you pass through the doors, you're greeted by the scent of smoked meats and the wood paneled, rustic charm of the dining room. Many items were sold out, but the friendly, patient staff at the counter offered up alternative options and suggestions. The chopped bbq and sliced brisket sandwiches were solid. We opted for lean brisket which was still tender and flavorful, but moist brisket is also available. We tried two kinds of sausage (regular and jalapeño cheese) and both had nice smokiness and snap. The kids smothered everything in sauce, which was thick and flavorful and not overly sweet or cloying. Sausage and cajun Boudin links, chopped beef sandwiches, ribs and brisket...we go hammmmm on the barbeque, Yelp. Why three stars? They changed cooks/pit masters some time ago and the barbeque perfection is lacking a little, but the new guy has been doing a pretty good job. Not bad. Sometimes the meat could be cooked a little longer, and sometimes it's OVERDONE and could be a little more tender, but no major complaints. The flavor is always there! I've never come across anything bland or underseasoned at this joint. At the self-serve station, they keep the barbeque sauce bottles in a warm bath of hot water, so the barbeque sauce is always warm. YESSSSSSS! read more

Fantastic pork ribs and near-flawless, flavorful brisket at this East Texas convenience store/restaurant. I'd give this five stars, but their sides are mediocre, and some of their meats don't fare under their heat lamps as well as others (the pork and sausage tends to dry out). I was in Crockett visiting a friend in the hospital. I called Doc's BBQ & Smoked Meats and placed an order for 2# sliced beef. When I arrived I was greeted by Karson who had my order bagged and ready for my arrival. She was very friendly and helpful while I decided on sides. As I was leaving a customer commented on how great the service was and how he enjoyed eating at Doc's. I agree. When I arrived home the order was exactly right (which does not always occur with to-go orders) complete with some excellent BBQ sauce. My whole family loved the flavor of the meat, very tender and had a smoky right off the grill taste. We saved our left overs and enjoyed it just as much as we did Monday night! We stop by at least 6 times a year on our way to Lufkin. I like that the servers trim some of the fat off the meat prior to serving. The ribs are simply delicious and the BBQ sauce in an excellent complement. There only 2 unique sides, macaroni & cheese and pecan pie. Everything else is just standard stuff like corn and beans. Well another BBQ joint that promises too much. It cost way too much for the amount of food you get. Food tasted great but my two meat plate had two small ribs and about a three inch sausage cut up. Three sides but only if you didn't get potato salad that counts as two sides. I ventured into Crocket on way to Nacogdoches and decided to try some bbq at a couple places. I am from Austin and know good bbq when I see it as we have some heavy hitters on Texas Monthly top 50 BBQ in Texas. This unspooling place attached to a gas station didn't look like much but man the bbq was good. Some may say it was smoked too long and got too tender but I like my moist brisket to melt in my mouth with smoke and pepper flavors and this did not disappoint. You don't even need bbq sauce. Fantastic. I also had chicken which was moist and flavorful. I did not try sides or dessert but people say good. If it's anything like the 2 meats I tried, you will be in for a treat. read more
