So, not the most authentic Mexican in Winchester, but the food is good, kinda fresh and the drinks are better. I ordered a trio of tacos. It came with refried beans, rice and Lettuce. The best part was the salsa that came with it. The tacos were okay, but I could tell they weren't fresh, but more like reheated. Also ordered shrimp fajitas. The shrimp was okay, but again not the freshest. So the food was just okay. What I really enjoyed were the margaritas. Tried both the frozen and on the rocks. They are sneaky. Two and I was feeling a buzz. I would go back just for the margaritas. They have 3 different sizes. The large one is like $24. Not sure about the medium one, but the small one is $5.50 and that same margarita is $3.99 during happy hour. I have really got tome come back for happy hour. read more

The food here was decent. Ordered the chicken fajitas Fajitas portion size is huge considering the price. Chicken was tasty. I would've like a bit more guac, but it was okay I guess... enough to make 3 tacos from the 3 corn tortillas that were provided. I haven't been here it years...and now I want those years back. This place is better than I remember. Everything that came out was great, the service was on point, and we couldn't have asked for anything better! If I had to nitpick cause that is what you are supposed to do here, I would say the kitchen was too fast. So pro tip..enjoy a drink and your appetizers for a minute prior to putting in your food order to space things out a little bit. But that is not a biggie for me though. read more

It hurts to write this review. I've been eating here for over 20 years and the food has always been amazing... until today. I don't know if it's new management, but the restaurant has crashed hard. The chips they served were stale, and when I asked for a new basket, I was informed that the first one is free, and there was a charge for another basket. FOR CHIPS?! That was my first clue. The second was that all the staff had been replaced, the third was the food quality had diminished severely. My wife ordered the Enchiladas Supreme, the mole sauce was not even spiced, not a hint of chocolate and what is worse is that it tasted as if someone tried to cut it down by adding ketchup. My daughter had the fajitas Del Mar and the scallops tasted like they came right from the Seapak frozen food section of the grocery store. I had the fajitas texanas where the shrimp tasted of freezer burn and the the chicken and steak... well... let's just say my stomach is upset. What happened?! Really, I have always recommended this place to everybody for its ambiance and out of this world cooking. Now I the only person I would tip about this place is the health department. It hurts to say this, but the new unreadable menus and poor quality of food, I'd steer clear. At least the waitress was nice and did her job well, but it doesn't make up for the fact that for $70 Taco Bell could have done something better, and that's saying something. read more

While this used to be the weak link in the Toltecos chain, and while I haven't been there in a while, I don't think that things could've been so bad that their quality took a massive nosedive. Yet somehow it did, and that's a shame. My wife and I ordered enchiladas; she had the enchiladas poblanas while I had the supreme. In neither case did they taste like the actual Mexican food I have gotten there before; Taco Bell is more authentic in comparison to tonight's fare. You could practically taste the aluminum of the can the tomato sauce came out of, and the mole on my wife's tasted more like mud than mole. Maybe they were having a bad day, but I can't expect it to be this bad. It'd be a shame otherwise. read more

Great service today and a very big meal. As the salsa was the right kind for me - thick and not drippy, I ate a few of the warm and lightly salted chips while I looked over the menu. My eyes settled on the "Chorizo Steak" and ordered that. A very large piece of steak arrived, cooked to a medium and topped with grilled onions and melted cheese and a lot of crumbled chorizo. I managed to eat the entire thing, including all three flour tortillas and some of the rice and beans. Lots of food here. A large Pacifico (draft!) with it and then flan for dessert. "Cerdo" is Spanish for "pig" and that's what I was. Great meal, lots of food, good service. Oh, and they have a free wifi which had me sticking around a little bit longer because the signal at the hotel was useless. Absolutely would return to Los Toltecos. read more

If you cannot eat beef or pork for some reason (like me), I do not recommend this restaurant. There is only like 5 chicken dish options and a few of the lunch specials are chicken but if you don't look there is pork or beef in the dish as well. The chicken dishes aren't the most appetizing. You'd think that if the dish says dinner, you'd expect a largish plate. The plate I got was barely anything, it was fairly small. I got the 2 chicken burritos with rice and beans, it was more like 2 small enchiladas and okay rice and beans. Personally, I will not be returning. read more

If you are in the area, it's a no-brainer. And IF you are stopping through for an overnight, stay at the La Quinta which sits just across the street (it's AH-mazing). You can't beat walking to dinner after so many hours in the car. We read great reviews of Los Toltecos and all proved true. Fantastic food and fair prices. Excellent menu. If wine is your drink of choice, just know this is not their main focus (all Barefoot Brand wines) but if you love Margaritas, hard liquors, mixed drinks and beer, they've got you covered. Ive been going here for years and always had good food. My mother wanted to go here today for her 82nd birthday. The first bite I took, which was rice, had absolutely no taste. I knew the rest of the dinner would go downhill. It did. Just like everything else, quality declines but prices keep increasing. The majority of the food did not get eaten. The waitress didn't smile or respond to thank you once. They did give my mom the birthday song and fried tortilla w/ cinnamon. That was nice. 1 more thing. They were playing music, 2 songs at a time. We stopped here for the first time on our way home from a trip north, but this restaurant is now number one on our list of places to eat at on our frequent trips up north from SW Virginia. I was somewhat disappointed in my experience here. I went with a group of 10 and we sat on the patio. The service was great because we were the only ones there on Sat evening. The chips and salsa are exceptional. I ordered a top shelf margarita with patron. It was terrible. Their fish tacos were OK, with Mahi. at least it wasn't Talapia like everyone else's. A couple of years, and a completely different experience. Skip Los Toltecos and instead check out Ranchero which is across from the shopping strip hell area of Winchester. Lost Toltecos used to be so very good, but then they decided to cater to the college kid crowd and everything went down hill from there. Stupid juke box with too loud non-mexican music. Waaay too much grease in the food. Bar area that is "the scene" for who knows what reason. And to top it all off, they raised their prices for no good reason. I looked around and turned to my friend and said "this is not a good sign". It was noon at at the peak of lunch hour and the place was empty. I am a huge fan of Mexican food. I have never eaten at a place that I did not like. That being said, this was the worst food I have ever eaten. I got a burrito and a taco. No flavor at all. The worst part of the experience was when I got up to go to the restroom. As I entered the hallway a fowl smell hit me. I figured that it must be coming from the restrooms. Wrong! The odor was coming from the area of the kitchen. I tried to explain it to my friend but all I could say that it was fowl and rancid. We both got the lunch specials and our bill was over $40. Stopped in for dinner, and the three of us (Spouse, daughter and I) all were immediately seated and courteously offered drinks, chips and appetizers. The guacamole, salsa and chips were all very good. The frozen margarita was also good, and traditionally presented in a cactus adorned glass. I was a bit bothered that we were seated near the bar, and a UFC fight was being shown - in easy view of my five year old... but, I just had her take a different seat out of the direct view of the bar... problem solved. My seafood enchilada came with green tomateo sauce which was tasty, and my wife thought her chicken enchilada with red sauce meal was also well done. My young daughter opted for their free cheeseburger and fries, which she consumed quickly. All in all, this is a good, basic, solid Mexican restaurant that should meet the hunger needs of the average eater. I was personally pleased with the seafood enchilada, in which I opt'ed out on the sour cream and cheese, and glad I did. The addition of dairy would have made the dish heavy and mottled - but instead the flavors were very good. Bottom line: A very good base that can get overwhelmed by heavy toppings. Drinks were decent, but service was horrible, they forgot one of the things we've ordered and I had to go find the waiter and ask for our friends meal after waiting for a half hour. Me and a co-worker were staying at a nearby hotel and decided to stop in for a late lunch. Once we walked in the doors, we had to wait a few moments to be sat. Not because they were trying to find our table, but because no one was around for about 4 minutes. Once I poked my head in the kitchen area, a waitress came out to seat us. Nothing against our waitress, but she stated she was new and the entire experience showcased her inexperience. She was super nice, but unfortunately got both of our orders wrong. One of us ordered tacos with just meat and cheese. It was delivered with meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato...the waitress stated that she thought we ordered "tacos with the works". I mean, I guess those sound similar..."the works" versus "meat and cheese"... Overall, the food was good. Service was a little shaky. Definitely a keeper and a repeater! One of a few Mexican restaurants in Winchester - located right off of Highway 50, located next to a Chinese buffet... Great bier! Dos XXX (lager and amber) on tap along with great marguaritas (others have informed me). Chips and salsa (chunky, spicy - had to have the staff bring three baskets and four bowls (for three folks). Been at the restaurant a few times and have not been disappointed - great, attentive staff... Good, affordable Mexican food with a bar that has affordable drinks! read more

Went to Toltecos for an event. We kept asking everyone for dinner menus but we kept getting answers that someone will soon come to serve. An hour past and nobody served us or even took a cocktail order. Our party of 8 switched tables several times in hopes to get service. 15 minutes before 10pm I went to speak to the manager who told us the dinner service was only in front of the restaurant and that in 15 minutes the kitchen was going to close. So I went on front and ordered a meal on my own. Writing this while waiting, for a Margarita and a fajita...will update soon and if the food is good will give more stars but so far service is poor. Food was worth the wait. Reina, rectified all dues from this place. Might come back cuz the food was good and cocktails where super strong. read more

I am staying at the Aloft Hotel across the street and decided to check this place out for dinner. I couldn't be more pleased with the experience. It's a Wednesday evening about 8:30pm, the music is very festive and inviting, smells and looks very clean, and I was seated right away. Fantastic service. Free chips (the good kind) and homemade salsa. Very impressed. I ordered two chicken enchiladas with cheese sauce, rice and black beans. It was really great. Chicken was flavorful.
