Do not stay at this campground. We are a full-time family who's been on the road for a year and a half. We have never in all of our years of camping or traveling--and we travel a lot--we've never encountered anyone as rude as the general manager and her daughter who basically run the campground. I don't think they own the place, but whoever owns it needs to change management ASAP! The staff at Lost Acres is not liked by locals and they had my family of 4 escorted off the property by local cops because I complained to the daughter about how rude her mom was. They need to be replaced and the owner needs to have more say in what goes on in their campground and if they are the owners than I hope this impacts them because no one I talked to is happy with what's going on under the new management even the poor seasonal people whom most were so kind! We stayed there from August 23-30th. We were supposed to stay until Tuesday after Labor Day. In fact, they enjoyed having our family there so much last weekend, that they let us take a seasonal spot and gave us a discount for staying over the holiday weekend. So we were fine until we complained it seems. I told them we were going to stay in Cincinnati for a couple days and we set up and left our trailer in the new seasonal site they gave us and all was well. We were still paying per night so they weren't giving us any discounts by letting us keep our trailer there. We got back to the campground today August 30th and the lady who works at the front desk and is the general manager --who's been the most unfriendly to us since we arrived and whom the seasonal people and other campers don't seem to care too much for-- was at the booth and we pulled up and asked if we could get a flyer for the events happening this holiday weekend. She wasn't friendly and she looked at us like she was bothered we had our dirt bikes in the back which we'd had every other time we've pulled in-- she told us she didn't have a print out of the fun events our family was looking forward to-- but made sure we knew again that we couldn't ride our dirt bikes and off we drove with that nice "welcome" ringing in our ears. So I walked over to the office and got the flier the person who was welcoming campers said she didn't have and I thought I'd mention what happened to the two woman at the front desk. I happened to bring up the fact that the lady at the gate (general manager) wasn't nice to her daughter who works the front desk and the lady I ori talked to who was kind the entire time. I explained to both of them what had happened and the daughter didn't like what I was saying about her mom and told me if I have further complaints than I'm welcome to leave the campground to which I was very surprised and continued to talk with both ladies as to why I'm being told to leave. As I'm asking for clarification, the daughter asks me to leave because I'm being combative and then she has her mom come over to talk to me while she's on the phone with the cops. The mom comes to talk and I start explaining she wasn't nice to us and she didn't want to hear it and left. Her daughter then tells me to leave the office and I tell her I will wait for the sheriff and my daughter who was playing video games. She said we can both leave and then called the local cops and desc what I was wearing and told them I was being combative so 3 cop cars showed up for this. They apologized for what was happening and were nice to our family. It's too bad the city's resources are being used to be called to this campground for reasons like this. We heard this happens a lot and it's not a good look for the nice town. We luckily ran into some kind locals at the campground who offered for us to stay on their property because they knew we wouldn't be able to find anywhere for the holiday weekend. So there's still good people out there and they were what our family needed and they give this town a good reputation. Let this be a warning if you go stay there. In our opinion, I'd pick anywhere else to stay before having to deal with management at Lost Acres. read more

Shara needs to be fired! She does not handle situations or stress well. She will yell at monthly's because they tell her, that they don't like how she speaks to them. Yes, the other poster is correct, she runs the park as a dictatorship. A lot of seasonals walk on eggshells because of her. Shara has given lost acres a bad name. However, the campground itself is a nice place to camp, if she didn't manage it. However, the pool has a heater but it is ALWAYS cold, it's either reported broke or not in use. The pond is full of algae because they have not replaced the fountain....which means bugs. Shara has rules for some and not for others. Shara speeds through the campground on her golf cart, yet doesn't allow others to. She sends out an email that says you can't drive in between the house and shed with your golf cart and then the next she puts out a sign that says golf carts are allowed. She changes rules weekly. She also made a huge deal about a contractor putting the black tank in the trash compactor. Kick him out for it, called the EPA and then she found out, it was a non issue with them. She gave me a letter that says, I am responsible for the contractors that I bring in and they will allow me to finish out my contract. She over reacts to everything! A couple of times, I drove by the "seasonal, who became the activity directors" site, and several time I smelled weed coming from their site. I personally, don't care but In Indiana, it's still against the law. I don't recommend that you become a seasonal. They have a clause in their contract #11, they can kick you out for ANY reason, which includes Shara being in a bipolar mood and God forbid it you ask her to speak to you respectfully, she will kick you out. read more

This campground on the surface is nice with many things to entertain kids. The ongoing problem the past five years has been management. The new owners as of 2019 appear to be hands off and has hired a management group to oversee. The first management group was fired because the were doing nothing for the sake of the camp, but receiving their management fees. The second management group allowed great managers to leave from lack of support and/or let go great managers who truly was taking care of the many issues the campground was having. Fortunately, many seasonals were told to leave camp because of their aggressive behaviors, but other seasonals, who were upset their friends had to go, started drama by contacting management group to complain how the seasonals were treated. Which bring me to today. Management group has a general manager who changes rules daily on a whim, so you never can trust the rules to be enforced without favoritism to her friends and family. The manager drives around campground complaining to those who will listen, how rough she has dealing with campers. I do not recommend this camp because it has yet to become a business you can depend on to be consistent or dependable. read more

Old owner (who was not the best) sold to an LLC who hired a management company. They are like the Three Stooges of management companies. Misinformation abounds. Three GMs have come and gone and today a new one takes over (apparently). They sent an idiot 'regional manager' to talk to us and he thought he could be everyone's pal by constantly hoisting a miller lite over his head and trying to get us to chant 'whoo'. He then got scared when people started yelling at him and apparently lost his script. We find out that they want us to "move our campers and by Nov 1 and we aren't guaranteed to get the same site back'. F that. It cost me $700 to move one site to my current site and I have $5000 invested in a covered deck. If we have to move the camper it's going out of that campground and will never come back. I called up there and a lady name Sherry or Schrey something like that she is the one who runs it anyways long story short she's very rude. She cursed while I was on the phone throwing the F bomb out there and I was looking to get a spot there and she said they didn't have any which I know is a lie because my aunt has a friend that has a camper there and I was just there last weekend and they have so many open lots! The staff is very rude. They treated my elderly family member ,who came to visit while I was camping, like a criminal. She was told to leave and never to return since she was not a paying customer. And in front of her grandson, who was walking with her, told her she was a poor example to her grandchild for trespassing. The facility is subpar, the water has a odor, dogs run free and music is played lout at all hours of the night. read more

Great RV park! For the two recent 1 star reviews, you done something wrong. Great management. Been here about month now. Not had any problems. Dogs do not just run free. Friendly staff. They are a work in progress on the park. The last management ran it into the ground. And now this new team is working on fixing and cleaning it up. The only issue I have is on entry before you have your gate key. You have to call a number to have somebody come out and let you through. Make sure you call before you show up with a camper. It will be hard to back out. Other then the entry and exit gate situation. Love the park, great,safe,clean,and they are trying! Would recommend to anybody staying in Monticello. read more

Poor management and ownership, very expensive seasonal camping. Tried to file a complaint with the owners about the management and the owners will not return out calls or emails. Management debited our bank account with out our permission and was told by the secretary of the campground that it was ok because it was in the contract we signed but it is not. read more

If you're looking for the best campground in or near Monticello, you have found it here at Lost Acres. We were here last year, and we've heard and saw that in the past, management hasn't always been the greatest. However this has completely changed this year they have really turned this campground into the best family friendly destination for overnighters to seasonal full timers. The major difference is this is a campground not just a place where trailers sit and fall apart. All campers are newer so no ugly eyesores to look at. They have a gated entry so people that aren't staying here can't just come in and out making it safer for the campers. All seasonal campers have done a background check, so a piece of mind when your kids are outside. They have a nice big playground, inflatable jump pillow, heated pool, fishing pond, camp store, and beautiful views of nature. The staff cares about the campers, and go above and beyond for everyone. They have kid, and adult activities the girls who do the kid activities are the best! They really interact with the kids, helping and assisting when someone is in need. They really encourage the kids to try new things, and make the kids feel like they are having the time of their life! Wouldn't know what we would do without them. If you have dogs another great thing is they have a huge dog fence with it being divided into 2 so big dogs can be separate from the little ones. We've stayed and been to other campgrounds around the area, and must say there is a reason we picked Lost Acres as our home base. It is a quite, friendly, trouble free, relaxed atmosphere where you can set outside, and actually enjoy your time here. We stayed the weekend at the campground and I have never before seen such lack of respect for the patrons there. The bathrooms were not finished, toilets did not flush, no hot water, and most of the amenities that were listed in advertising were not available. The lot he put us on was a muddy mess, we did not want to set up there but basically he told us to take it or leave it, The owner was extremely RUDE. read more

We were there for the 4th holiday season the owner was real nice and accommodating the new bathroom additions look great the old ones need to be looked at as they can we cleaner maybe add a bug zapper or yellow lights to limit the bugs inside, the pool was clean and water was as comfortable, price was good and the area was quiet read more

I had high expectations for this place so when we arrived and seen the two spots the gave us for our group were muddy and flooded I was less then happy . Along with the flood and muddy spots we had to deal with nasty muddy roads in the campground , rude seasonal people blaring their music at 1am and then again at 7am . When you arrive they give you no map of the campground which I found to be strange considering that is the first time that's ever happen to us . Also the bathrooms we very dirty and never had any toilet paper . The over all campground needs lots of work. Many things need painted and attention . The biggest issue is they shouldn't be putting people on flooded spots . My husband and I paid to stay for 10 days and left after just 5 and cut our losses . Customer service is great! We had to stop there unexpectedly without a reservation because we had a mechanical breakdown earlier in the day and got off schedule. Ronny and his brother who run the place are very nice and accommodating. They were so helpful with getting us hooked up at our space (IN THE DARK). We only stayed one night so we didn't have a real chance to experience the actual campground. But I would definitely recommend! Funny part - they asked me how we found them. I told them "Yelp! You guys have 1 great review!". They both replied, "Yelp - what's that?" LOL. read more

First time camping here we had a nice time and everyone seemed friendly. We were assigned a camping space in the back which was good since we have four dogs. The kids enjoyed the pool which was well maintained and clean. The only down side is we had to pay for three days because they said it was a three day minimum and we only wanted two due to work so we left after two days and just lost out the money for the third. Also if coming here don't bring your own firewood you have to buy theirs and if you want internet it a charge too. read more

This place was one of the worse campgrounds I have ever stayed at. The locals were loud and partied until late in the night and the noise was aweful. If you want to get some sleep this is not the place. The bathrooms were dirty and scary. The ground was nothing but mud. No grass. I will never be back!!!!!! After many years of weekend camping at Lost Acres, we became seasonal campers in 2014. The amenities for the price cannot be beat. There is a pool, laundry, planned activities on the weekends, large stocked pond, game room and store. The campground is about a mile or so from Indiana Beach Amusement Park and Lake Shafer. It is close to town so there is also plenty to do away from the campground, such as the drive-in theater. I highly recommend it either for a weekend trip or a seasonal stay. We cannot wait for the season to start up again and to get back up there for another summer of fun and relaxation! read more
