We have never in all of our years of camping or traveling--and we travel a lot--we've never encountered anyone as rude as the general manager and her daughter who basically run the campground. I don't think they own the place, but whoever owns it needs to change management ASAP! The staff at Lost Acres is not liked by locals and they had my family of 4 escorted off the property by local cops because I complained to the daughter about how rude her mom was. They need to be replaced and the owner needs to have more say in what goes on in their campground and if they are the owners than I hope this impacts them because no one I talked to is happy with what's going on under the new management even the poor seasonal people whom most were so kind! We stayed there from August 23-30th. We were supposed to stay until Tuesday after Labor Day. In fact, they enjoyed having our family there so much last weekend, that they let us take a seasonal spot and gave us a discount for staying over the holiday weekend. So we were fine until we complained it seems. I told them we were going to stay in Cincinnati for a couple days and we set up and left our trailer in the new seasonal site they gave us and all was well. We were still paying per night so they weren't giving us any discounts by letting us keep our trailer there. We got back to the campground today August 30th and the lady who works at the front desk and is the general manager --who's been the most unfriendly to us since we arrived and whom the seasonal people and other campers don't seem to care too much for-- was at the booth and we pulled up and asked if we could get a flyer for the events happening this holiday weekend. She wasn't friendly and she looked at us like she was bothered we had our dirt bikes in the back which we'd had every other time we've pulled in-- she told us she didn't have a print out of the fun events our family was looking forward to-- but made sure we knew again that we couldn't ride our dirt bikes and off we drove with that nice "welcome" ringing in our ears. So I walked over to the office and got the flier the person who was welcoming campers said she didn't have and I thought I'd mention what happened to the two woman at the front desk. I happened to bring up the fact that the lady at the gate (general manager) wasn't nice to her daughter who works the front desk and the lady I ori talked to who was kind the entire time. I explained to both of them what had happened and the daughter didn't like what I was saying about her mom and told me if I have further complaints than I'm welcome to leave the campground to which I was very surprised and continued to talk with both ladies as to why I'm being told to leave. As I'm asking for clarification, the daughter asks me to leave because I'm being combative and then she has her mom come over to talk to me while she's on the phone with the cops. The mom comes to talk and I start explaining she wasn't nice to us and she didn't want to hear it and left. Her daughter then tells me to leave the office and I tell her I will wait for the sheriff and my daughter who was playing video games. She said we can both leave and then called the local cops and desc what I was wearing and told them I was being combative so 3 cop cars showed up for this. They apologized for what was happening and were nice to our family. It's too bad the city's resources are being used to be called to this campground for reasons like this. We heard this happens a lot and it's not a good look for the nice town. We luckily ran into some kind locals at the campground who offered for us to stay on their property because they knew we wouldn't be able to find anywhere for the holiday weekend. So there's still good people out there and they were what our family needed and they give this town a good reputation. Let this be a warning if you go stay there. In our opinion, I'd pick anywhere else to stay before having to deal with management at Lost Acres.

The trails are mostly flat and easy. There is even a working farm and historical building to check out. If paved areas are perfect to stretch your legs on or bike on. Only gripes if I had to really try hard to think of any are that the campground seems understaffed. Unlike some other state parks, you rarely see DNR driving through here. Often times the camp check in is done at the main gate as there is not enough staff to go around. The proximity to Lafayette and West Lafayette make it super convenient as well. Feel like sitting down in a restaurant and not cooking? No problem. Options galore within 10-20 mins of driving.

Staff (hosts, in particular) couldn't have been much more deplorable to us about it. We understand the policy, but there's a common decency to enforcing it in one's volunteer role (wearing a DNR hat). We're not loud. We respect other people, nature, and the place. Yet, there's 40' pushers with a jeep and 2 motorcycles who apparently don't have to abide by the same rules. When our guests did leave, the hosts thanked them for leaving loudly as they drove by. The campground was more than half empty, mind you. Sadly, we will think twice about returning if there are other options. If management values people coming here to camp on their vacation time, a close inspection of customer service might be a great way to approach that goal.

From what we saw almost everyone had permanent homes here. Our original campground had a water main break so we were a little desperate and had to find something quickly. Staff were nice but it was very noisy (we stayed on a Friday night). quiet hours start at midnight on weekends which is much too late for camping. There also was about 20 minutes of loud rap music around 1 am but it finally stopped. bathroom are spartan (although they did clean them as they smelled of cleaner). I did ask for a partial refund and although the kind lady offered a gift certificate for another try, that was a no thank you for me.

The campground is located right off the expressway, so it's very easy to get to. I get the feeling this campground caters more to long term/ seasonal campers who set up their campers and stay all season. Tent sites are hard to come by and are pretty scattered. Since we were camping with another couple there was apparently on one site that could accommodate us. We arrived on a Thursday and the campground was pretty quiet and sparsely populated. Friday, as expected, the crowd thickened. Apparently this particular Saturday was something like "Half Off Day Pass Admission" day, because the beach was swamped with people -- NONE of them following any COVID guidelines or wearing a mask. Not. A. Single. One. They did a cool thing and put a water down the hill from the hill by the beach to the water. That was nifty, but dozens of people ( kids mostly ) in line to ride it looked like fun but, again, no social distancing or masks. Same thing goes for the 2,807 golf carts so crammed in by the beach that one very nearly ran over one of our dogs with no regard. The restrooms/showers we cleaned a couple times a day and are pretty conveniently placed throughout the park. There are a few playgrounds around and the pool is pretty decently sized for a campground. Gonna have to ding this campground on a couple things. First: Speed limits. Throughout the park there a speed limit signs. Those signs say "Speed Limit 5". I have absolutely no issue with a 5 mph speed limit in a place like this. You've got kids, dogs, people walking and riding bikes and scooters all day long. My issue is that the speed limit is not enforced...at all....anywhere. Cars zoom buy our campsite at 20-30 miles an hour routinely. I would like to add that the speed limit apparently doesn't not apply to golf carts. They are clearly the biggest offender when it comes to the speed limit. Second: Quiet Hours. From their website: Quiet Hours Sunday - Thursday 10 pm to 8 am Friday & Saturday Midnight to 8 am Quiet hours are not enforced. This particular weekend (we were there for three nights), golf carts with radios playing loudly could be heard as late as 2:30 a.m. They should just be called "not so quiet hours". I will give the campground high marks on the camp store (the only place where COVID guidelines were enforced), and the quality if the firewood. Sometimes campground firewood can be pretty hit-or-miss, but the firewood here was plentiful for the price and was good quality, making keeping your fire alive pretty easy.
