Local distillery and small family business. We got a tour and were impressed that our guide was willing to do the tour with just the two of us. Two other people did arrive just a minute after we started and they were able to get integrated into our group. Our guide gave us fantastic info and even let us smell what they were currently working on. He also answered my many, many questions about the complexities of working so close to the state boarder (I was so curious!). The people who were also on our tour really tried to stir the pot by asking questions about local brewery drama. However, our guide was incredibly gracious and spoke kindly about all his local competitors. I could definitiely see the grit it takes to be a small local producer. We got to see the barrel room and the amount of work it takes to produce and manage all that inventory seems like a lot. After we took our tour, we sampled some of the offerings. They had whiskey, gin, vodka, rum, brandy, and perhaps something else. Much of what they had was quite strong, and really nice quality. I ended up getting some of the golden rum and a couple of other smaller things. This is definitely worth a stop in. Stopped in to see what local distillery was up to. Glad we did! Got a tour and tasting and some great info and conversation! We were greeted as soon as we came in. They took us right back into store room for tour. Staff was very informative and answered any questions we had. Got to see how process works and how the barrels are stored and for how long. Neat place and they are on the right road. We came here last week but didn't have much time so we came back. This time we got to speak to one of the distillers and it made a difference. Their primary mash for whiskey is a wheated mash; they also have a high-rye bourbon, a Kentucky white dog, and a whiskey finished in maple syrup barrels. Then you have their vodka, gin and rum. Nothing was bad and some was really good. My favorite was their cask strength bourbon: about 120 proof and very good. With a wheated bourbon it wasn't a smashing hug and it was full of flavor. read more

What a fun stop! Warmly greeted and offered a personal tour of the distillery (which was currently processing the bourbon) including the barrel warehouse. Answered all our questions with humility and insight. Then the tasting. Generously let us try any of the products. Again, insightful commentary and joyfully shared his passion. Just left Lost State after our first time visiting. We were immediately greeted and asked if we'd like a tour and tasting - of course we said yes! Joe took us on an informational tour, explaining the process and barrels. He then spent time with us to taste each individual spirit and told us about each one in detail. We ended up leaving with (more than) a case! Note if you buy a case, you get another bottle free! Great experience and will come back when in Bristol/order when they are available in our home state. Stopped in here while on vacation and was immediately greeted by the head distiller who offered to take us on a tour. They had just finished making a lot of hand sanitizer for the local school district and were back to distilling. We got a crash course in what it takes to make all kinds of liquor from vodka, rum to bourbon/whiskey. He even toon the time to explain something when we had a question. The barrel room was something to behold as he explained about charring on the inside for some liquors to just letting the others soak into the barrel. We had a little tasting of some of the libations afterwards and got both Christmas gifts for family members and some for personal use.
