Nice small restaurant includes bar and $CAD 14.00 AYCE lunch buffet. Clean tables, and authentic background music, with a light patronage made for an excellent Business lunch The buffet was small, and missing some of the staples like Sag Paneer, but I appreciated the goat, beef, and butter chicken curry. Pan was fresh and hot on the table when we returned from the buffet, where I was very impressed to find mango chutney, which I love but is often missing (probably expensive on an AYCE buffet) I would defiantly return, and I recommend it! read more

Legit Indian food! My go-to takeout Indian place. We've probably had half of the things available on their menu lol! Everything is pretty solid. Some of our favourites are mutter paneer, beef curry, lamb vindaloo, chicken madras, butter chicken, mushroom mutter, biryani. Also do yourself a gigantic favour and order the Aloo Kulcha!! Basically naan stuffed with spiced potatoes. So delicious and worth extra cost but very filling :) Service is friendly, prices are reasonable and portions are large. Family owned place so I like to support them. Can't go wrong with this option. Their dishes have so much flavour!! read more

Takeout - terrible experience, rude staff on the phone, I was under the impression they were crazy busy on a Friday evening especially after they said 45 minutes...... I showed up there was one table, my food had clearly been sitting A WHILE the bag the pakoras were in had ripped so Pakoras everywhere. Lukewarm, watered down sauce. As far as Indian food goes, this is fairly solid. I got the lamb korma, garlic naan, beef samosa, and aloo gobi. The flavor of the lamb korma was good, but I wish that the sauce was thicker. I couldn't taste much of the garlic ok the garlic naan, but it still wasn't bad. The beef samosa was alright, nothing great and I probably wouldn't order it again. The aloo gobi was ok, but not quite the flavor I'm looking for an an aloo gobi. Still, it was better than the previous Indian restaurant I ate at here in Calgary. Bottom line, the food here is nothing special, but should at least satisfy your Indian food cravings. read more

When I asked a friend who immigrated here from India a few years ago where they go to get good Indian food, they recommended Lotus. So when the family needed to order some takeout during the Covid-19 quarantine, I figured we should give it a try. We ordered our usual favorites, and though the recipes were slightly different than our old takeout place, they were all still yummy. The butter chicken was different - the sauce was runnier and sweeter, but it was really really good. The naan was huge and fresh, and the large rice was a big portion. I could tell the Beef Vindaloo was going to be really spicy as soon as I opened the lid, which my husband was going to love (and he did). The aloo ghobi was the only dish that wasn't my favorite because it didn't contain onions and it wasn't as saucy as I normally like, but it was certainly fine. Overall, I'm really glad we tried this (relatively) new local favorite and supported a local business. read more

Yes! I have been looking for a good, local, Indian restaurant since I moved here 11 years ago - this is, most definitely it. Tasty veggie samosas, with good texture and encased in a crispy pastry with no hint of greasiness. Good onion bhaji and pappadums. Delicately spiced saag paneer, creamy chicken tikka masala, and a more robust, but very tender lamb bhuna enhanced with a lovely saffron rice; all extremely well executed and nicely presented. And the naan bread is absolutely the best. The portions are generous and there was plenty to take home and enjoy another day. Pleasant service and a quiet atmosphere (Sunday evening, other times may be busier). I will definitely return often. read more

I was craving some Indian food and I decided to stop by this place for lunch. I took a look at the lunch buffet but since I'm vegetarian with a dairy allergy - there was only one item on the buffet for me so I opted to get some takeout. I ordered the vegetable samosas, eggplant dish, vegetable curry dish, vegetable noodles, roti and garlic naan ( I wanted leftovers for dinner). They have an grand opening discount of 15% right now until December 31st. The food was very reasonable - my total bill was under $35. When the food was ready, I was also offered a container for some free dessert or food from the buffet - I decided to try some of the zucchini curry. The food was very good - my favourites was the eggplant dish and the vegetable noodles. I will definitely get takeout from them again. read more

Butter chicken tastes like Campbell's soup. Not at all flavourful. Curry is very soupy and the wait for pickup was very long. Ordered two chicken dishes the other was chicken Korma it was extremely spicy and the chicken in both dishes was so dry. I have ordered from here a few times and this will sadly be my last. read more

This food was incredibly good. Got the butter chicken the aloo parata, Chana masala. All way above expectations. Good value. Great food.

No fuss - just good, honest, decent 'western' Indian food. Vindaloo was well flavoured and nice and hot, as it should be, but so often isn't in western Canada. Perhaps a bit pricey but that's Calgary for you. For four of us, if we'd all had a drink or two, a side dish or two and pappadums, the meal would have come in at about $200, which is a lot for a curry not served in a swanky downtown restaurant. As it was we 'economised' slightly and kept it to $110. read more

I walked at 1:40 PM on a weekend place was empty (not a good sign) stood there for 5 minutes and did not get seated. FINALLY the host came out very unfriendly...told me buffet is closed even though I had 15 minutes to spare. VERY BAD SERVICE. I went to Tandoori Grill nor that far from them and service was fantastic and food was awesome. So never going back to this place. read more

Decided to try this place out as it is only a few minutes from our house. We ordered the butter chicken and tikka masala. The butter chicken was different than I've usually had. It was sweeter but it was tasty. The chicken was pretty tender but there were some dry pieces. The tikka masala had a punch of flavour and a tiny bit of spice (which I like) We also got a garlic naan and a butter naan. Me and hubs barely got any as our kids devoured them all up. We really enjoyed our meals and will definitely be back to try out more items on the menu. read more

Terrific local Restaurant. Last night we decided to give the Lotus a try. We have not been back to this location since the Blue House closed. First off, the aroma that you experience when you enter the door is very pleasant. The owners have redone the decor and layout very well, and it is now very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and efficient, and the music and atmosphere make the place inviting. The naan bread is outstanding. We ordered the butter chicken, a nine vegetable curry dish and the saffron rice. All of them were served hot and very tasty. I really think that this is one of the best new restaurants that has opened in this part of the NW for some time. Dining in was a real good experience, and we also noted that they were doing a very active takeout business as well. This was some of the freshest and best prepared Indian food we have had for some time. read more

Just opened 3 or 4 days ago! I get to be the first to review! First of all, it's been agony,awaiting the opening, but a place worth waiting for is . . . Well, worth waiting. The renovations to the former Blue House are extensive. The inside is completely refreshed, and so is the kitchen, with extensive renovations that prolonged the project, the manager apologetically explained. No apology needed! The beef samosas were delicious, and were a generous size. I was also treated to some other appetizery bits--some kind of chicken as well as a house made lamb sausage. Wow! Really nice, both. For the main event, chicken korma on coconut rice with garlic naan bread. Well to put it simply, I'll tell you this is Namskar quality level (though the rice was better than I remember at Namskar). As if that wasn't compelling enough, it's close by right in my neighborhood--19th street and Northmount drive (northwest). I can see I'm gonna be hooked. Value for money was excellent. Service was efficient, friendly and eager to please. Gosh, I just don't know when I'll ever get to my former favorite, the Namskar, now! This place deserves to enjoy every success. If you're in the neighborhood, how can you resist?! And if you're farther away, it's worth the drive to Charleswood. read more

My friend and I were around the area and craved some Indian food. The amazing smell as soon as you walk in totally made us stay. My friend went crazy with their lunch buffet, good variety and everything was delicious. I'm vegan, but nothing stopped me from enjoying the lentil curry and a main dish of eggplant (Baingan Bharta)... absolutely amazing! We're definitely going back :) read more

I just started using "Skip the dishes" delivery service to extend my meal options. Wow am I ever glad! I went wild and ordered a lot from Lotus this evening! I ordered the 1: Kachumber salad (great little refreshing bite when sprinkled all over your plate or on its own). 2: Chiken tikka masala- this is one of the best I've had in Calgary and lots of chicken. 3:Mushroom mutter- peas and mushrooms yum! Peas give it a tiny bit of sweetness which when you have lots of dishes was a refreshing note. 4: Aloo gobi- yum! Curried cauliflower and tasty roasted potatoes. One of my go to dishes anywhere. 5: Chana masala- Basically curried chick peas. A dish easy to ruin, but not here. Really like this one. 6: Vegetable Jalfri - I felt I needed more vegetables, so this was a good dish for that. Great addition if you are having a vegetarian over (4, 5 and 6 would be a good mix for that purpose actually). 7: Beef Biryani- this one was different than I expected. I'm used to beef in a curry sauce but this was more like a rice dish. We decided to keep this one untouched other than to have a taste of it as it's now lunch tomorrow with naan and raita. So good! 8: Saffron rice - nice base for the saucy dishes, not over cooked or mushy. Just right. 9: Garlic naan- again, wonderful surprise. Most naan I get in restaurants is thick and "pita-like". This was thin and a bit chewy which made tearing a small piece off and using it as a utensil really good. 10: Mixed pickle- this has an amazing flavour but is salty. I found myself adding it to bites of everything. 11: Afgani Malai kabob- Best for last! This was super good! From being a kid here and getting lamb with mint jelly as a kid, I hesitate with anything "mint", yeah no worries here. The sauce has mint in it but the dish as a whole was reminiscent but different version of a Greek chicken souvlaki, and wow was is ever good! If you like any sort of yogurt marinated chicken skewer, this is one to try. Super happy I did. Conclusion: In a nut shell; this is fantastic food for the price. I was so happy to go outside my usual haunts, that I even called them and asked the person to thank the kitchen staff on my behalf for a wonderful meal. People always call to complain, but I can tell you from my own 6 years as a cook that it's very gratifying at the end of a busy dinner rush to have someone go out of their way to let you know your efforts weren't wasted. It was sooo worth travelling across town for! I tried everything in the buffet...well, everything that was gluten free...that was 12 out of 14 dishes! I loved every bite. You really have to come for the buffet, it is an excellent way to get an overall taste...beef, goat, numerous ways to serve chicken, veggies, salads and even desserts and a rice flour cracker that is crispy, delicious & fun to eat. We had the pleasure of dining at the Lotus tonight. Everything we tried was exceptionally delicious, plentiful and very reasonably priced. All that we sampled I would recommend: paneer pakora, chicken tikka masala, beef vindaloo, dahl makhani and saffron rice. The salted lassi was the best I've ever had!! The interior has been renovated and is very tasteful and relaxing. The staff seemed very kind and attentive. I'm thrilled that it's in my neighbourhood and it will certainly be our favourite "local" spot for Indian cuisine!! read more

Ordered from Lotus on New Year's Eve and was very happy with the food. Beef korma was outstanding while butter chicken, Chana masala and aloo gobi were at least as good as Green Chile, my old go-to takeout place. Will definitely be coming back to Lotus soon. read more
