This is a Kokomo institution. It has been open since 1937 and serves great food. While a coney dog is always a treat, you must try the hamburger bake. The Bake is hot dog-shaped burger served in a hot dog bun with mustard and onions, although you can dress it however you like. This is set up like a diner and the people are very friendly. Locals only type joint, good "bake" basically a Coney Island with out the hot dog. Greek Salad I ordered was disappointing. No Pepperoncini peppers, no Green Peppers, no Kalamata olives, little to no meat or feta cheese. Could have used a shake or to of Oregano, very bland. My daughter and I were visiting family in town and I wanted to take her to a place that was near and dear to my heart and a place I used to visit often when I lived in Kokomo. We sat down and were served promptly by the nicest servers. They all complimented my little girl and were referring to her as a little princess. I ordered a couple of bakes and my kiddo ordered a plain hot dog and we shared an order of fries. The bakes were delightful as always and the fries were hot, crispy, and delicious. The kiddo loved her hot dog. This place is a gem. It always has been and I hope it will always be. Two drinks and an entire lunch and we were both stuffed for about $12. Can't beat that. I absolutely love Louie's, it's a Kokomo staple and hopefully always will be. It's my go to for chili cheese dogs, and my husband loves the bakes. The service is great it's usually teenage girls and they work their butts off. I have always had fast friendly service. I am speculating that most of the glowing reviews can be attributed to nostalgia rather than actual quality. Louie's has been operating in Kokomo a very long time, with many people stopping by the old downtown Coney Island for bottled cokes, coneys, and bakes served by a local Greek family. In my opinion, the service and food of today's Louie's Coney Island are just okay. Our server seemed to be confused easily and got mixed up on who ordered what. Our bill was written on a post it note and stained with food. The food was hot, but not especially yummy. Lots of onions and bread, little meat. Sauce was rather bland. The restaurant itself was not especially clean feeling, with unswept floors and unwiped tables, overflowing trash in the bathrooms. Went away disappointed. read more

Louie's is everything you want in a classic diner setting. Staff is always friendly and helpful, the food is typical grill and fryer stuff but it always tastes great and is made to order with love. Every table is full almost every time I go, but the service is quick. They are famous for their Bakes which are basically hotdog shaped hamburger meat that is seasoned with spices and garlic, topped off with a sauce, onions, and mustard but of course you can order them how you like. Two is a perfect amount but I usually get three with a side of fries or onion rings. Their chili cheese dogs and burgers are also tasty. The fried pickle spears are nice as well. I have been eating here since I was a kid and I love it even more every time I come. When they were located downtown, it was such an exciting treat to get a coke in a bottle and they still nostalgically carry them (their fountain cokes are great, as well). Their bakes are garlicky goodness, like a hamburger in hot dog form. You can add cheese (shredded or melty) and they come topped with mustard, coney sauce, and onions (if you wish). Their coney dogs are the same and I typically get one of each. Their seasoned fries are excellent and my husband loves the mozzarella sticks. The service is SO fast here at this family run establishment, even on the busiest days, where their tables and drive-thru line are packed! They take your order on post-it notes, which is very mom-and-pop. My mom says their breakfast sandwiches are equally amazing. I don't live in Kokomo anymore but this is my go-to spot with the family when in town because it's difficult to find a place that everyone equally loves so much! Great Service, great prices too! If you're looking for a quick meal, fairly priced and appreciate good service, this is your spot. All the servers were very friendly. The coneys were just about right, with a simple sauce flavor that's somewhat runny, chopped onions and an appropriate amount of yellow mustard. The feta fries are pretty awesome. The onion rings were the chopped type, not my favorite, but that's just my preference. Contrary to other opinions, I found the menu to be well laid out and quite simple to understand. So a "Coney Island" is a type of chili dog that was invented by Greeks in Detroit. You'll generally find them around Detroit--Kokomo is probably the southernmost extremity of the "Coney Island" region. (strange as that may seem--one would think Coney Island... New York... but one would be wrong) Though, you can find them in Greek areas like Tarpon Springs. This particular Coney Island has a pretty long history and pretty good chili dogs (conies). They serve them to you on baking paper--no plates here. They also have a pretty unique dish here. They call them "baked hamburgers". What they are are oblong beef patties spiced with cardamom and "baked" in tomato sauce in pans. For those of you familiar with Greek cooking these are called souzoukakia. My grandma makes them and they're great. Even here, with chili and cheese on top of them, they're pretty good. The sides are good here, too. The pies are probably worth skipping. But if you're driving through Kokomo, you should stop in. read more

On our way back from South Bend, I yelped around for a good place to stop in for lunch. This place stuck out to me because of their interesting choice of menu. Famous for their bakes (baked hamburger on a roll), we just simply had to try them. Delicious! Like potato chips, you cant just have one! After two bakes and a side of cheese fries I was stuffed. Most of my family still lives in Kokomo, Indiana. When I visit it is a ritual that I visit Louie's Coney Island before I had back to Cali. There is nothing that I have eaten that compares to it. I have tried to recreate it in my home to no avail. If they could freeze and ship to me I wouldn't know what to do with myself. When I am home I go on a world tour of places I can't eat on the West Coast. White Castles, Rally's, Peking Garden (for the crab rangoon) and Louie's Coney Island! The sad thing is that for the longest time I didn't even know this place existed while living in Kokomo. I am born and raised here (with a brief stint in Mississippi) but didn't know about this place until much later. I alway get the baked hamburgers with chili sauce and cheese (melted cheese for me) and the hot dogs with chili sauce and cheese (also melted only for me.) You can get them with shredded cheese, but to me it is not the same. I can eat a plethora of these. (First time I used plethora in a review, i am proud of myself!!) It is sad when I leave because I know i won't be able to eat them again until I make it back to Indiana. On the bright side (I guess) It is impossble for me to get burned out of eating them because I get them so rarely. I know they had a booth in the Dome where the Indianapolis Colts play. Not sure if they are in the new stadium. Would be cool if they are. I am not really doing justice for this place.
