I've been going to Louie's P&R since I was a kid. I would go in with my dad on Saturdays to get lunchmeat and sandwiches. Lunch meat trays from Louie's have always been a staple at family parties. I still go in with him any time I'm visiting my parents. The shop has new owners, but so far I've still been happy with the quality of the shop. There are also a smattering of Italian good that you can shop while visiting the store. Louie's is a Herrin staple and I'd highly recommend it if you are look for lunch when you are in town. read more

Louie's is part deli, part store with hard-to-find Italian products/ingredients, and part cafe. Their deli makes great lunchmeat sandwiches, but my favorite is their Italian beef. They also serve amazing chicken and dumplings once a week, I believe on Fridays! When you're there, make sure to pick up the famous Italian beef seasoning for making Italian beef in the crockpot at home. There's nothing else out there like it!! read more

I am so excited I found this Italian deli. It's adorable. Walking in is cool, this deli has been here forever. They have a book of photos by the deli of the original owner. Really cool. The two ladies working at the deli were upbeat and professional. Offering suggestions. Letting me know that every Friday & Saturday they have specials. Good to know. The Italian beef is the only sandwich you should get in my opinion. It's amazing, and I tried three sandwiches today. Not that the other two weren't good (they were). But the Italian beef is much much better! Ask for extra peppers. In my opinion. They did not have canoli's when I went. However, they let me know that they make them around 3:30-4:00 p.m. Helpful. They have fountain drinks, and a place to sit and eat. I very much enjoyed this place. I'm not sure why it has lower reviews on here. It's got 5 stars with 44 reviews on trip advisor. read more

Well worth a wait. I'm not a sandwich lover, but their creations are worth​ the 40 mile round trip. Their cannolis alone are worth a drive - perfect crisp tube and the ricotta filling is ambrosia - not too sweet with a wonderful flavor. Rich got the meatball sub and it _might_ have been better with a bit more sauce and a touch of fresh of basil, but it's the best we've had. My choice was their much-lauded Italian beef sandwich. There was an abundant amount of juicy beef (not the nasty sliced deli stuff, but more like a pot roast subtly seasoned, and cooked until it falls apart) and two pepperoncini on top. I'd have preferred the peppers sliced rather than whole, but the combination of beef and pepper was brilliant. We also bought some brats and sausage witch was made by the woman I talked to as we entered. Can't wait to try them. Great Italian deli in Southern IL! We had their Italian sausage and Salameat Sausage. While the Italian sausage was good, the Salameat sausage was Great! We also bought some cappicola and mortadella which were both good. I just wish they sold Italian bread, like D'amato's. I'm glad I found Louie's P & R! read more

Great Deli with the freshist meat; It needs more seating and a faster lunch service

I came around 11:30 to avoid the lunch rush. Found a table with no trouble and there was minimal wait (less than 3 minutes) for food. I got the Italian beef. It was deliciously flavored and larger than I had imagined. The cannoli is what lead me to post a review though. It's out of this world. It's rich and creamy and the shell was perfect! I have to say, foremost, that I LOVE Louie's. I love the quality and the prices. I will ALWAYS choose a small business first and foremost. However, tonight I came in around 5:15-5:30pm and bought two Ribeyes, as did the woman in line before me. She bought 3 ribeyes, and when they were weighed they were $5.99 per pound. The young guy behind the counter wrapped up her purchase, totaling approximately $18 and some change, and asked what I would like. I asked about meat specials, and he said they had none, but that Ribeyes were $10.95 per pound. I asked if that was what the woman before me ordered, as they looked good, and he confirmed that yes, she ordered the Ribeyes. He sliced them at a 1inch cut, and I ordered two of them. They rang up at $10.95/lb. I asked him why mine were $10.95/lb while hers were $5.99/lb, and he vehemently denied that hers were a lesser price. I needed the steaks, and I still want to support local business in Herrin, but if the employees are going to selectively give discounts or overcharge customers, I won't have a choice but to drive to Small's in Marion. I don't understand why we were charged very, very different prices when we ordered the exact same item. I hope someone can shed light on this situation because I simply don't understand why this woman received such a significant discount while I was made to pay full price. And please note, I am GLAD to pay full price because its worth it, but I want the owners of Louie's to know that you have some employees who are pricing your products for you, instead of abiding by the prices you've set.
