I have been going to Dr. Asuncion for about 30 years or so and cannot say enough about his kindness…read moreand compassion for his patients. I hope I never have to find another PCP because no one in my opinion could replace him.

Is it a natural part of the passage of life when you review more medical practices than night…read moreclubs? Sigh.... If you want a doctor who is not just knowledgable & caring, but also has a fabulous dry wit sense of humor, then Dr. Christopher Asuncion is your man. His "one liners" make going to the doctor a much more relaxed experience. My using Dr. A as a Primary Physician began years ago when my internist retired. A number of people at work went to a large, well established group in the Beach General corridor. So that's the practice I chose. Gradually everyone at work gravitated to Dr. A, a member of that practice at the time. When he left to found Mid-Atlantic Family Medicine, we all followed him. Dr. Asuncion isn't the type of Doctor you feel is rushing you out of the exam room. He will listen to your ailments & symptoms as long as you want to talk. And he remembers not just your medical conditions but also your family, interests & activities. Whenever I have one of my semi-regular sinus infections he will make sure that his staff works me into his always full schedule. And he will do his best to knock it out in the shortest time possible, especially if I have an important upcoming activity planned. It's quite humorous when he walks in the room & the first thing he says is "Got it again?" His decisions regarding whether you should be referred to a specialist for a newly diagnosed condition are prompt & correct. I've always been very happy with his specialist choices. An on-site lab technician eliminates the hassle of having to go to a hospital for blood work. Electronic transmission of prescriptions eliminates the need to carry a script to the pharmacy & make a return trip to pick it up, Access to the doctor is extremely easy. He is available by email, either responding by email or having his nurse or the office staff call. All are responsive & pleasant. The only down side to a one man family medicine practice is that he does need vacations & time off. His PA handles the chores in his absence. But of course I prefer Dr. A. The office is located in the Bon Secours Medical Building off South Plaza Trail, just north of Princess Anne Road. Both the building and the office convey the feelings of new, nicely decorated, clean & well lit. The spacious glass walls offer one an outside view that makes waiting in an exam room much more acceptable that four closed in walls. And the exam rooms are a nice size, rather than claustrophobic. Parking is plentiful and laid out so that it's always an extremely short walk to the entrance. Regular parking spaces are just as convenient as the handicapped slots. There is a covered drive-thru at the entrance, so one can drive an elderly or infirm patient directly to the door. Wheel chairs are available in the building lobby for their further use. Walk into the door at Mid-Atlantic Family Medicine and you are greeted pleasantly by your name. (Does this mean I go to the doctor too often?) It's a much more pleasant experience than the check-in ogre's at some medical practices who give one the feeling that you are interfering with their day. There must be a check-in ogre school, since so many have the same technique. Now I'm thinking of the one liner Dr. A would come up with if he read this review. I'm pretty certain I know exactly what it would be. So I'll just close on a serious note. Thank you for taking care of us Dr. A. You are very much appreciated.

My wife has been a patient at this location of Sentara Family Medicine Physicians for over ten…read moreyears. There has never been an issue with quality of care as the doctors and staff are all competent and knowledgeable. Most of the doctors' practices are located on the third floor of the Providence Professional Center building with a few more located on the first floor along with the laboratory and testing center. Wait times are generally pretty reasonable as the doctors and support staff are all professional, personable and efficient. As I stated previously, we have been satisfied with the quality of care my wife has received here over the years. Her doctor and staff communicate effectively via the Sentara MyChart website and app as well as over the phone. The reason I am rating the practice at only three stars is because it is very difficult to get an appointment in a timely manner. Appointment lead times are often measured in months and it is pretty much impossible to see a doctor when you really need one the same day or the following day. If you choose to become a patient of this practice you can pretty much plan on being seen for scheduled chronic care or routine scheduled appointments but if you are sick or injured and need healthcare the same day or even the same week you will need to visit one of the area urgent care facilities. Another related issue is that if you can't make a scheduled appointment and need to reschedule it will usually be at least another two months to get another appointment. The building is clean and modern, the facility is comfortable and well equipped. The private parking lot can get pretty full but we have always been able to find an empty space. Exiting to Providence Road is no issue if you are making a right turn but if you want to go left towards Kempsville Road you may have some issues with traffic at busy times of the day.

I began seeing Sarah Latuga, PAC, in May 2024, but I did not feel that my health concerns were…read morelistened to as a whole. When I brought up serious physical symptoms, including foot drop that resulted in multiple falls, they were dismissed and blamed on me "not paying attention." I was told all my symptoms were in my head due to my mental health. I was also experiencing syncope (fainting) episodes, but it took her FOUR months just to update my neurology referral to include syncope alongside my migraines. Because of her delay in updating the clinical notes, the neurology office was unable to move my appointment any sooner, forcing me to wait the entire time for a "migraine" appointment versus the more serious syncope. Because my symptoms were not thoroughly investigated, my care was significantly delayed. It took six months after leaving her care to finally receive a proper diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I am sharing this so other patients are aware of my experience with symptom dismissal, patient blaming and administrative delays by this provider. If you want to be heard, do NOT come here. I even tried switching providers in the office, received an appointment with another PCP, and when I spoke to the practice manager, she took the appointment away because they "don't do that here." She was also completely unhelpful. Save your time and find a better location.

I've been here twice because of the location & lower wait time. However, they're not thorough and…read moreyou'll likely see a PA, not a doctor. On this visit, I went in with fever & stomach pain, they tested me for the flu, which I surprisingly had. They didn't examine me and rushed me out the door with unreadable patient instructions due to low ink in their printer. (Seriously, the printer at the front desk worked fine, so just print them again.) Also, I had to go back in and ask a question after I left, because they rushed me out so quickly. Comparing this to a visit years back at Patient First, it was inadequate. Patient First examined me thoroughly. They took my blood, did a breathing treatment, etc. If you're looking for convenience and a quick test, this is your place. If you want a proper thorough examination, this place likely isn't for you. I hope AFC reads this, takes it to heart and makes improvements.

I went here because i noticed they were a new office. So i figured the line and wait would be…read moreshorter. I was right. The wait was less than 20 minutes, which i was happy about. There weren't to many people inside. After i sat down everybody and their mama showed up. So it was perfect timing. The nurse i had was very nice. We chatted and she helped me get checked in for the Dr. She also took my xrays. The Dr. was nice but i don't feel she was listening to what i was saying. I was passing kidney stones, so i was in horrible pain. Kidney stones are no joke. It felt like giving birth. I needed help. The doctor was gonna send me home with motrin 600mg so i asked for a shot of toradol, because she wasn't willing to give me anything else. I absolutely understand people are abusing pain killers, but they should deal with each patient accordingly. I took the shot in hopes that it would take the edge off. It did help for about an 3 hours, but after it wore off i went another few days in severe pain waiting to be seen by my family doctor. I went to urgent care to avoid paying the high emergency room fees. It was a waste of money because i feel i should've been given something to help me pass it and a pain killer of some sort. Other than that. The office was clean and the staff was nice. People don't come to urgent care to be given motrin. I'd recommend going to the E.R if your in serious pain because you won't get far at these kinds of places. If its something basic this is a better option to avoid long waits at the E.R. I also recommend wearing a mask. People were coughing and no one in the waiting room was wearing mask. So definitely protect yourself when waiting. All in all it could have been a better experience, but it wasn't the worst. I'd probably return if its for a cold or something minor.
