UPDATE NEW OWNERS: Lous garage use to be a great place to take your car to get inspected or worked on. That is until George the owner for some years sold the business to his mechanic "Pedros". Pedros is a nice man, but Pedros brought in a woman who rumor is his ex-wife, and this lady is running the business and chasing customers right out of the door. I don't know where she gets her pricing but If I wanted to get my BMW worked on and pay what she charges, I would take it to the BMW garage. She is absolutely ridiculous in her prices. Rear brakes and inspection were $900.00 dollars? I get it you want to make money, but to jack prices up and pass the cost of buying a new business on to your customers with such inflated rates is just plain wrong and not very smart. Pedros better get rid of his ex-wife and wise up or they will all be looking for a new job. I for one will not be going back there and all of my friends whom I have recommended to go there are now also going elsewhere. Big liar, the guy did not repair my car in the right way as promised and charged more expensive than other auto shops in pittsburgh like brake pedals and many kinds of belts. Warning: be careful of parking around this shop. They might tow your car without notification and camouflage its private parking lot as public one because there are no signs around here. I love Lou's! couple days ago was my first time going there because of an high estimate for my cars damage, I decided to try a body shop nearby. I called Lou's and they quickly agreed to check out my car. The next day they gave me an estimate that's 1/3 of the price that the other shop gave me. I'm a fan! I needed to get a state inspection and an oil change. They charged less than $70 for the inspection and the standard rate for my oil change (my car only takes synthetic oil, so it's typically around $60.) I called to schedule the inspection and they said to just bring it in whenever. They got my car in right away and were done in an hour. All the guys there were extremely friendly and joke around with you quite a bit. They are much cheaper than the alternatives nearby and are extremely nice. They also run the Citgo gas station on Centre which still has full-service pumps. When someone pulled up to the full-service pump the guy inside (might have been the owner) told him to go around to the self-service pumps because it would be cheaper for him unless he wanted full-service (which most people don't even realize is full-service). These guys definitely aren't trying to squeeze money out of you. read more

Charged me $600 for something that didn't even need fixed and if it did, should've only costed $200 at most places. Went to him in a pinch, if you think he's giving you fair price you haven't looked anywhere else! There are three or four other repair shops next to him just go there instead!! Knew a little bit about cars, had Lou look at it and he said I needed 4 new brake pads and 4 new rotors. Barely needed two new brake pads total. Would've charged well over $400, fixed it myself for $25. Everyone's trying to make a living, happy I didn't let him scam me though. I'm a fan only because Lou's was used as a location setting for the 2012 movie: Jack Reacher. There's a scene where Reacher is on the phone at a gas station and in the background is a wrecker with Lou's phone number on it. This must have gotten past the director and producers as typically any visible phone number (or phone number recited) always starts with 555. Hit a huge pothole and gave myself a flat tire. Being that is just a few days before Christmas, I was worried about being able to get It fixed quickly. The next day, I called Lou's. After explaining my situation he simply said we can take care of it and to bring my car in. Once I got to Lou's, they helped me right away. I bent my rim a little, so they fixed It with sealant. They filled up my tire and put it back on my car. All this was done while I waited and I was charged $20, which was less than I expected! They also let me know that my breaks would need changed soon. read more

Won't ever go to another mechanic in Pittsburgh. I called them 11:30 Saturday regarding my car needing to be towed to a shop. They closed at noon but said they would look at it Monday for me since they would be closed the rest of the weekend. They called me by 8:30 Monday morning with a diagnosis (bad alternator) and a quote. I said go for it and since my inspection expired in a couple weeks to add that too. They called me within an hour to let me know the results of my inspection (and another quote as a result). Again, told them to go on and they called me by 12:30. So from dropping it off during closing hours to them opening Monday it literally took them only 4 hours to take a look at my car, inspect/emissions, replace the alternator and battery, and do front brakes and rotors. While I would not have liked to spend the money, the prices were reasonable and the service was absolutely excellent. They even showed me the old rotors and offered to let me come see how bad they were before pulling them off the car to prove it. All around a good place. read more
