But as someone who knows how hard it is to find the perfect salon, I knew it was important to let the community know about a little salon in Fairport. I have had the worst luck with salons in the past. I've never stayed in one place for longer than five years as an adult. The closest I got to that was the salon I went to in middle school and high school, where my mom and sister went as well. But that ended ten days before my high school graduation, where my request to have my hair "just dusting my shoulders" resulted in a chin length blunt bob that poofed out when dry, making me look like a mushroom wearing a graduation cap. As I was stylistically challenged (and still am, to a good extent), you can imagine how well this worked out for me. I bounced around from one fancy salon to the next in college, coming home on breaks for haircuts and not having any idea how to maintain my new look. I started going to Cuts International a solid two years before I moved back to Rochester, and I'm proud to say that it's my longest salon relationship ever. Ever since I started seeing Amelia for my hair needs, I have walked away happy and confident that I can replicate what was done to me during the styling process. Amelia is very intuitive and knows what will work for me and what won't. Last year I decided I wanted highlights to camouflage the increasing number of gray hairs and she helped me pick out a color that would look good against my dark hair and would mask the grays as best we could. Instead of the traditional foil method, she used a plastic hat to pull small strands through to ensure a natural look. While this was going on, I looked just like Gollum, if Gollum were waiting to rinse out his new highlights. Everyone at the salon is friendly and enthusiastic about their clients and what they can do. Whenever I have an appointment, it's like walking into a family reunion or happy hour at Cheers. I've never once felt like a transaction here, and I have definitely felt that way at other salons. Cuts International is not only a family salon, but one that really takes the idea of family to heart. Finally, where else can you get a fancy salon quality cut and style for $26? I used to pay twice as much for other salons in the past and I'm never going to go back. You can try to entice me with fancy furniture and decor and the privilege of saying I go to your salon, but it won't work. I'm sticking with Cuts International, where I know I can maintain my new look with my meager styling skills.

They were very busy already, but instead of just turning me away, tried their best to fit me in. Emily was delightful, and the space is adorable. They treated me well, and made me feel so comfortable. The shop has been open for 30 years, and it sounds like most of the staff have been together for some time. I was done quickly, but looked great and felt so much better about the day, even having overlapped with a color appointment. Looking for a local barbershop I came across Altered Image, I called before coming in an hour in advance, was told that they had barbers available anytime no appointment was necessary. They took my brother, paid a ridiculous $30+$10 (TIP) for his shape-up, but again, I support it They, then told me at 10:30AM they could get me in the chair by 11:30AM. Already I'm thinking, an hour wait and there are FOUR barbers sitting down texting and chatting not working at all? FINE. I waited the hour plus more. 11:50AM someone ELSE comes in and gets sat in front of me. At this point i said, I've been here for almost two hours now with an appt for 11:30 and people are still walking in and sitting in front of me? They just allow you to wait in their lobby and ignore you until you don't have a choice but to get up and to somewhere else! GO TO ANY OTHER BARBERSHOP! They will get you in right away and treat you GREAT! This barbershop will have you wait HOURS, IGNORE YOU, All while they sit on their phones to make sure their wives aren't cheating on them back at their studio apartments. Pathetic. Sad story for a small business. Side note. If this barbershop is the ONLY option that you have, do not get sat in the females chair, she will butcher your hair for practice.

I started getting my hair cut by Mary Kay (owner) when I was a wee baby : ) I do believe she gave me my first hair cut (good bye ringlets which never grew back but thats another story for another time). These women truly care about their customers and will remember everything you say to them and chat away when you come in again. Not only are they lovely lovely ladies they have recently revamped the studio and it looks gorgeous. Mary Kay and all the other ladies there do a great job with cuts, styling and any dye jobs. (my mom went to Mary Kay for close to 20 years and I've never spotted a grey on her : ) ) They also have a really nice selection of hair products available for purchase. Typically they have a jewelry selection or purse selection too! It always rotates which is a treat! They are located behind the Fairport Public Library so you can use the garage their for easy access parking.

Most importantly, seven years ago Laura told my wife that her hair did not look right and she may have a female problem. Reenie went to the doctor and had breast cancer. I feel Laura saved her life. Laura said that her stylists are trained to be aware of changes in a person's hair and scalp and advise the client accordingly. Thank you! The salon is friendly and all the stylists are professional and personable. We went there for prom updos and the wedding party for our daughter. It's just a great place. I stood at the front desk for 5 minutes ... not a single stylist said anything to greet me. They all saw me and said nothing. I then sat down thinking ok, I'll wait until someone comes up. 2 stylists were done with their clients, came to the front desk, took care of them, and went back to their chairs. They saw me and didn't say a thing. If this place doesn't take walk-ins, they need a sign that says so. If they DO take walk-ins, then their customer service absolutely sucks. No matter what kind of business it is, a greeting of every customer walking through that door is normal. 15 minutes of time wasted just sitting there. Glad I didn't waste my money on a business with horrible customer service.
