I still remember the angst my wife and I felt when it was time to go back to work and we needed to hire a nanny. Who's going to love and take care of my child as I would. This is what we all felt going through search for the right people and we knew as soon as we met Marina we'd found the right place. Even though she was going on a big trip the very next day, she come over and sat with my mom and I. She wanted to get to know my mom, and learn what was happening with her health. She wanted make sure she had the right person on her team, who had the necessary tools to assist my mom where she needed it, but also give her the space she desired when she wanted it. Marina's team understands the word dignity. And they understand empathy. They realize that many times when they are called this may be the first time someone may have the need to have home care. The search for the right team is hard work. But Marina's team also understands the stress, fear, perhaps even anger felt by the person who needs assistance. This is a loss of freedom and control that for some, can be very difficult. It can bring emotions to light that are unexpected. The experience Marina's team brings in situations such as these reminds you that you have hired not only someone who can be there when your mom is hungry and can make her a home cooked meal, but a professional who has been there before and can help to ease those situations where there's someone who may be scared or perhaps dealing with a sense of a loss of control. Whoever does the intake will get ALL the details! What they like to eat what they don't. When they like to rest and when they are most active. What's the med schedule? Is there an exercise program? Are there therapists coming in for PT, or Occupational therapy. Once ALL of the details are understood a schedule is made and before you know it, you and your loved one will be meeting your new new caregiver. My mom was with a wonderful woman who ultimately became her right hand. She was an absolute professional who charmed my mom as well as my sisters and I. We felt lucky to have her in all of our lives. We could be with my mom whenever we wanted. There was no feeling of awkwardness or anything like that. And the amazing part, was when it was time to leave, we didn't have to worry. We new our mom was in the best possible position with that someone who we knew truly cared about our mom and her well-being. You know you've been in that spot when no one answers and the panic starts immediately?? And if we had any questions or concerns we could give my mom's caregiver a call and she'd be there to answer the phone. That alone...I know you get it. As a post script I'll also include a brief note concerning our insurance coverage. Assisting Hands did a great job of making this part easy for us. For the majority of the time they were with my mom the insurance company was fair and provided the coverage that my mom needed. However there was a very unexpected change that occurred in coverage at one point. The kind of change that makes most of us hate insurance companies....The details are unnecessary, but I want you to know that Marina and her team were staunch supporters of ours throughout the struggles we had with the carrier and we were reminded once again of the true partnership we knew we had with Assisting Hands.

They were the first to heed my call, and accepted a wide variety of insurance plans. The person over the phone was very polite. They scheduled a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to conduct an examination. Upon arrival, the nurse had necessary paperwork to record dad's vital signs. While doing such, everything noted by her seemed abnormal. My father's temperature, resting rate, beats per minute and pulse were below average. To my dismay, he was dying, but the CNA neglected to inform me about his current state of health. (I'm assuming some privacy concerns? No idea.) As if she knew what was going to occur relatively soon, the nurse instructed me to clean him (sponge bath), change his sheets, and administer his medication on a daily basis. I had absolutely no qualms about doing such but, my goodness, I could've sworn this is what Reliance's employees are paid to do, at least according to the paperwork I was handed. There was nothing more she wanted to do, other than stating a doctor would be sent by the agency to prescribe any additional medication he may need the next day. This never happened. Due to stormy weather in the area, the physician would not be able to attend to his well-being until after the showers came and went. Sadly, he never made it. My father died in his sleep three days after the nurse's last visit. The CNA barely did anything to help him. She didn't advise me to submit him into Hospice care, rather to purchase Ensure for nutritional purposes. I'm not sure as to why seeing as how he was unable to ingest anything. I'm hoping this was just an isolated incident. Watching a loved one slowly pass away isn't something I would wish upon my worst enemy.

I would NOT recommend this Agency as they are not honest about the Aides they hire. Aides do not…read morehave the training they claim to have. Also ask for full time aides and you get part time and NO notification that this is what you are getting. Do not complain about an Aide as they will not believe you. Had many issues with the employees and the Aides. Was told if you have any issues or problems just call and we will help you and fix the issues and take care of them. When you do call they get very annoyed and then do not want you as a Client any more. They cannot be trusted, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!
