I ordered the CROQUE-MONSIEUR FOREVER and my bf had the MAC'N'CHEESE CHICKYCHURRI. Both were delicious. I had been wanting to try croque-monsieur since I was a teen but there hadn't been a vegan version available to me until this trip. I know it's just a glorified grilled ham & cheese, but I just wanted to have it in France. It was just as I imagined- crispy toasted bread with ooey gooey cheese and "ham"; the perfect comfort food. I took off one star due to a botched dessert situation. We had ordered the Saint-Honore, which was still in the case but when it came time to bring our dessert, they had given it to another table. They had offered to bring it out our table while we were still eating but we asked for it to be brought out after we finished our entrees. Whatever was left were items that weren't as unique to France so it was disappointing to order a cheesecake which we could also get back in the US. If I'm rating based on the food and ambiance (without the dessert mishap), this place would definitely have 5 stars. That mishap with the dessert was a crummy way to end our meal. Oh well. Still give this place a try and enjoy their market afterwards. There were plenty of delicious things in the fridge like mock meats, tofu, cheeses and other vegan items for purchase. Also available for purchase were vegan-friendly clothing, stationary, cookbooks, shoes, and unique gifts.

(There are some other coffee shops in Paris that are similar in style, but if you *don't* eat animals and their secretions, any time you go to one of those "cool type" shops you have to settle for just a cuppa.) No! Us vegans want something to EAT, by jove. Thank God for Grounded. Everything is delicious and creatively presented, the hot chocolate is actually made with melted dark chocolate (um, SO GOOD,) and their menu is always evolving with the seasons. AMAZING food, guys. The two items we ordered were both SO good. We ordered some sort of toast that has almond butter, hazelnut butter, jam, and coconut flakes. It had the perfect amount of sweetness to satisfy a slight morning sweet tooth. The other item we ordered was the bowl of the month (or maybe it's the bowl of the week?) It, too, was wonderful, and so filling! Grounded is really cute and cozy inside, but I will say that it was HOT in this small space. Also, there isn't much seating in here. Maybe enough for 12-15 people. Still, the food here is incredible and the man working at the counter was so kind. Definitely stop in here if you can!

But have you ever dined out in a bathtub or bed?…read more At first it seems like a cute vegetarian cafe/brasserie along the canal- unassuming and fairly standard. Vegetarian dishes are the highlight here, meat and eggs can be added for extra. Then you walk upstairs and see the uniquely decorated "home" that puts a new spin on "eating in". We came for the weekend brunch 12-3pm. All orders placed at the counter consisted of a couple croissants, a light entree, a dessert, and all you can have coffee, juice, baguette, butter, and jam for 24€. We were given the pastries, and a buzzer to collect our entree and dessert when they were ready from the basement kitchen. So you'll definitely need to be with people who can walk up and down stairs while holding plates- and maybe more than one plate if someone needs to hold a spot at tables. It is pricier than other brunches nearby, but it is also a novelty and part of what you're paying for is the unlimited nature of the buffet and time you will occupy the adorably decorated but limited space.

When I asked why, she said, "They're crunchy." My eyes lit up. As a vegan I crave crunchy food because so much plant-based food is soft. Evian was right! This roll had texture. It was beautifully presented in eight pieces. Upon the first yummy bite it was apparent this was cooking at another level. The fry was perfectly light and clean. Each bite substantial. The taste memorable. I have never had a sushi roll like it and now I want to live inside the restaurant so I can have it forever. We also got five pieces of the yummy Seitan Crispy, which comes with a lovely Doenjang sauce, that is thick and flavorful. These unique, protein boosts are also cleanly fried, delectable and filling. Lastly, my husband got the small BBQ Donburi which was a bowl of rice, a flavorful bbq soy protein, and some mesclum. He loved it. We sat outside on the lovely side street and chatted with Evian who made our dinner a memorable experience. I highly recommend this restaurant and wish I could bring it back to America. Even better, open up a branch in San Francisco!

Hands down - this is the coolest and hippest spot in Paris at the moment…read more What is Freegan pony? Tucked away at the edge of Paris, you'll find this gem in the most improbable spot. The vibe here is definitely very underground and you really must come see for yourself to experience it. Freegan, a hybrid word combining "free" and "vegan", is just that. Here, volunteers salvage the leftovers from Paris' largest fruit and veggie market (Rungis) and then scramble to cook up a delicious meal with that. The menu obviously changes every day depending on what's left over, and that's the cool part. It's all vegetarian - no meat - and sometimes some grain or bread will be added to accompany your meal and give it consistency. When I was here, we had a delicious tomato soup as a starter, then a dish with couscous type grains and tomato and fried onions with a white sauce, followed by rice pudding for dessert. Once you open the door to this underground lair, you first sign up at a small table and are explained the concept, as well as given a membership card to the association. Reservations are an absolute MUST btw, as it is very popular and also seats and feeds a max of 50. (Also you need to reserve in order to know when it's open - currently it's open Friday - Monday but that could change.) Then you go to the counter and grab a cup, plate, napkin, and silverware and seat yourself. All the tables, furniture, decoration, silverware, etc is all second hand and gives it a really vintage feel. It's really an experience eating here. Btw: It can be a bit nippy in here, so make sure to bring an extra sweater and dress warmly! You then wait for the kitchen staff to call your name. One of the members of the association came over and explained the concept and the evening's menu to us, letting us know that they had put a lot of love into sorting through all the Rotten tomatoes and salvaging what they could. It was cool to have that kind of interaction with the association members/volunteers and give it a more personalized feel. I'm sure it's not an easy task concocting menus and cooking for 50! At the end, when you've finished eating, you must clear away your dirty dishes and leave them in a designated area, which will have been explained and shown to you upon entry (just like at the cafeteria). At the end, it's up to you to choose how much to pay. There is no set price, and you choose to give the amount you want. It really makes it accessible to everyone. To sum up : if you haven't been here yet, seriously what are you waiting for? This place is AWESOME. Can't wait to come back! P.S.: Don't forget to make reservations!

There were discrepancies with the opening times between what was listed on Facebook and on the webpage, so opted for an 20:00 arrival time. All signs pointed to the venue being open. However, it was closed without any notice. We later found out that due to internal management issues and licensing shortfalls they shut down (or were shut down by authorities). THE VERDICT : GIVE NOTICE to eliminate confusion and disappointment. I am surprised that no one else has bothered to mention anything, manager or visitor alike. Given the ratings, there was something special going on there - an opportunity to set an example and integrate itself into the fabrics of the community... Whatever is going on, I hope that the leaders find strength in another like-minded initiative and approach it with a greater sense of responsibility. Best, e
