Shocking behavior from the woman working at the shop today. Unsure if she's the owner or an employee but we walked in on 12/27 Friday afternoon around 4pm. We were looking around for sweaters, and the woman asked if there was a size we were looking for. I replied, "No, we're just looking around, thanks!" She proceeded to quite literally roll. her. eyes. and MOCK me "...just looking around..." and mumble a slew of other things I couldn't hear under her breath. Went In store without my dog to buy shoes, told the man working at the store my dogs size and he recommended a size up from the ones I initially had to purchase. When I got home I tried the shoes on my dog and they did not fit, they were too big. I called the to check how many days I had to exchange the product for a smaller size and was told they were final sale. The man on the phone, who said he was the owner Mark, told me they are very clear about the shoes being final sale and have signs everywhere in the store that say so as well. No one told me this and I asked where the signs were. He not only did not answer but he started maniacally laughing. No one told me anything about final sale, nor did I see a sign. When I said this, I was told that was impossible and laughed at. I have likely spent over 500 dollars at this store and am shocker and appalled by the way I was spoken to and the customer service by the owner. Absolutely shook by this experience. read more

I have what one may call an obsession with Love Thy Beast. I live in the San Francisco area and visit New York frequently, with my French Bulldog tagging along. We are fortunate to stay in the East Village during our visits and were thrilled when we discovered the shop was a short walk from our hotel. I had initially learned of the brand via a friend and purchased a bag for subway and taxi transportation purposes, we were immediately hooked! We eventually started adding coats for our chilly NYC visits, along with hoodies, and sweaters. We may literally own one of everything. In addition to some traditional dog toys, the owner has designed some of her own that are sturdy, cute, and made by women in Nepal! We add one to our collection every time we visit. In addition to top of the line bags and dog clothes, the store also carries dog food and treats with quality ingredients for your beloved four legged friend. And also very important... the customer service is always wonderful. The staff is a delight and they remember us every time we stop in... did I mention I live in the other side of the country? All I can say is WOW. I am appalled by how poorly a small business handles undelivered products and customer satisfaction. Store policy is "not responsible for lost or damaged shipments"... but if the package never got delivered (even though tracking number says it did) while having your shipment insured with USPS PRIORITY FOR UP to $100, you'll still deny your customer of the proper replacement. This is truly the first pet store I've come across that has thee most ridiculous return policy. I bought a $48 jumper in Dec, too large for my pet by 2 sizes and tags are still on. So I tried returning it yesterday to be told by the sales clerk that couldn't take it back because they have a 14 day return policy! No where was this stated on the receipt and their online size chart is wrong. they were not helpful or accommodating even though it's their fault. Purchased 2 sweaters from this store and decided I did not want them within 24 hours of purchasing only to be told I could not receive a refund for them only store credit. It seems like it is at the discretion of the sales associate or owner of the store if you can return a sweater, regardless of the item being unworn with tags. No where on the receipt is this explained. I was hung up on twice when speaking with the sales associate over the phone and I emailed the manager without any follow up. I purchased the Waterproof Rain Suit, Coral for our cockapoo because of the full coverage on the legs. With shipping and tax, the jacket was about $85. After a few weeks the button that fastens the two sides together, to make zipping easier, popped off. I was disappointed. The company offered to sew the button back on if I sent it back, so I complied. The button popped off again after the fix. I wouldn't mind the issue so much if the jacket was $30, but for $85, it's a letdown. I never heard back from the company after I alerted them the button popped off for the second time. The jacket also had plastic-like smell to it that never went away. read more

I have spent so much of my disposable income at Love Thy Beast. I can't help it!! Every time I walk in there's something that is just too sweet or fits a "need" of our pup so perfectly. Their puffer coat is the must-have coat for dogs this winter. All of their toys are so thoughtful and cute. They have a curated selection of leashes and collars. The staff actually seems to love animals, which is more than I can say for some other pet stores in the neighborhood. All of their treats are actually good for dogs and don't have a lot of filler. Great selection of bandanas and an awesome bag in a variety of sizes. Just a word on the bags: we've never had an issue on a train, but I've heard of people not being allowed on buses because the bad doesn't close entirely. You could get around it by adding a couple of snaps or Velcro or something, but good t We had to start taking a different route to School For The Dogs because every time I walked by it was a trap :) I just love it. read more

I looked them up on Yelp for a gift. Saw the good reviews. Spent over $150 on a dog bed for my friends new puppy in CT. Paid to ship it. They took it out the of box. Immediately saw it was too small. They put it back in the box. I emailed the store and didn't hear back. Called. Emailed again. Almost 2 weeks later I get a reply that dog beds are non refundable. What horrible customer service and a bad policy. How do you run a business like this with expensive items? I will never ever spend a dime here and encourage all patrons to read the fine print. Honestly, such good quality clothing and bags for pups. We've had the tote for 2 years and it doesn't wear! It's perfect for Oscar, so comfortable and he jumps right in it! The tanks and tees are so well made and soft. Customer service is absolutely amazing and incredibly responsive. I ordered the tie dye tee and sky dye tank in the same size, and as soon as I placed my order I was called and informed that I should size up in the tank. Really poor customer service. Ordered a tote for my dog on Black Friday that was just way too big for him and the only way I could exchange for the same bag in a smaller size was to pay full price. I received a very backwards explanation as to why I couldn't exchange the same bag for the same price, which technically has less material than the one I went with, especially when you can get 20% off of any item, including the very tote I purchased, when submitting an online review via the LoveThyBeast website. The owner suggested I donate the bag - what kind of sense does that make when I had been waiting for a sale to purchase something costly that I actually need? Really poor way to run a small business. My friends who buy from them were appalled and will not be shopping there again. This bag with be sold on the secondary market - eBay. read more

Update: after I ordered, Love Thy Beast reached out and apologized for my experience and offered to rush my hoodie from their fulfillment center so I could pick it up, and explained that they'd been brusque on the phone because they had customers in the store. While it definitely would have been better to have great service from the start, I appreciate companies that own their mistakes and try to resolve problems so I'm feeling a lot better about them. Update: they finally got back to me on Instagram with information, more politely, after 2 days so I was able to order. I was ready to order a hoodie during the black Friday sale but ran into a couple customer service issues that made me feel unable to support this business. First I sent a message to their Instagram asking about it, and they read but didn't reply. Then I called the shop a day later (still during the sale) and they were pretty rude when I asked about the sale (apparently you have to click a different page way down in the menu even though the Instagram post didn't say so and the main website page doesn't have anything indicating it). Then when I asked if I could buy online and pick up in the store, they said the sale was online only. Not sure why they wouldn't want to skip the trouble of packing and shipping it, and if I had a shop I'd definitely be excited to meet a customer and their dog! For a luxury item I don't really need, I don't feel good about supporting someone who treated me like my business wasn't worth their time. read more

i stopped by the shop yesterday to pick up a gift for a friend's pup who had just had an unfortunate hospital visit and i was so blown away by their amazing customer support. enzo greeted me as i entered the store -- offering the standard, "let me know if you need any help" pleasantry. he left me to my browsing, making himself available if i had any questions, yet not breathing down my neck. i did end up having questions -- some somewhat annoying -- but enzo didn't mind. "sure, we can unfold this beautifully wrapped dog scarf so you can see how big it is - no problem!" he said, without batting an eye. i ended up browsing for our own dog as well, and enzo was gladly able to answer any questions i had, no matter how stupid. i fully recognize that i'm a crazy dog owner, but i felt like enzo could empathize. suddenly, debating the right size Goughnuts.com toy for my frenchie didn't seem so silly -- enzo was down to weigh the pros and cons with me, without judgement. as i was browsing, he casually asked more about our pup -- what was his name and whether i had pictures. what a sweet gesture. i ended up spending way more than i had intended, but: zero regrets / 100% worth it. i love supporting local shops like this, and it makes it even more enjoyable when you have someone like enzo -- who's genuinely committed to helping customers find what they need. read more

Absolutely the worst customer service out there. They don't care about their customers and their pets. I was given a jacket for my dog as a gift and it was too small. When I called to see if I could exchange it for a larger size, I was told I could t since I was past the two week deadline... how is a person who receives something as a gift supposed to know that? When I explained my situation and the fact that I did not even live in the city, the assistant still refused to allow me to exchange the jacket for a different size. I ordered a bag and wanted to return it immediately. It was just too large. I found the customer service via email when you *want* to purchase something fast and informative. When I wanted to return this unused bag right after I received in the mail, it took them days to respond how I return (since their website says to contact them) and I had to pay for my own UPS return label since they didn't provide anything. Weeks after returning the bag I was not issued a refund, and they have not emailed me back in regards to issuing the return. The bag overall is fine (nothing great), overpriced, and customer service is very poor. I'd recommend finding any other dog bag. read more

As a dog owner in NYC who doesn't own a car, one reality that I need to confront regularly is the challenge of bringing my pup with me to places where freely-walkin' pups aren't 100% welcome. The subway, the coffee shop, etc. Where's this going? Love Thy Beast has the best made dog carrying bags I've been able to find. My dog is pushing 20lbs and fits in their largest bag. And it's actually pretty comfortable to carry. It blows my previous makeshift canvas bag solution out of the water. The storefront itself is small, but cute. The right size for what they're showing, really. They've got all of their products on display and a bunch of other nicer-than-they-ought-to-be pet supplies that my dog loves. read more

I found Love Thy Beast by chance one evening a few weeks ago while I was walking home with my dog Omar, and he pulled me towards the store. I went in and discovered a really beautiful collection of dog coats, accessories, dog and cat toys, and bowls, as well as a great selection of healthy pet treats and food. I bought the cutest rain coat for my dog who was getting soaked on rainy days. He looks amazing in it! The employee who helped me and the store owner were both so attentive and so nice and gave my dog treats. I have since returned to get my dog and cat some healthy treats and picked up a cool new bandana this past weekend for Omar. Once again the store owner was a gem. I'm happy to support a small business in the East Village over a chain store, especially one that is owned and run by someone so wonderful. read more
