My first birth involved medical complications and was a bit traumatic for me and baby. Recovery was difficult and I had trouble bonding with my son. During my second pregnancy I knew I needed something different. I chose Lovebug Doula care by the recommendation of my OB, and it was the best decision I've ever made. I was fortunate enough to have Ashley AND Kate at my birth. I don't even know how to begin to describe how amazing they are. I was in early labor for quite some time, and Ashley was with me every step of the way by phone advising me on what to do. Somehow she just knew what I needed and when, even without being there in person. When Ashley and Kate got to my house they were a Godsend. They immediately relaxed me and got me in the right mindset for labor. They guided my husband in the process so he could be an integral part of the process. Both Kate and Ashley were so much fun. I didn't expect to laugh so much during labor, but they made it such an enjoyable process. At the same time they knew when to get serious and became so calming when I needed it. They were so knowledgeable that they were able to tell me exactly what to expect next as each stage of labor progressed, and as we made the transition from home to the hospital. There is no way I could have accomplished my desired birth experience without them, and I couldn't have asked for 2 more amazing, empowering women to share such an intimate experience with. My husband and I will be forever grateful for both Kate and Ashley.

I wanted someone who could help me understand my options, prepare for labor, and provide support beyond what I expected from my medical team. Hiring a doula gave me the reassurance that I wouldn't have to navigate the experience alone. Knowing Michelle would be there to guide, educate, and encourage me made me feel much more confident and prepared going into my first birth. After that, having a doula, for me, was a non-negotiable. Michelle has been by my side for the births of all three of my children, and I can't imaging a birth without her. Each experience was so unique and different, but her support, knowledge, and encouragement were invaluable every single time. I wanted unmedicated births, and Michelle gave me the confidence, preparation, and tools I needed to achieve that goal. During labor, she knew exactly how to support me physically and emotionally, helping me stay focused and calm through some of the most challenging moments. When I doubted myself, she reminded me of my strength and helped me trust my body. What sets Michelle apart is that she doesn't just show up on the day of your birth. She invests in her clients, provides evidence-based information, answers questions, and helps you feel empowered to make decisions that are right for you and your family. Her presence brought a sense of peace and confidence that benefited not only me, but also my husband. She helped my husband understand my needs and how to be a source of strength. She guided him through ways to encourage and comfort me during labor, which allowed us to work together as a team and made the experience even more positive. Because of Michelle's support, I look back on all three of my birth experiences with gratitude and pride. If you're considering hiring a doula, I wholeheartedly recommend the Modern Momma team; they are compassionate, knowledgeable, professional, and truly passionate about helping mothers have positive and empowering birth experiences.

When my wife's water broke, we let the doula know and headed to the hospital. She was also told my wife was contracting. Despite knowing all of this, the doula never came and never once called to check in. We went through the birth of our son without the support we had paid for and counted on. What happened afterward was just as disappointing. Rather than taking responsibility, we were told it was our fault for not explicitly instructing her to come -- even though she knew we were at the hospital and in labor. Instead of accountability we were blamed for not "telling her to come" -- as if a laboring mother at the hospital isn't signal enough. When we asked to speak with the owner, no one had the courtesy to call us directly.

So, about 10 weeks before I was due I started the search for another doula and came across both Lora, and Chelsea, individually. I contacted them and they let me know they had recently teamed up and were available. We had a zoom call with them and my husband and I decided to book them for our August birth. Chelsea & Lora came for a home visit in June, so we could meet them and discuss initial ideas about my labor/birth/etc. They both brought their individual strengths and so much knowledge. They then came back a few weeks before I was due to discuss plans for when i went into labor, comfort measures, etc. They were both there any other time my husband and I had a question throughout the whole process as well. I had a long, long (44 hour) labor and we (mainly my husband) were in contact with Chelsea/Lora the entire time. About 22 hours in, once the pain had gotten pretty bad, Lora came to our house at 8pm. She quietly supported us and helped get through the contractions. At midnight, Chelsea swapped in so Lora could get some rest. Chelsea encouraged me to keep moving and try different things to help progress labor. When we thought it was time to go to the birth center, Chelsea came with us. When I finally ended up being admitted, Lora was the doula who ultimately joined us at the birth center- and spent over 12 hours there with us. I had mentioned during one of our previous meetings that I would love it if the doula who was present could snap some pictures during the day of labor/birth- I wasn't looking for anything too fancy or professional but just wanted some iphone pics. Lora went above and beyond, using her own camera to take lots of pictures and a video of the birth- which we haven't seen yet but are so excited for! Both Lora & Chelsea truly went above and beyond, and are a perfect complementary team. They came for a 2 week postpartum visit and it felt like having friends over to meet the baby- we cannot recommend them and their services enough & will definitely be using them for baby 2!

With my first, we did hypnobirthing classes, but only made it to week 3 of 5(he was a preemie). I had a mostly natural birth, but still felt completely out of control. When I found out I was pregnant with our second, I knew I wanted to do things differently, and Jessica was absolutely the answer. She was able to ensure that my husband and I were fully prepared, educated, and empowered. COVID regulations hit DAYS before I went into labor, and she pivoted on a dime. She educated me, helped me with hypnobirthing techniques, and supported me (and my hubby) during my pregnancy and leading up to labor. Because of covid I knew she wouldn't be allowed in the hospital but she had already given me so much - including helping me decide to change prenatal care and birthing hospital which I'm SO GLAD I did. I was able to find a hospital with midwives that was on board with my birth plan! The plan was that she would come to my house and labor with me as long as possible before going to the hospital and she would teach my husband how to support me as well. That's exactly what happened when I went Into labor. She basically did all the work with me at home, helping me manage pain and helping me trust that I could have the unmedicated labor I wanted (even when I doubted myself). Thanks to her I did it! By the time I got to the hospital I was 9 cm dilated! She had helped me do all the work at home, my baby was born 20 minutes after getting to the hospital they didn't have time for any intervention, and I'm so glad everything went according to my birth plan. But it's only because I had Jessica through it all!

Wow. What an amazing home birth experience. First of all,…read morelet me express my gratitude to all the midwives at Aurora. They are all kind, highly experienced, knowledgeable, and relatable. It's hard to come across a practice where ALL the providers are top notch. Usually there's one great provider with the others being mediocre at best. That's not the case here! Regardless of who ends up being the midwife when you give birth, you won't be disappointed! Secondly, I am extremely thankful for their ability to provide modern care with a holistic approach. The reason I chose Aurora is because they are truly up-to-date on natural approaches to pregnancy management and what is considered safe vs not. Most modern providers don't give you advice on nutrition, natural pain management (because that doesn't exist), nor do they make sure you are ok mentally. From my previous pregnancy, where I received care from an OB at another practice, I was treated as if pregnancy was a medical condition and the provider never asked for consent. They used scare tactics to talk me into getting things and doing things that I would never normally agree to. With Aurora, they take pride in asking consent for every single action before doing so. I had never experienced care where they actually consider the individual's values and opinions and not just their educated beliefs. Lastly, the whole experience of the birth was amazing and enlightening. During my first pregnancy, many things went haywire and it felt very much like a medical procedure. With Aurora, my birth at home was very peaceful and hands off. The midwives assured me every step along the way to trust my body and to do what it was asking me to do. By trusting them and listening to my body's intuition, I was able to have the best, quickest birth at home with my husband and toddler! Overall, I would give them 10/10 and recommend Aurora Midwifery to any momma who is currently pregnant. Although it's most likely my last pregnancy, I would choose Aurora time and time again for pregnancy care.

However the ultrasound doctor strongly advised to give birth at a hospital. At the time we didn't understand why or the urge to sway us away from the birthing center. My husband finally bugged the midwife enough for her to tell me to "go to a hospital, lie about having contractions" that she would make a call and have some random doctor that I've never met claim me as his patient for me to be admitted. We were left with no doctor, no help, no answers, told to lie to medical staff. It was completely stressful. No medical facility should ever treat someone like this ! Especially someone who is pregnant . It turns out that OUR midwive was responsible for the death of a baby during labor. 3 months prior to my delivery. I hired Kelly again after my first successful birth of my daughter in 2024. Since this time, I hired Kelly when I found out I was pregnant in May 2025. Unfortunately, in August we lost our little boy at 12 weeks gestation. I had delivered baby boy at home but Kelly was one of the first people I told, I remember her crying with me over the phone, this gave such comfort in that moment. She was just a text away to offer any assistance. I didn't ask her to be there, I was in shock and didn't know how to handle this experience at the time, I was just so focused on delivering at home and really didn't know what to expect, even though Kelly did educate me. She checked in on me through those hours and following days. She offered resources of miscarriage support and healing. In January we got pregnant again, Kelly was one of the first people I told. I wanted her to doula for us but was nervous to commit until after 14 week visit. She totally understood and gave me time to process. Everything had gone so smooth with baby's growth and development. I booked Kelly right after that 14 week visit, my husband and I were so excited to have her as our doula again. We saw our amazing OB, Dr. Hervey at my 18 week appointment and we were shocked and heartbroken again to find out we lost our baby girl. This time it was decided to deliver the baby at the hospital for safety reasons. I was extremely nervous especially as I was still healing from delivering my baby boy at home just 8 months prior. Kelly again was devastated, I asked her if there were any miscarriage doulas who could support us during this time. Without hesitation Kelly said she would be there for us in any capacity. I can't tell you how relieved my husband and I felt knowing Kelly would be there with us. I was induced at 9 am, Kelly checked in regularly throughout the day. By evening labor started slightly, felt like it was going to be awhile for this process to begin. Kelly showed up to the hospital and I instantly broke down with relief when I saw her. Once she arrived I could feel my body say, you're safe to have this baby now. She supported me through the tough mental moments of birthing our angel child. She cried with us, helped me stay hydrated and focused, got me into more comfortable positions and per my request, she took photos of our journey in that hospital room (actually the same hospital room we birthed my living child almost exactly 2 years prior) . Even though an extremely painful experience, Kelly met us with grace, love, and comfort and made my child's birth healing for us. A miscarriage birth is already hard and traumatic, let alone going through back to back losses. Kelly showed up in the most profound healing way. I didn't feel alone or scared. I always joke but I'm actually serious, Kelly is my pain control. Forget the epidurals or pain meds when Kelly is with you. We will get through it, we always do. Kelly you truly are a gift from God, supporting mommas and families through the beauty of child birth. You supported my family through the loss of our angel baby and gave her the dignified birth she deserved and you gave us the healing we didn't know we needed. The photos you took help us heal and remember that even through the darkness there is light, there is healing, and there is support. We didn't have to do this alone. Kelly Sunshine doula services are not just for live births, she supports families through all kinds of births, especially miscarriage loss. Don't go through it alone if you don't have to, I will never regret giving my two children a birth experience and grateful Kelly was the one who supported us through. We are forever blessed and grateful for your care.
