I want to start off by saying that I received lovely midwifery care from Erin, Kassie, and Chynna. If I still lived in AZ I would return there for future prenatal care. That being said, there are a few things I've reflected on from my time at Blossom and I have recalled a couple experiences that left me feeling uncertain and hurt. I had desired to reduce ultrasound exposure to my baby as much as possible, so I had agreed to the 20wk anatomy scan and a position check around 30wks. I requested that the fetoscope be used rather than Doppler and that no other unnecessary ultrasounds be done. I met HEAVY resistance to this request from each midwife, but particularly from Kassie who pushed my boundaries in an unprofessional way and she came off very judgmental. Rather than explaining risks AND benefits, I felt ostracized, especially when I said "is this okay" and Kassie said "well, no", but with NO ability to explain ultrasound risks to me in an articulate or evidence-based way. I truly am sharing this experience to help Blossom consider a different way to approach something like this if it arises in the future. I ended up having a hospital birth with Kassie and she truly was an amazing midwife, so supportive and a great advocate. One other issue was that after my birth my placenta was sent to pathology because of some concerns about it. Chynna told me about this in my postpartum checkup, but I was never given the report to look over for myself, and she had said that Dr. Nichelle would reach out to me via phone call to review it which didn't happen. Dr. Nichelle was also incredible during my birth and I'm thankful for her care. Again, my perinatal care from Blossom overall was excellent and I wish I had been proactive to address these issues with the midwives in person, but I also feel that it is good to share my experiences for others to know what care is like at Blossom. I do truly believe that each of these midwives care about you and your baby's safety and desire for you to have the birth you want! I was called fat, then told because I lost maybe 3lbs I needed to count all my calories (I did the one week but then they wanted more). To start off, Chynna and Cassie were amazing! We had great experiences with them. It was when Erin entered the conversation that we started having problems. She accused me of never calling them back until I pulled up my phone records and listed all the calls (dates and times) to prove I had called back and had even called back twice in response to one message. The only time I didn't respond was when Erin first called me from her personal cell but did not leave a message or send a text. Other than that, I called back every time, usually on the same day they called me (once was the next business day). Erin then told me that my last appointment had not been complete and that the midwives had been talking about how I was not fulfilling my end of the agreement. When I asked how the appointment was incomplete, she stated that they didn't do an ultrasound or complete exam. When I responded that we had done a glucose test, sonogram, and ultrasound and it felt exactly like every other appointment I had, she said, "Well, the midwife you saw didn't think it was complete." Unfortunately, the conversation with Erin was the first time I was hearing that. She then moved on to me not fulfilling my end of the agreement, but didn't give details. The only thing I could figure was that it was because I was only able to make appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I reminded Erin that I had stated this before signing the contract and was told that this would not be a problem. At one point she also said I'm not coming in to see them enough, but when I made the future appointments they told me I was on track. So either, the birthing assistant, front office manager, and midwife who all helped me make the appointments were wrong or Erin was. All of this interaction with Erin occurred over the phone with my husband on with me. She knew I had my husband on from the very beginning of the call but every time he tried to talk, she would cut him off. I had to finally tell her to stop talking over him and let him speak before she listened to him. The whole call was unprofessional, disrespectful, and condescending. It is because of Erin that we decided to leave Blossom and look for something else. We didn't want to risk having her as our midwife when our son is born. I don't know if Erin was speaking out of turn or if she is the only one actually telling me the truth, but it isn't right to do that to someone who is 30 weeks pregnant without any warning. They should have been communicating with me about any of this from the beginning, not ten weeks before my due date. I am very disappointed in my experience. read more

It's really funny how a place that claims to empower women is full of the biggest body shamers in Phoenix, AZ. Every single appointment I had the OB or one of the midwives would comment on my weight and shame me for "eating any carbs" and even for drinking smoothies. By the way, I followed all of their ridiculous diet recommendations (since that's literally the only thing they talked at me about) and still rapidly gained weight. Hmmm! The fact that this place claims to be "evidence-based" is laughable, as all of the birth prep materials I was given were literally ripped straight from an 80s VHS. Very outdated, just like their practices! If I hadn't been monitoring my own levels at home (???) maybe they would have caught my PRE-ECLAMPSIA sooner instead of shaming me for gaining weight during pregnancy. Clearly I'm not the only person who had this experience here either, based on other reviews. How about instead of posting cringey clapback replies to negative reviews you, I don't know, reflect on how to make your practice less exclusionary and shame based. Oh yeah, after my traumatic hospital birth, the OB came into my room and immediately put my newborn into my hospital bed to breastfeed. Did she ask any questions about how I was doing? Nope!! Did I express a desire to bedshare? Nope! They're more concerned with pushing their regressive beliefs on new moms than literally anything else. This place is apparently a faith-based practice as well (which I have no problem with, but I would have liked to have known this up front before I decided to pursue care). I was told I could not get an IUD after birth from them because one of the staff members did not believe in them. So finding a new care team post birth because of that was an additional headache. Again, it's not the faith based aspect I'm concerned about, it's the fact that this is not stated up front. Every single appointment I had was rushed and short. The OB also forgot my name at my follow up appointment. I really felt the investment in my care in that moment! Do better, Blossom. Seriously. Glad I got a refund for the nonexistent "services" you provided. Wish I could send you my therapy bill for recovering from your "care." Oh and don't even get me started on your "Milk Spot." I used Blossom for my first pregnancy about a year ago and I highly recommend them! I transferred to their care from a traditional OBGYN and I am so happy that I did. I will say, I was taken aback by some things said to me at Blossom at first. I am a very private person, and I took some of their advice to be a bit intrusive. But I came to realize it was because I was so unaccustomed to medical professionals genuinely caring about you as a person. The ladies at Blossom really do care about you and your baby. They don't see you as just a number or another patient. I actually ended up transferring to the hospital in an ambulance during labor due to complications. Even though my birth experience was not what I intended it to be, I cannot emphasize enough how thankful I am for Erin and Chyna. My son and I had the best possible outcome, and I attribute that in part to the skill, experience, and good judgement of the midwives at Blossom. My son and I struggled to breastfeed after birth and even though I was in the hospital, they made sure I got breastfeeding support from the Milk Spot and as a result of this help, my son is still breastfeeding at a year old. I also sought help from them for postpartum depression about 9 months postpartum. Mary was able to help me with progesterone as a treatment and it basically cured my depression. I am eternally grateful to these ladies and all of the team over at the Milk Spot and Causey Chiropractic. My wife was terminated as a client of Blossom, over the phone, 10-15 minutes following our monthly check-up visit, at 23 weeks pregnant. A suitable explanation was not provided, simply that we were not a good fit. In retrospect, termination was probably for the best, as there were a number of issues we had with Blossom that we had overlooked due to the simple desire to have a healthy baby under a more holistic and natural setting. Given the character limit of reviews, I'll do my best to succinctly explain these issues and our experience surrounding them. I will not be talking about specific individuals, but instead focusing on our care as a whole. ISSUE #1: Blossom does not work well with assertive, inquisitive, and self-advocating individuals. My wife and I both work in the health industry, with my career in particular being that of medical and nutritional research writing. We are both direct with our communication and like to have a complete understanding about our prenatal care. This necessarily involves asking, at times difficult, questions about the scientific underpinnings of their recommendations. We believe this contributed to our termination, as there were times when our comments, questions, or clarifications on scientific findings were taken personally as an attack on their knowledge, when instead our only goal was to have a complete understanding of our care. One example of this related to pregnancy nutrition, as we tried to inquire about Blossom's opinion regarding weight gain and calorie intake (to supplement our own knowledge), and they could not provide an answer beyond that we should gain 25-35 pounds in total during pregnancy. It was evident that they did not have special knowledge regarding pregnancy nutrition, and our inquiry seemed to offend them. Another example relates to progesterone, as we were curious about why they monitor it throughout pregnancy despite virtually no clinical research showing that it improves birth outcomes past the first trimester. Similarly, they didn't seem to be aware of key pharmacokinetic differences between vaginal and oral progesterone, which leads to vastly different serum levels despite having equivalent outcomes (if not vaginal superiority) when compared in head-to-head trials. It really felt like they were just chasing a number without considering the bigger picture of care or route of progesterone administration. Fundamentally, Blossom's ideal client seems to be someone who is passive about their prenatal care and simply does what they are told without question. ISSUE #2: Blossom is disorganized and has poor communication. It took weeks for Blossom to obtain medical records for my wife. After our anatomy scan, for example, they did not have the results for weeks afterwards, despite us seeing them in person and calling. They stated they would request the records again, yet the issue didn't resolve until I called the anatomy scan location and asked them to re-send the results to Blossom. They had also told me they had initially sent them the day of the scan and hadn't been contacted by Blossom since, despite Blossom saying they would. Another issue was that Blossom had poor follow-up on blood labs for progesterone, despite my wife's serum levels being "too low" for what Blossom likes to see. Most times after the results were in her patient portal, we needed to call Blossom to discuss them rather than being called by them. Lastly, Blossom refused to talk with me over the phone about my wife's care despite my wife releasing her medical information to me and personally requesting that they speak with me because I was more informed about the scientific evidence around certain issues like progesterone administration. It was frustrating and prevented having the most productive conversation possible. ISSUE #3: Blossom has an unclear financial agreement and unusual billing practices. Blossom was contracted with our insurance, and it wasn't made clear in the financial agreement how insurance played into things, particularly because they expected payment in full before birthing services were rendered, at which point they stated they would run the birth through insurance. We spent a great deal of time over the phone and in person trying to understand how everything worked because insurance is not an area of knowledge for either me nor my wife, but Blossom appeared to be annoyed by our desire to have a crystal-clear understanding of the financial agreement. They made dismissive comments about how we could simply find somewhere else if we didn't trust them. This issue was compounded further by their refusal to talk with my mother about all this, despite our request because my mother has 30+ years working in health and benefits directly with insurance companies. She is the best person to understand the nuances and then communicate back to us in simple terms, but Blossom had no desire to help us understand. They just wanted us to "trust them". read more

If you want a birth center that adheres to "do no harm" this is not the birth center for you. I was let go as a patient at 23 weeks due to my response in regards to Erin "recommendation" (more like mandate) of the COVID vaccine. I replied to her commentary about the board of obstetrics recommending all pregnant women get the vaccine with a simple "and we think that is highly unethical". Nothing more was said from me. Her eyes got big and she subsequently rolled them. We moved on and didn't discuss this for the remainder of my appointment. I knew she didn't like my response, but I never would have thought I would have been let go at 23 weeks after multiple pregnancy losses, for a comment so benign. This is 2021 and our COVID vaccine data in pregnancy won't be completed until the end of 2023. My hesitation is not extreme or unwarranted. Her offense was unwarranted and never something a medical professional should engage in (shaming a woman for a very personal decision). I'm not anti-vaccine whatsoever and I'm fully vaccinated myself other than the one vaccine that doesn't have safety data on it yet for pregnancy. I am not willing to take the risk, albeit however small it turns out to be (we just don't know yet). The entire last appointment was strange. It was held outside from the beginning in 104 degree weather, in masks, and socially distanced. I've been to multiple practices for medical care during the pandemic and never have I been treated like a parasite that needed to be seen outside with masks and distanced from. Again I am not sick and there was zero reason for Blossom to treat me this way. I have since found a new birth center (Babymoon) and cried at how amazingly nice and friendly they were. No masks, inside an office, and personal autonomy was allowed. This is how birth centers are supposed to conduct business. Not like the patient is a parasite bothering them. Blossoms actions were extremely traumatic for me as you can imagine trying to find another birthing center at 23 weeks. --Nichele has great bedside manner. Logical and direct, which I appreciated. Standard OB approach with an appreciation for perinatal nutrition. --Office staff was extremely disorganized. Miscommunication about billing and losing paper work happened a few times in the time I was working with them. I was told the office manager was new and she was still learning. I understood this so it didn't bother me much. Sydney is very nice. I'm not sure if this is "her" problem because looking at all the other reviews on Google, the office staff has been very disorganized for a lot longer than she's been there. --Mary was fine and nice on most days. The exception being at one visit she said some strange things like she can choose who she works with and may decide not to work with me (strange thing to say to someone hiring you), and she also digressed into talking about past patients negatively which I felt uncomfortable listening to. --Erin was hostile and aggressive with her communication. She attacked me verbally on several occasions, at several different visits, for whatever her qualm of the week was in regards to a first time moms innocent inquiries. Making me feel unheard and aggressively attacked every time I asked a question. The final visit at blossom she made it very known she is extremely pro COVID vaccine for pregnancy (which is fine, as I have zero issues with this unless someone is being abusive towards me). The impression I got from her is that she does not like people with personal boundaries because she gets ego satisfaction from being able to push people around. Midwifery is definitely not a position to hold when you want to exert control and power over patients. FIRST TIME FATHER, BIRTHING COACH & NATURAL BIRTH: As a husband I felt my experience was so profound that I wanted to leave my own review separate from my wife's experience (also 5 stars and wonderful). We found Blossom to be a truly amazing experience!!! My wife and I visited several birthing centers including Baby Moon (we also liked our tour/consultation there) however, we ended up going with Blossom because of their amazing staff and the comfort and security we felt in their presence. My wife and I were very excited for our first child and we wanted very much to have a successful natural birth. Although you cannot control the outcome of a well thought out birth plan, you can control the people you choose to support/lead you along the way. A major factor in our decision to select Blossom was based our comfort level should we have to deviate from our birth plan. After meeting the Blossom team we felt not only at home, but also as if we were in the care of passionate professionals with the approachability of your favorite aunt/family member. Our prenatal appointments rotated between Nichelle, Mary, and Amy and all of three of them brought a special perspective and unique insights to the natural birth preparation. My wife and I were excited at the prospect of any one of these women facilitating our birth plan. The thing that stands out the most in our prenatal appointments was the comfort my wife and I felt to ask a number of questions and the feedback we received was never coalesced in judgement or a strong persuasion to a specific methodology. Through the entire process we always felt immense flexibility and support in our birth plan. When the day of our birth came, Mary was the attending midwife and she facilitated the most amazing birth experience for both my wife and I. My wife wanted a water birth and when active labor started to stagnate (2+ hours in the tub), Mary suggested we change position and try the birthing chair. Within an hour our baby boy was born and this was due to Mary's wisdom and immense birthing experience to guide my wife each step of the way. Mary offered a wonderful mix of soft consoling, firm encouragement, and steadfast guidance when needed. Our overall birth experience was the result of the incredible trust, guidance, encouragement, and the impeccable passion the blossom birthing team provided from the moment we walked in the door. In reading some of the review from late 2016 and early 2017 about poor response time and/or customer service, I can say that my wife and I did not experience any such issues from our first request for a tour/orientation to the numerous follow up calls we received throughout the process. Whatever shortcoming may have been experienced by others certainly do not seem to present with the current staff/team. We attended a bradley class with several other Blossom couples and our experience and sentiments towards Blossom were shared amongst the group. My wife and I have since referred a friend who is an expecting mother (whom was not even considering a natural birth) and she has since decided to go the natural birth route after her first consultation with Blossom. My husband and I recently visited Blossom for conception advice. We were not impressed. The facility looks fine, but there was no receptionist which made the center feel informal and unprofessional. The midwife we met with told us to "drink a couple beers and have lots of sex." During our tour, we were shown a room that was going to be used for labor in about 15 minutes. Having had care in another birth center that was knowledgeable, welcoming, and professional, we can not recommend this one. read more

I was so thankful to find Blossom Birth and Wellness with my first back in 2014. The whole team is amazing. I have now had THREE wonderful birthing experiences (resulting in three incredibly wonderful children!) with them and they have my complete trust. I have to echo what another person wrote here: CROOKS AND LIARS. Their billing person Kashauna in particular is a HUGE LIAR. We were told on several occasions by her that she would cut our refund check after the insurance settled (they forced us to pay cash upfront before they would deal with our insurance since they billed out-of-network). We were also told from the beginning by Nichelle, the doctor that ended up delivering our baby, that after the insurance settled we would get a refund check. But as it turned out, once the insurance paid out, Kashuna changed her story and said they don't ever issue refunds. Then she and the rest of the staff at Blossom wouldn't return phone calls or emails. After months of this CRAP, we pretty much decided it wasn't worth our effort to fight them (exactly what they were hoping, I'm sure!). Well fast forward into the new year, I get a notice from my insurance company that they sent another bill (9 months after the birth) billing them for another $8K, this time under a different "code." They waited as long as they could to try to rape my insurance company for whatever was left in my accounts at the end of the year. Clearly, they know exactly what they are doing and how to steal as much money as possible from their clients and insurance companies. Between the cash they took directly from me and the money they swindled out of my insurance company, they have received significantly more than anything that was paid out to my previous doctor/hospital for a previous hospital birth. Putting aside the financial piece of this, the thing that most upsets me is how we were treated. The actual birth was a great experience, but based on everything that happened afterwards, I literally feel sick to my stomach when I think of Blossom. We opened ourselves up to trust our doctor and midwife and try to build a relationship with them (which is so different from the average doctor at a hospital). And now we both feel stupid and used for having trusted any of them with our money and more importantly we regret trusting them with my life and our baby's life. This is a nightmare. They are UNETHICAL LIARS. If for some reason you still think Blossom is a good idea for you, be forewarned. UPDATE March 2013 - About 3 days after I wrote this initial review on Yelp, I got a hand written note from Nichelle & Mary with a check for $1000 labeled "refund." The note says: "We wish you all well. All facility fees were billed at the same time and yours was mistakenly included. We are enclosing $1000 and are sorry for the misunderstanding and confusion that ensued. Thank you again." First off, I find it very sad that I had to post a negative review on a social media tool in order to get some kind of response out of them. And secondly, if they "MISTAKENLY" billed my insurance, then why wouldn't they refund the full amount (much closer to $5000 in Dec'12) they mistakenly took back to the insurance company?? Instead they send me $1000 even - about half as much as I expected to get back in the first place and certainly a lot less than what they "mistakenly" took from my insurance. Sounds like they are just trying to get me to leave them alone. And in response to Mary's initial comment, I am not saying that Blossom's fees are not "competitive and fair" but instead the agreement I had with them and what I was told on multiple occasions is different than their actions and what I was charged. It really didn't matter whether the fees were $20... or $20,000 - in the end it is the principle. I certainly hope that after this negative review that they use it as an opportunity to fix their accounting department - Nichelle and Mary are very good at what they do - birthing babies naturally. I've wanted to write a review since I was pregnant but to wait for the full experience to post! Pregnancy: We loved that all of our appointments are with either Mary or Nichelle (and now Marie!) so by the time you give birth, you're comfortable with anyone who happens to be on call. The different backgrounds that they both come from give you 100% peace of mind and nothing is left unsaid or breezed over. Appointments are so much longer and comprehensive than other girls who were pregnant at the same time as me going the western medicine rout. Some of my friends were shocked at the information I had vs their 15 minute appointment with their dr.s. They take time to address emotional topics like in-laws, boundaries, support and how to address them in a way that makes everyone comfortable. We had some issues that Nichelle wouldn't let us ignore and I'm glad she didn't. They also work with you and your spouse together to start working as a team with the little one on the way! We also took a class with Leah and did a Lactation class next door and both have proved very helpful. I truly felt that they prepared us emotionally, spiritually and physically for our labor and beyond. Labor: Mary was there for our birth as well as Genie a doula I believe. Mary ran the show like a boss but I loved Genie's soft demeanor and touch. I remember thinking multiple times "OMG how does she know that feels so good??" But I was in labor land so I didn't say anything lol. Mary was awesome in recommending positions based on where she said the baby was positioned and to get him spun around. My early and active labor were long but amazing. I also have to give a huge shout out to my husband who never left my side and was incredible! Once it came time to push we did have some complications that resulted in Mary calling and ambulance to be on standby in case I couldn't get baby out in time safely. Nichelle came in at this point to help as well. She made all decisions quickly without hesitation to keep baby and I safe. Luckily with both of their experience and quick reaction, I gave birth naturally and safely as we had hoped and planned at Blossom. I also had further complications after baby was safely delivered and again Mary sprang into action and addressed all issues quickly and efficiently. Although my delivery is not how we imagined, we are both so grateful and in love with how everything happened. Mary was incredible and because of her we have a beautiful, strong healthy boy, born naturally as we had dreamed. We only plan to have one baby but should we choose to have another it will hands down be with Blossom, we love you all! read more

Before I became pregnant, I researched and meditated on where and how I wanted to birth my unborn baby. For me, Blossom was a clear choice and the first call I made the day I learned I was pregnant. From the moment I walked through the doors of the birth center, I knew I made the right decision. Nichelle and Mary became, and still remain, two of the most important people in my life. The genuine, loving care combined with years of medical expertise gave me much needed comfort. Emotionally and nutritionally, you will not find better support. Each visit is an empowering experience. My son, now 18 months - has been healthy, alert, and intelligent from the moment he arrived. That prenatal protein intake sure does make a difference! Seeing these one star reviews genuinely hurts me. These are serious accusations, especially when it comes to our prenatal health and the care of our unborn babies. I hope my fellow Yelp users have the wisdom to see that these negative reviews are a reflection of money issues - which was never a problem for me - in fact, Kashuna was very professional and always responded quickly and accurately. Billing policies are policies for a reason. This is a business and as a business owner myself, I know this and respect it. I honestly could have not have asked for a more beautiful and amazing birth experience. When I first found out I was pregnant I went and had my first appointment with an OBGYN. I felt like a number not a person. I was in and out of that office so fast and I feel like she dismissed every question I asked her. From my first appointment at Blossom with Nichelle I felt cared for and important. I am trying to make this a quick and sweet review because I feel like if start to go into detail about how incredible my 9 months with Blossom were this could turn into a novel! Bottom line, I plan on having all my babies at Blossom! As far as the other weird reviews on here regarding billing and money, we never had an issue. Our insurance covered a little less than half the cost and we paid for the rest. Even if we didn't have insurance and had to pay the entire fee out of pocket it would still have been a THIRD of what you would pay to a hospital. Crooks and Liars? I don't think so. I think maybe just some confusion and misunderstandings with the billing department. This whole operation is run by just a few ladies. I doubt they are "out to get your money" They are just trying to run a business and bring healthy babies into the world! read more

When I read the comments below, I was in utter shock. Mary, Nichelle, and the rest of the Blossom team are literally the last people in this world I would define in any way dishonest. I understand that every business dissatisfies someone along the way, and I could entirely understand someone being unhappy if maybe a birthing center environment just wasn't their forte. But to make such allegations because of an obvious misunderstanding to women who would literally bend over backwards for any woman that walks in their door is tasteless. I find it highly offensive and the statements aren't even about me! First of all, I was in a very VERY financial tight situation when I sought their services. They knew this and provided them anyway from about halfway into my pregnancy. In the end when I couldn't afford to continue paying payments, they worked out a deal with me so that I could make other arrangements with the center. So in other words, they delivered my baby fully knowing they weren't going to being further compensated. There was never a single appointment where I didn't get exactly what I wanted. All of my questions (no matter how silly) were answered, my fears comforted, and even the most intense of feelings addressed calmly. I had sought an OBGYN in the beginning that had made me feel shameful and weak. She had convinced me I would need a CSection and was even rude to me when I informed her that I was seeking midwifery services. Mary and her team made me feel strong, competent, and probably the most like a woman I'd ever felt. They each went above and beyond their duties to make sure my pregnancy was the best experience possible. Because that's what they personally believe in. That pregnancy and childbirth is a magical time meant to be celebrated. My labor was 24 hours. It was very intense. I was dilated to a 9 for over 10 hours and pushed for several hours. I felt like a princess being hand fed, constant pressure kept on my back to ease my extreme back labor, words of encouragement and comfort the entire time, wet washclothes kept on my face.....I was royalty. Every step was hands on, I was never alone unless I requested it, and everything feasible was done to make me the happiest and most comfortable person alive and bring my baby into the world peacefully and into love. I usually respect every person's opinion, but I would call the negative comments below me liars to their faces. I cannot reasonably believe that the staff at Blossom did anything remotely as described. And for the record, I don't know who told that mom that she would get a check BACK from insurance, but that's obscene. I personally think it was just misunderstandings that left sour tastes, but I wish they wouldn't have come on here to sully probably the best business on this website. Because with the personal treatment and even financial arrangements you get at Blossom, they will always be like my family. read more

I love this place! I chose this place after I had a "traditional" birth at Arrowhead hospital with a Dr who had high c-section rates and interventions, with my first son. I knew I wanted something different after experiencing a 2nd degree episiotomy, being induced and had an epidural as well as no birth classes & hemorrhaged after being in labor for 24 hours, exhausted from no food or drink for almost 2 days. My then Dr, claimed birth classes were a waste of time and that all Moms should get epidurals too. With my 2nd pregnancy, I educated myself and watched documentaries and read about my options and effects on baby etc etc etc. I originally wanted to perhaps do a home birth but my husband was not comfortable with that. We found two birth centers and really liked Blossom and also like the fact that one of the owners is a Dr. As well. I ended up having two beautiful birth experiences here with these awesome midwives. I had Mary Langlois at both of my births there at blossom. She has such a calm way about her that is so reassuring and comforting when you're going through your birth experience and labor. They have years of experience and I'm so grateful that I chose them instead of another place. Their combined knowledge about birth, breastfeeding, labor partners/doulas, nutrition during birth, etc etc etc is just amazing and it's hard to find a provider that well rounded. Trust me I searched. I'm that type. If you're even considering a midwife and birth center or a home birth, I recommend the team at blossom birth center. They have wonderful birthing tubs, showers and it's all in a private room. They really take care of you and believe in YOU and your ability to birth in the way a woman is designed to. They are inspiring and I'm forever thankful and changed ever since my experiences birthing there with them. I had two beautiful water births and I pushed out two boys. One was 10lbs 9oz and 22" and the other was 10lbs 3oz and 22". They were confident in my ability to birth these large baby boys and I did it!!! My first Dr wasn't, which was why he induced me with my first son at Arrowhead, which was 9lbs 9oz and 22". I let my 1st Dr freak me out about size and my midwives believed in me and reassured me that even if something did happen we were only a handful of blocks away from the hospital if we needed or I wanted to go there at any point during my labor. I didn't need to go and I'm just so thankful I was able to have two water births at Blossom and have their awesome and experienced staff with me. I live up in north Peoria near Lake Pleasant and they are down by the Children's hospital off of the Hwy 51 and Thomas rd. so it was a drive for me but so worth it. I don't care where you're at in the valley, quality is worth it in pregnancy. I recommend this place to everyone!!! You won't be disappointed. read more

This review is not actually about the care & services of Blossom, because I could not get that far. First attempt to speak about becoming a client, I called but no one answered. I didn't leave a VM but sent an email instead because of the nature of a question I had. No response after 3 days. So I call in the morning. No answer. Called again in the afternoon to leave a VM. Late the next day, I get a call back, & despite my explanation of why I was calling in the VM, the tone of the woman who answered was basically a very uninterested "what do you want". She didn't have an answer for my question regarding insurance & tried to dismiss me, but I had talked to my insurance co. first & knew the answer I needed had to come from Blossom. I pushed, being an interested potential client & wanting to give them my money & all, so she said she would call me back with an answer. No call back. Customer service should not be so painful, & for a natural birth facility, you'd expect more positivity & kindness. My first question was if they were even accepting new clients, so that if they were too busy she could have said so. This may not be a reason to avoid this facility if your experience is better, but I'm hoping the staff takes this to heart & changes. Baby & I have instead gone to Babymoon where I get cheers & hugs on top of the wonderful care. read more

I had an okay time at blossom. There were really lovely aspects, and not so lovely aspects. I never really felt peaceful there and I had a hard time connecting with the providers apart from the providers at the Milk Spot. I was a really nervous new mom and I never really felt comforted by their answers which were typically "go home and rest, maybe you need to quit your job, you're just a new mom". I was even told once that because I was having a normal pregnancy, I was probably just creating problems in my head and that's why I felt bad. I needed a lot of questions answered and a lot of accompaniment, but I didn't really receive it from anyone but Diane and Britney at the Milk Spot. Especially when I was transferred to the hospital after I thought my water had broken. I felt so alone and unsupported. I had a seriously traumatic and heavily medicated birth and I hemorrhaged and could hardly move for weeks. I don't think placing blame on any of the midwives is helpful because I do think they did the best they could, but in retrospect there were some huge issues that could have been handled differently and prevented the whole transfer to the hospital in the first place. I definitely couldn't trust them again with my health and my birth. I wouldn't return because I just never felt really supported as I prepared for my birth. I felt stressed, belittled when I asked questions or when I needed support, and I didn't mesh well with any of the main midwives or obgyn. I know now that that is extremely important for a peaceful birth experience so my bad for not listening to my instincts. I know many people who have a great experience and I would never deter anyone from seeing how they liked it for themselves. It's really important that you listen to your peace and your instincts. If you feel loved supported and strong, stay, if you do not, explore other options.but for me, I will not be returning to blossom for care. As a registered nurse, I knew getting plugged into hospital protocol and procedures was not what I wanted for my labor and delivery. After discussing my birth plan with my kind and gentle OB, he pushed for induction. He told me I had a small stature and my hips were too narrow to birth naturally. This was completely shocking, considering how accommodating and understanding he was with each 15 minute appointment we had with him before. I exited the exam room, and asked my records be transferred to Blossom Birth Center at 30 weeks gestation. I didn't know what I was missing until I met with Diane, Mary and Nichelle (The midwives at Blossom). They took me in right away, pouring out love and knowledge each appointment, which were each an hour long. The encouragement they showered me with was unbelievable and much needed. Everyone else I knew thought I was absolutely crazy for wanting a natural birth and even told me I was putting my unborn daughter's life in danger and would be begging for an epidural. The atmosphere of Blossom was a God send, and the staff selflessly worked to equip my husband and I with the courage and confidence we needed to endure through a beautiful birth experience. They truly are passionate and dedicated to providing the best holistic care possible. In labor, I felt nothing but pure love! As soon as I walked through the doors, Sommer and Mary had drawn a bath and made me breakfast. After relaxing in the bath for a moment, I lied in bed while Sommer massaged my feet and led me through some light stretching exercises to get baby girl in optimal position...I took a small nap (gathering some much needed energy) before Nichelle and Jacqueline arrived. Through labor they showered me with positive words of encouragement. They called me a warrior, beautiful, and strong. They prayed over me and with my husband and I. Just before Hosanna arrived, they broke out in song, singing our most loved worship song 'Hosanna'. And two pushes later our beloved was born. My husband and I look back at our prenatal, labor and postpartum care with Blossom with endearment. They gave us beautiful memories and the most wonderful experience. Love, love, love. I love everyone who works in this birth center. I'm keeping this short and sweet. Blossom is a holistic environment, Nichelle, Diane and Mary all compliment one another, and ultimately you reap the benefit of all of their collective knowledge. Together they will guide you through the most healthy pregnancy you can ever imagine and empower you to own all of your choices regarding labs / sonograms / etc etc etc. Your appointments are never rushed and the support that is offered is genuine. My pregnancy lasted about 41 and a half weeks without alarm, additional testing or interventions. My son is healthy, happy, and spent the first 24 hours of his life chest to chest with me. Pretty long intake process, and you do have to be healthy and low risk. They are exceptionally clear about how their billing works and will answer all of your questions with transparency. They will work with you and are honest, hard working, loving professionals. read more

My husband and I absolutely LOVED the care and support we received at Blossom. Nichelle and Mary were so informative, caring, open and so warm and welcoming! We were never rushed or made to feel like our questions didn't matter...we were like a family. Our prenatal care really established a wonderful relationship with them and made it feel so comfortable. The day I gave birth, September 14, 2014 couldn't have been any more amazing and perfect. Nichelle was on call that night and Sommer, an amazing doula, was there to receive us when we arrived. They were so nurturing and made us feel so at home and loved. I got to have the birth I dreamed of surrounded by gentle women and love. I am so thankful to have found this birthing center and this amazing group of women. We will DEFINITELY be back when we have another child. As for the negative comments regarding Kashuna and the billing...it's awful! We never had any issues. Everyone was very clear on payments and how everything works from our very first appointment and were always willing to explain further if we ever had questions. Kashuna has been wonderful helping us set up payments that fit with our budget. I highly recommend Blossom! read more

I want to write a really balanced and fair review of Blossom while also sharing my personal experience. Personally all the ladies, Nichelle, Mary & Amy are lovely people and I believe they mean well and do their best to create the Blossom experience in the way they see best. I found my experience with them confusing, disorganized, impatient and even cruel. Depending on what you are looking for, I would make sure you vet them carefully. Pros: - track record of successful births onsite - Nichelle is an OB which allows for continuity of care if hospitalization is required - focus on maternal wellness/nutrition/education Cons: - administratively disorganized - scheduling, insurance questions, calls - poor inter-team communication. It's clear that they are so overwhelmed that there is a lot of miscommunication that happens between the team. - not a lot of patience for people who might be scared or need more information. They are such old hats they are far removed from the experience of a first time mom that my experience is that they can't empathize or be compassionate for being in that position - they dropped me at 20 weeks and if they can do that to me they can do that to you. Ask yourself if you would even risk that. ---- Blossom has chosen to have the office staff be people who are involved in the birth process, so birth assistants answer the phone and do the scheduling. They are lovely and office management is probably not their calling. I had a very intense confrontation with them about a canceled appointment after my previous appointment had been scheduled incorrectly. Yes things happen and my reaction was disproportionate to what happened but it came down to the fact that I just didn't feel well handled or safe. I felt unimportant and discarded. To me, how you do one thing is how you do everything and it deeply concerned me about how they would handle a birth. We almost parted ways at that time but we smoothed it out, talked and I thought everything was great. They assured me that the details that truly matter re the health and safety of me and my baby were the ones they focused on and I promised to be trusting. Fast forward a few weeks. I experienced spotting at 19 weeks and was very scared. I called and checked in and followed their instructions. I called again the next day and spoke to Mary and I did exactly as she told me. That night I remembered something that I thought could be important and I paged her. I was scared, emotional and had questions. She told me it did not sound like an emergency but go to the hospital if I wanted and call Nichelle the next day to ask her my questions since she was just going home after a birth. She said to me "sometimes when we are happy we create problems" and I insisted that I was fine until I experienced the spotting and I felt like she was projecting that onto me in an inaccurate way. I called the next day and got a message back to go to the hospital if I thought it was necessary. I didn't go to the hospital and decided to wait to my next appointment. I showed up for my appointment and Amy brings in a piece of paper saying they had mailed me a letter of cancellation of services and they would no longer be my care provider. You can imagine at 20 weeks pregnant being told you have to go find another doctor or midwife being traumatic. They didn't even have the decency to call me. While a letter is the legal requirement, the way they handled it was cruel and insensitive, especially in light of our recommitment to one another only weeks earlier. I see it as a blessing and a sign it wasn't meant to be. The behaviors put together do not signal the kind of care I want. While these women are very experienced, have an excellent percentage rate of successful and healthy births, they don't seem to have a lot of patience for people who don't have as much knowledge or experience as they do or a personality that is less than convenient for them.Even when I wanted to talk through the "what ifs" around needing to go to the hospital, I was told we don't talk about that because if you focus on it it was more likely to happen. I am an intense and vocal person who speaks up and says something and asks questions because I am my own advocate. I think their ideal client is someone who is laid back and passive who doesn't cause them too much trouble. That is of course their right, but that does not give me a lot of confidence in being able to recommend them even though all the data points to them being very capable. If you're looking for a place to feel Empowered by your birth, look no further. I found out I was pregnant the week COVID blew up, this comes with a lot of feelings on its own but a worldwide pandemic adds an entire new feel to 'scared'. Prenatal care was definitely different, and while I think 'what if' about it, I know Blossom took amazing care of me and my baby throughout my entire pregnancy. I knew I'd wanted a midwife, since my first birth didn't go as planned. I did a lot of research and came upon Blossom Birth Center. I spoke with Kyla in the phone and she practically sealed the deal. She took the time to get to know me and to fully understand what I wanted, needed and reassured me Blossom was the place for me. My first appointment was with Mary, I shared deep, personal feelings with her about being scared to have a second child, she instantly made me feel at ease. She put all of my misconceptions to rest and made me feel confident & excited. Little did I know I'd be delivering my baby with both Kyla and Mary, the entire process of pregnancy and prenatal care with Blossom was immaculate. I always felt cared for, I felt they took time to get to know me personally. They invested themselves in me. When Kyla and Mary helped me bring my daughter into this world, they not only cheered me on but gave me praise after praise. I feel honored and blessed to know these women, and I can't speak enough wonderful words about Blossom. read more

I delivered my second baby here after my first delivery in a hospital with a midwife that was not supportive of my birthing plan. These women are fabulous and each bring their own experiences that will make your birthing experience incredible. I loved walking into my appointment and being the only one in the office. I never felt rushed during my appointments and always felt that they had my best interest at heart. They listen to what you have to say and offer invaluable advice. If you are looking to deliver your baby naturally and in a caring and loving environment these women will help you with that. If I had to do it all over again it would definitely be at Blossom! read more

The one month that I attended Blossom I learned so much about my pregnancy and pregnancy in general than I ever did at the previous place I attended for the first 5 months. Every single Blossom staff member I encountered was knowledgeble and GENUINELY caring and nice. The office is clean and very cozy. The atmosphere excudes positive energy. Believe me as many medical offices I have been to in my 28 years on this earth across 2 states that is very important to be surrounded by positivity. Unfortunately, I am not low risk so I wasn't able to stay. Furthermore, being 6 months pregnant and a busy teacher, they found me an OB/GYN and let the new place know I will be coming. I didn't have to scramble around AT ALL looking for another place on my own. Beautiful humans run and work at Blossom. Mothers to be would enjoy having their baby there. Brace yourself, this review is long, but for good reason. My husband and I shopped a few birthing centers, but the second we walked into Blossom, we both looked at each other and knew this was it. It had the most calming wonderful feeling when we walked in and it just felt like home. Once we got the tour we decided then and there we were having our baby there. The prenatal care at Blossom was unlike anything we expected. Every appointment is an hour long, AN HOUR, where you discuss everything and anything about that time in your pregnancy. All 3 midwives are so knowledgeable and help educate you through the entire process. Every appointment you rotate between midwives so you can make a connection with each of them, that way by the time you give birth, whoever is on call, you're already 100% comfortable with them. We just loved that. Every midwife is kind, loving, warm and so informative it's amazing and made our pregnancy that much more incredible. Now, I had an unusual case. My water didn't actually "break." Long story short, Mary helped me through starting labor naturally due to my specific situation. Once I went into labor, our baby's heart rate was dropping amongst other things, and Mary told us we needed to go to the hospital. SIDE NOTE- that's another reason we chose Blossom. Incase of emergency, they have admitting privileges at certain hospitals and will take you there in extreme situations thanks to the wonderful Nichelle. Okay, so we ended up at the hospital, obviously not ideal but 100% necessary. Mary was there with us the entire time until our doula took her place. It was a good thing Mary made that call, because I ended up having a placental abruption and Nichelle ended up delivering our baby in her clothes- no time for scrubs! The best part was, I was still able to give 100% natural birth in a hospital setting, which my specific situation needed. We are now pregnant with baby #2, and actually moved to a small town 3 hours away from Phoenix. We are still going to give birth at Blossom, because we wouldn't go anywhere else. We are going to rent an air B n B the last month of pregnancy in Phoenix, because it's THAT important to us. Hopefully this time around everything is healthy and we can give birth as planned in a tub at Blossom. We LOVE Blossom, and can't recommend them enough. Even in the most extreme situations, Mary was there for us. She was calm, Nichelle was calm, our doula was so helpful and we gave birth the way we wanted to. If you want to be educated throughout your pregnancy, have a good relationship with the person delivering your baby, want to be in a calm home-like setting, and know a hospital is an option in only extreme situations, you'd be insane to give birth anywhere but Blossom. Hello there. I'm about a month postpartum with my first child. I came to blossom at 35 weeks pregnant bc I learned that after touring the hospital - it just wasn't where I wanted to deliver. I didn't want to put myself in an environment where I would feel anxious or stressed re-living past traumatic experiences. I also realized I might not have the will-power to "say no" to an epidural at arms length in the heat of the moment. ON-BOARDING EXPERIENCE: I initially sent an email explaining my situation and i got a response from Leah within a business day, if not sooner encouraging me that it wasn't too late to switch to blossom bc they happen to have availability to take me on. I literally asked her dozens of questions and she answered them all thoroughly and patiently, so I moved forward with the consultation. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: I encourage everyone to call their insurance directly and ask very specific questions, especially if you're going with a birth center. I have BCBSAZ and Blossom happens to be contracted with them. I'd already met my deductible and covered at 80/20. My total responsibility came down to $750 up front. I wish I could break it down how we got this number for you, but I really don't remember and don't want to misquote. I will say though, that Blossom was very clear about any other potential financial responsibility after baby is born. After my initial visit, I scheduled out up until my due date. There's two midwives - Mary and Nichelle, so I had a weekly appointment and alternated between them. Whoever is on call is who delivers your baby. I looked forward to each weekly appointment and left feeling great after each one. LABOR: I began I arrived at Blossom at 11:00am and was already 5 cm dilated. The room was already set up. Mary, Anna, and Kyla were all in the office that day. Anna started with me, gave me an IV (bc I was GBS positive) while my husband got me through the surges. Mary had appointments, so she would come in and out at the very beginning, but someone was in the room at all times. Mary was such an answered prayer. Just the way she nurtured me during it, made sure I was hydrated, gave me snacks, spoke words of affirmation to myself and my husband. I mean, just everything I could've needed. I wanted to give up, but Mary and staff were so encouraging. They truly gave me the confidence to keep going. Overall, I felt safe and trusted Mary's expertise. Whether it was to move positions or feel the baby, I just wholeheartedly trusted her. I think that's an important thing to keep in mind...we just don't know how our labor will go, so just trusting the process and trusting these ladies will go such a long way. POSTPARTUM/DISCHARGE: My birth was beautiful, I was able to get through it. However, about an hour after giving birth the ladies noticed that i started to hemorrhage...apparently my uterus wasn't buckling down and getting hard like it needed to. Mary and staff reacted quickly and gave me Pitocin and other medication to help my uterus clamp down. Anna had to feel in my uterus to check for blood clots (most painful thing ever) and took out quite a few. After a while, i was not improving, so Mary called Nichelle to come to Blossom and examen me. Nichelle came right over from the hospital and road in like a knight in shining armor! I mean, she knew exactly what to do, what to say, and how to say it. There was a chance that I needed to go to the hospital and even surgery was an option...but Nichelle explained my options patiently and calmly. It was when she said, "...and hey, if we go to the hospital, we'll go to the hospital -- I'm not leaving you, it'll be me treating you." I felt relief either way. Luckily, after another dose of medication, latching the baby on, and plenty of fluids ... we successfully avoided a trip to the hospital, but again - I trusted her expertise and felt safe in her hands. The next day, Blossom made us breakfast and took their time to properly discharge us. We left around noon or so, we were ready to be in our own home. Their priority was to ensure I was in good health to care for myself and the baby. Anna performed the newborn testing/measuring on the baby and she was so gentle and patient. Also, something I really appreciated is that she debriefed me on everything that happened. I was in shock after everything, my body had experienced a traumatic event, so just hearing her explain to me what happened - helped me process. Overall, we're so happy to have crossed paths with this wonderful place. The staff is truly living their calling and have so much love for their mamas. I gave birth to my daughter last year at Blossom (2012). I had a fabulous water birth. My prenatal care was so caring and detailed, down to what I ate everyday, and how I felt about my pregnancy. I can not imagine ever having a baby anywhere else. After reading the negative review from yesterday, I was just sick to my stomach. Mary and Nichelle, and the whole Blossom team pride themselves on their level of care, and hearing that someone was upset with them was stunning to me.. I can understand a person being upset about the way in which insurance companies treat a claim from an out of network provider. My insurance company hardly paid anything for my care- but there was never any misunderstanding on my part about that from Blossom. Big insurance companies do not like working with out of network providers- that is why they are out of network. The claims are convoluted, and I find they are generally set up to pay as little as possible... If there were mistakes made on claim forms or such, from my experience with Blossom, they were honest mistakes- certainly not in any way to trick or cheat a person from their reimbursement. Even if one were to have to pay the fee for birthing and care at Blossom without insurance, the cost is so much lower than a hospital birth, it can not be compared. If I had had a hospital birth, in network, I would have paid thousands MORE for the process- for the birth alone. Prenatal care would have been even more. I delivered my 3rd and 4th baby with Mary the midwife and Blossom Birth Center. I interviewed over 17 local midwives and birth centers to find the right one for our family. When we met Mary we new instantly she was the one. Her knowledge and trust in the birthing process made the delivery of our children stress free! The children we had before we met Mary, one at home and one in a birth center, as much as they all promised, were full of concerns, mistrust, worry and stress. It was not until we met Mary that we were able to have the birth we always hoped for . In addition her fees were better, she offered more support for the price, and there was no problem. Her assistants were incredibly thoughtful and skilled and went above and beyond to serve us as we birthed and recovered. We would recomend Blossom Birth and Wellness Center to everyone considering birth in a birthing center with an amazing birth team. read more

I definitely recommend Blossom! I am so thankful that Blossom could facilitate the most supported, positive and empowering birth experience I've had. They sure do natural birth WELL. My first son was born at a hospital in 2016, and while it certainly wasn't a horror story it left me with a distaste for the process and once I became pregnant with our second I realized I felt a little bit of anxiety about experiencing that again. I had already started care at a different OB with plans to use a different hospital in hopes to avoid the same experience. But then I looked into Blossom based on recommendations from 3 of my friends, other stories of birth-center births in general, and the recommendation of 2 different doulas. My concern was that I was at risk for "pre-term" labor and I didn't want to end up dumped at a hospital if I went into labor early OR if there was a complication during the birth (You know the stories...) Once I did the tour at Blossom I was confident it was the right place - especially because their OB on staff has rights at the hospital, so if I went early or if there was an emergency, the only thing that would change would be the facility not the providers. I had also been fed-up with the traditional prenatal appts that were 15 mins in/out with no education or interaction. At Blossom there is education, support, and they care about you as a whole person from head to toe, emotionally and physically. I love this model of care. (In fact they even care about the toddler tagging along to appointments! He got to sit on my lap every time we checked baby's heartbeat, which he really enjoyed!) My husband felt so included and informed in the process too. And the birth...was everything I could have asked for. I especially appreciated the constant support, wise ways, strategies for positioning, and the fact that we were fed and nourished throughout the process!! My recovery has been so much easier this time around, which has to do with a lot of things, but one of the big things is the way I was cared for by Blossom during my pregnancy, labor and postpartum. Blossom delivered my daughter naturally when no other place in town would. They were kind, gentle and I had an incredible birth. I was told it was possible that my insurance would not cover this since they are out of network. No big deal. I had issues with my insurance company, but worked with Blossom to work it out. Kashuna was helpful to us. We had paid the total amount for services and ended up getting a very small refund from the insurance company. It was all spelled out in our contract. No confusion for us!
