It turned out to be a nightmare. After 3 days, we were told they needed to discharge him because he did not meet "Medicare criteria" for in patient hospice. Within six days, we had plans for the move to a freestanding facility. My husband passed away the night before the move was to take place. The day before the move was to take place, Hospice in Branford called to make arrangement to move him to their facility and that he "met the criteria". This experience was traumatizing to me and my family. I would discourage anyone from using this organization for their loved one.

She had such a great attitude and went above and beyond, whether it was taking him on fun outings, staying late to take him to a doctor's appointment (even when I said no problem to send him home in a taxi), or noticing when he had a new medical issue that needed attention. She was able to establish rapport and a meaningful relationship with him when most of his other relationships fell away due to his condition. I found Homewatch Caregivers to help fill the gap, initially for driving and errands, but eventually I know it will be more. They have been supporting her for almost two months now. Their caregivers have been consistently on time, patient, and understanding. They're CNAs who not only drive her safely but also make sure she gets to the park, the grocery store, and most importantly, her doctor's appointments. This has brought stability back into her world. The director, Richard, has been exceptional. He took the time to understand my neighbor's personality and needs, and he adjusts staffing thoughtfully as he learns more about her. He's helping us build a foundation so that as her condition progresses, the agency will already know her well and be ready with the right tailored solutions. My parents were determined to live in their big, old house as long as possible and they did, well…read moreinto their 90s. My mother's sudden illness and my father's ongoing decrease in mobility created the situation that they could no longer live in a multi story house independently. We were so fortunate that they had looked into Brightview on New Canaan a month or so before my mother's illness. Within two weeks of the decision to move, and a week after my mother's return from the hospital, they were moved into a bright and sunny 2 bedroom apartment at Brightview. It was an emotional roller coaster for them and it took a team approach by the rest of the family to get all the furniture and their belongings moved in. The staff at Brightview are incredible and make sure that my parents feel valued and are safe and happy. Michele was indispensable in making the transition as smooth as possible. While my parents miss their house and all the living that went on it for 57 years, they now call Brightview their home. They have been there about a month.
