The quality of most of the caretakers are very poor. He doesn't require them to have any certifications and doesn't even give them any training. People come and go and when one of my parents was at Sunshine we experienced some awful caretakers where understanding them was even a challenge. Don't get me wrong there are "a few" and I mean a few experienced good caretakers but not many. You have to be aware who he is sending to care for your loved ones. He sent an overnight caretaker to care for my parent and she fell asleep within the first half hour. She had a very unprofessional appearance as well.

Terrible experience. Installed cameras and caught person stealing. It was the only company that had a supervisor periodically visit to observe firsthand how things were going. Plus, it was reassuring to know that an RN oversees the caregivers. The caregiver placed with my dad, Alisha W., was truly amazing. She was extremely patient and upbeat when faced with challenging circumstances. She had such a great attitude and went above and beyond, whether it was taking him on fun outings, staying late to take him to a doctor's appointment (even when I said no problem to send him home in a taxi), or noticing when he had a new medical issue that needed attention. She was able to establish rapport and a meaningful relationship with him when most of his other relationships fell away due to his condition. She even managed to make him feel comfortable using some personal care products for the first time, which was quite a feat.I feel so lucky to have Alisha in my dad's life! The company was also efficient and communicative with scheduling information and billing. Top-notch.

How saddened and disappointed we felt regarding our mother's stay at Notre Dame. The disrespect,…read morelack of communication, unhealthy food, and unethical behaviors were unlike anything we have seen. And we could compare her treatment to other facilities because at age 94, she had experienced other rehabilitation centers. The deceit began with the promise of a private room; however, unbeknownst to us it was only for a few days, then she would be transferred to a room with a roommate, but sharing a tiny 1/2 bathroom with two other patients. AND we would only be able to see her during mealtimes which was unacceptable to us as we were very involved in all aspects of her care. We were not told about the" short term"private room. We never saw a happy face, residents being encouraged to go outdoors, no activities, and the staff was cold and disrespectful. One actually came into mom's room without proper covering and proceeded to throw on a patient garment, then pulled down her mask and started to scream at us because we asked for help taking mom to the bathroom. When incidents were reported, nothing was done. As a Catholic and a former volunteer at the Sisters of Life facility in Stamford, I can honestly say that I would never send a loved one to Notre Dame. We transferred our mother to another facility and she was better cared for, we were able to follow her care plan, the food was healthier, and our mother and we were treated with kindness and compassion. Do NOT send a loved one to Notre Dame. The holy atmosphere begins in the chapel and stays there. There are many other choices that are not perfect, but they are compassionate, capable, and you will have some peace of mind that your loved one is being cared for with dignity as required by Connecticut Law. Our mom is now home and doing well. We lost many days at Notre Dame: she could have been home sooner.

He wasn't able to speak and was confined to a wheelchair at the time. Everyone seemed so lovely and caring when we came to take him to my grandmothers funeral. I remember an orderly grabbing his hand as we wheeled him out. Flash forward to January this year, my grandfather, who has regained his ability to speak, out of the blue told my father that an orderly there came into his room in the middle of the night, SLAPPED HIM IN THE FACE; and told him "I'm not your slave". What provoked this I don't know. My grandfather couldn't walk, talk or do anything himself. We sent him there at the worst time of our lives as well as his and are COMPLETELY disheartened to learn about this. Please do not send your loved ones here

Any time we came to visit, there was a happy buzz in the air. Not only is every single person on staff highly trained and always upbeat, but the facility is very pretty, nicely decorated and cozy, inside and out. Benchmark helped us get a speedy move-in date, and did everything they could to keep our mother, who was in memory care, busy and feeling loved. We were delighted by the constant array of events that were planned for the residents. One of our favorites was the Brazilian jazz lunch that had a huge live band a buffet to fit the theme. Many people got up to dance and all the residents were smiling. We noticed that all the staffers went out of their way to talk to all residents in the halls when passing by - always sharing a witty line to help the residents feel a part of a larger community. We feel it takes a special understanding of this community to do a great job and it comes from the top down. The company does a fine job on all levels. Highly recommended! Thank you again to all at Benchmark for taking great care of our mother and giving our family peace of mind during a difficult time. As they say, it takes a village- and Benchmark is best village. Fondly, the Haydens
