Kroger in Hinton is a lifeline for the community. It's the only "big name" chain supermarket…read morearound, possibly in the county (we are a one stoplight town). So in addition to being an important resource it is also a major employer. It's definitely aging in terms of the building but it is well kept up otherwise. I personally have not seen anything horrible (which I have in other places/other supermarkets). The staff is very kind and helpful. This Kroger carries a surprisingly good assortment of "hippie" products, the sort of thing you find at Whole Foods (which don't exist in West Virginia). It has a good assortment of organic and vegetarian items, as well as local niche offerings including milk in glass bottles, and (fairly) local sausage and beef. They also often carry some 'chi-chi' items, especially in the arena of pickles and condiments and sauces; I got the Truff hot sauce there a while back, and today I picked up some pretty fabulous looking pickles. All in all, as Coastal "Elites" we find most of our needs met pretty well by this small town Kroger. Would I like to see it upgraded? Of course! But I think they are doing a good job serving the town.

It's hard to be upset with a Walmart that tolerates overnight parking. This one, according to…read morervparky.com, does. So after carefully checking the lot for signs prohibiting overnight parking, we found a spot and went inside. We shopped for a few snacks and found everything to be in good condition. No problem with the "lunch meats" area and the candy. Everything well stocked. After paying for our stuff at the self-checkout (no staffed check out lanes this evening), we returned to the campervan. I moved into a corner of the lot where it would be a bit quieter. After locking up and settling in, we had a peaceful night and were not disturbed. The food turned out to be a wonderful surprise for all of us! I believe my Philly Steak sandwich was $6.99. The prices are from a decade ago. If you're looking for breakfast or lunch in the Pipestem State Park, WV area, this is the place.

Had a horrible experience with this store and/or Kroger corporate. I'm not sure who is at fault…read morebut, ultimately, it should be resolved by this Kroger. I drove 30+ minutes late at night to pick up things for a special breakfast. Website said store was open till midnight each day. Arrived 11:02pm. Store was closed. Sign on door says store is open 7-11 each day, different from website. Called store (confirmed it was right one) to find out what was going on and which was right, or if store was open but I just failed to get in for some reason. Asked automated system for hours. It said 7-10 each day. So now we have three different sets of hours. While doing this, two other cars, unrelated to each other, pulled up and people tried and failed to enter the store. You web site and phone system both have different store hours listed than the ones listed on the door. So three sets of hours and no idea what's right. You are doing a disservice to your customers. I wasted more than an hour of my time and, more importantly, don't have what I need for a special breakfast. How many people show up each night thinking you are open? How long has this been incorrect? When will it be fixed. We do like the store, but in this day and age of technology, there is no excuse for publishing three sets of hours, two of which are incorrect and leave people sitting in your parking lot late at night after having driven far from home.
