There is a parking lot and we were able to find parking but I'm sure it gets full at peak times. We enjoyed the hike and the waterfalls. It was in late May so there were quite a few people there. When you park there is a kiosk to pay that takes credit cards. At the start of the trail there is a bathroom that is just a big outhouse. It was a little rough so I recommend not using it if you get sick easy. The hike is short and easy to the water. When you get there it is a little tough climbing over rocks and tree roots. We spend time in the water. It was not deep anywhere we were so not really swimming just cooling off or sun tanning on the rocks.

It should be noted that the trail is fixed and there are man made bridges and stuff, and only certain umber of people are allowed at a time for safety reasons. Since the return flight was already booked, couldn't come back, so decided to hike up the adjoining mountain. Its a tough hike, and it was cold when I left, so had a really think jacket on, but the climb really made me sweat, and the jacket was a huge burden....lol.... It was such a beautiful hike. Its a little hard as the path is left as is, as in - its not like there are steps, or safety measures. There are warnings at places , but other than that, it is raw and completely natural forest with paths made by real people who have hiked and nothing else to depend on. So you will see many paths too criss-crossing each other, some more worn than others for obvious reasons. There is one thing though, markers on the trees, blue in color, because it is soo easy to loose the path here. There are plenty of trees, and you can hear all kinds of birds, I think it was October month. Climb up to a beautiful scenery. Its an adventure worth climbing!

The ladies at the admission booth were friendly, welcoming, and helpful in directing us where to go. Be prepared for the walk of a lifetime! There are some steep hills and plenty of uphill and downhill sections, but the breathtaking views make every step worth it. The scenery is simply spectacular. A few tips for visitors: wear comfortable hiking or walking shoes, bring plenty of water, strollers are not recommended, a rain jacket isn't really necessary; you'll only encounter a little mist when passing by the large cascade, if you're traveling with toddlers, a good hiking backpack carrier is highly recommended, bring a handheld or neck fan because you'll definitely work up a sweat, don't forget sunscreen and bug spray. Take your time, enjoy the incredible natural beauty, and soak in the experience. This is a place I would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting the area!

It is on a mountain so you gain a lot of elevation during the hike which can make it pretty tiring. It is relentless, but just keep thinking about the view and you'll eventually make it to the top before you know it. The view is completely worth it. It took us about 1.5 hours to hike up and about 1 hour to get down going along the same trail. I'd suggest bringing water, snacks, and food to enjoy at the top of the mountain. You'll also want some time to sit and enjoy the views.

Being able to drive up and park was perfect for my family and I since I have young kids. It's a short distance walk from the parking area. There are two lookouts, both fenced in. The first lookout was smaller and has a bench. The second lookout was wide. It's on a huge boulder and the views were stunning. The pictures and videos don't do it any justice, you have to see it for yourselves. There are views of the White Mountains, Saco River Valley, and Echo Lake. This is also a popular place for people to rock and ice climb. I'm glad we got to check it out!

The Madison…read moreBoulder is a ~5,000 ton glacial erratic made of granite - which makes sense since it's found in the Granite State lol. Of course, the pictures don't do it justice and you can't really fathom the size just by reading the stats alone - it's an awe inspiring sight that you have to see to believe! The boulder measures 87 feet long, 23 feet tall, and 37 feet wide. Also, the boulder is partially buried at about 10-12 feet underground! And recently scientists have been able to determine that the boulder is around 14,000 years old. Left behind all those years ago by a retreating glacier. You'll find it down a dirt road with a small, rough dirt parking lot - there are some large, deep potholes so I recommend to drive slow and careful, especially with low clearance vehicles. But it's doable. A short, very flat hike is required along a dirt road but it's well maintained and easy - about 1/2 mile one way. If you visit in fall, you'll be treated to some lovely colors along the way! I visited twice - mid to late October 2021 and early October 2023. Mid to late October had much more colors than early October but it also varies from year to year. You'll find the boulder on the edge of the White Mountain National Forest and only a few miles away from The Kanc - a famous highway in NH for the fall colors. And there are lots of other attractions in the area - lots of rivers and vistas and things like that - as well as the historic Albany Covered Bridge which is a must see (less than 10 miles away). It's free to visit and park - be aware there aren't any restrooms in the area. Google maps will take you right to it - but signal is nonexistent in the area so I recommend to download offline maps before you come. Sadly, on my last visit, someone had put graffiti in several places on the boulder- but a park ranger was there to clean it up. Hopefully they were able to get it removed. I'll never understand why people feel the need to deface natural wonders like that - breaks my heart every time.

Rocks roots and…read more ruts Ripley Falls is a 100 foot high waterfall that takes on several different personalites. In the late summer and fall it is a quiet and well behaved little falls. A nice place to hike out with the kids, dogs and grandpa and have a picnic. However in the spring when the snows in the mountains start to melt it becomes raging torrent. The noise is actually deafening. In the winter in frequently freezes and huge icicles hang off it. The actually hike to get to the falls is only a half a mile and in the proper conditions is quite easy. However the trail frequently is wet and broken and ice forms easily so it's a bit more difficult than it looks. A woman I met on the trail said that this trail has a reputation as a leg breaker because of all the loose rocks and wet and slippery roots. Of course many other trails connect so you can hike for days if you want. The falls is just a starting point to far more rugged and interesting places and few people turn back here. Ripley Falls is just one of the many waterfalls in the area and a pleasant little diversion from more strenuous hiking. In the spring it is pretty impressive but it's still but still nice even in periods of low water. A nice spot to visit as long as you don't have you expectations too high.

I managed to not fall off the hiking trail in foot deep snow and made it back here this summer for some waterfall repelling. Waterfall repelling was a fun experience. Repelling next to the falls that is. I still got soaked in 55 degree water.
