Larry Stempky was beyond helpful. I had a home project go south and Larry walked me thru it and got me back on the right track!!

Very, very poor customer service!!!!! I purchased a Whirlpool water softener online through the Gaylord store. It was delivered by FedEx within 4 days. However, it was delivered tipped on it's side (horizontally) which damages the internal components. I refused it and it never even was unloaded from the truck. The next day, I called the store to explain the situation. After much time spent on hold and being bounced from one associate to another, I finally asked for a manager. Again, many minutes of holding, I finally spoke with Paige and explained my situation to her. She took my order # and information and said that she would investigate and call me back. I waited patiently for 3 days, no call back!!! I then called the store again and was on hold for minutes again. She told me that I could purchase another one again or wait up to 10 days for a refund on my card, then purchase another one! I told her that I would not purchase another one, that I just wanted a new softener to replace the one that was shipped improperly. (FedEx's fault). Finally, I asked her to let me speak with someone higher up the management chain. After waiting on hold once again, I spoke with Gary. Explained everything once again and he assured me that he would look into it and get back with me. He offered compensation for the issue and I patiently waited once again. This was on a Friday, it's now the following Tuesday and I've heard nothing back from him! Getting a bit peeved, I called the store again. Another 10 minutes of being bounced around and put on hold, waiting to speak with Gary! Finally, a female associate said "he must be busy" and took my name and #, saying that he would return my call. 5 hours later and haven't heard anything again! I was in management with Kmart for many years and if I would have treated a paying customer this way, I'm sure that I would have received severe repricussions! I guess that I might have to turn to a source of media to get their attention and be treated properly! I've wrote everything down, so I can back up what I'm saying! I had Lowes install a exterior door with storm door and sidelites and they weren't prepared or knowledgeable on issues that came about during install. Im so disappointed in the work and will never use Lowes again for installs of any kind! Under threshold due to leaking which I told them about during ordering the wood was rotted and they had to scramble to find a piece of wood and when he cut my flooring he cut too much but hid it under the rug so i didn't see it right away. I spent alot on this door and am so angry and disappointed. I dont recommend at least not thru the store I used. read more

I purchased a $61 dollar smoke alarm, with cash. I assumed that the check out clerk placed the receipt in the bag when I checked out. Two days later tried to return the alarm for a different alarm. Store refused to exchange the item, refund my money, or give me a store credit, without a receipt. "No exceptions." No return, no store credit, no satisfaction. All future home improvements purchases will be made at Home Depot. read more

I love this Lowe's! It does get busy but they have a great selection on so many things that you won't find at HD. Their employees have always been fun to deal with and helpful. Great prices in the garden section in the summer. I've never had to return a dying plant or bush. I bought a beautiful water fountain for 2/3 off at the end of season and it has held up well. They have a huge Christmas selection too. The main thing is the nice employees they work hard, I'm sure but they don't show it. read more

This is not specific to Lowe's in Gaylord but to the Lowe's online system. I attempted to sign up my father for the Veteran's Discount. All of the information was entered correctly and did not work. I called Lowe's "customer service" to get it solved over the phone. I was happy to provide the information or even photos of the paperwork (discharge papers, etc). I was told we must go to Lowe's physically to show them the papers. It is Northern Michigan in the winter. My elderly father is not going to drive 2 hours in the snow just to fix a problem that Lowe's has in their system. Their customer support is awful and does nothing more than canned answers. They won't help a Vet and I'm not going to give them any business and neither will my father. I hope others consider alternative options to Lowes. They do not deserve your business. read more
