Lee gave us such an amazing offer on one that was too great to pass up and just buy it. The flute was so beautiful, along with a case. I can not express the amount of thankfulness we are to him. On top of everything, we found out that he offers classes. He is very patient, excited about what he does, and the price of his equipment is amazing. This place is a joke! The inventory is abysmal and the owner, Lee, is a transparent, pushy salesman who reeks of desperation. I came in looking for a guitar on a Saturday which wasn't in stock. After waiting around for him to call his "guy," Lee said he could possibly order it. Cool. He didn't get back to me until Monday afternoon around 4. By then I had already found what I was looking for at another dealer. After I thanked Lee for trying to find what I was looking for, I inquired about getting a guitar repaired at his shop. Instead of hopping on the chance to secure some business for his clearly struggling store, he decided that was the best time to rant about the "hard work he did" to find the guitar and how it was "unfair that I didn't want to buy it from him." (even though no order had been placed on my end) He didn't even give me a quote for repairs, he just whined about losing a sale to a better equipped business. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. He could have made a quick buck on a few guitar repairs and possibly earned additional business if he didn't feel the need to lecture customers about their purchasing habits. Don't let the absence of a website trick you into believing this place must rely on strong word of mouth to get by. Other than an out of place Ariana Grande drum head, Lowe's Music has nothing worth checking out. It's cramped, unorganized, and is a perfect example of incompetent ownership that is keeping large stores like Guitar Center thriving. While I'm all for supporting local businesses, this is one SVC shop that I wont feel sorry for after the owner runs it into the ground. read more

I noticed the many positive reviews for this place, and I felt I needed to tell my piece to bring a little reality so that people can make an informed decision. I brought my young 5 year old son here a while back with the intention of starting violin lessons (which he was very excited about) and the guy who I believe was the manager spent the whole time trying to convince him to learn the drums instead - right in front of me. He said they were way cooler. Don't do that to your customers man. I honestly believe this guy might be great with adults who share a similar mindset (rock culture) and are fine with an overbearing personality, but if you want to bring your child here to learn a band instrument, violin, or anything other than drums and possibly rock guitar, I would definitely look elsewhere. read more

Best music store in town. My sons and I have shopped there for the past 10 years, at least! This past Christmas I was looking for a specific foot pedal for my son but couldn't get to the store as I had just had a hip replacement. Lee went out of his way to come to my home so I could pay him, on Christmas Eve, and ordered it for me and made my son sooooo happy as Santa was able to get him his most wanted foot pedal. Lowe's Music may not overwhelm you with its size or depth of inventory, but if you are sick and tired of catering to large corporate stores that don't have a real community connection and no consistency with staff, this is the place to go. I have only been a customer for about three years, but during that time, I have received great service from Lee as well as getting to know a pretty cool guy, which has led me to the purchase of a high-end drum set, bass guitar (Special Ordered) and bass amp, as well as occasional strings, stands, and other stuff. There's always different stuff going in and out, new and used. Because of this, I find myself dropping by just to say "hi" and see if I run across anything interesting. maybe you will too. I'm sort of a gear junkie and enjoy playing several instruments or trying to anyway, so chances of me finding something are pretty good. Lowe's hours may not be like those of corporate and larger stores, but I'll point all my musical-related purchases to Lowe's. Lee always takes the time to help me out with purchases I'm looking for. He's my recommendation for colleges and even his old guitar instructor too. I've gotten good deals over the years. I'v known him for about since I started playing guitar, I have perfect pitch these days and wrote a book about it too. My favorite part about Lee is that he is accommodating with any budget and knows ins and outs about instruments. When he used to string my guitar it was perfectly restrung. I have been coming to Lowe's Music for nearly ten years and I will forever be a customer. I first started coming here when my father bought me my first drum kit when I was 12 years old. At the time, I knew NOTHING about drums and I had no idea where to start. Luckily I lived right down the street from Lowe's music and any time I had a question I was able to take a walk down to Lowe's and talk to the owner Lee about drums. Lee has always been very nice and informative and he taught me nearly everything I know about drumming today. Since then, I have always bought all my gear from Lowe's. The prices are great and they have nearly everything a musician could ever need and if they don't have it they can get it for you. Unfortunately I had to sell my drums, but I still do come in to Lowe's from time to time for other music related things like my most recent purchase which was a Ukulele and I have never been disappointed. So if you are looking for a great music store then come here! The owner Lee is very helpful and informative and his prices are amazing. Not only that, when you buy from him you are supporting a local business rather then going to Guitar Center and supporting corrupt big corporations. read more

I always come here if I need emergency strings when I am up here in Valencia at my parents'. I'm always shocked that a music store of this size carry the kind of violin strings I use. a great independently run shop. been by a few times in the past few weeks as a new romantic interest got me into playing my guitar again. I needed a few high E strings, and Lee gave me 3 different brands (for a price half what i was expecting). I liked this a lot as it suggests that he was letting me determine for myself which brand I found the most durable (I eat E strings due to my playing methods and he set me up with a nice thick 13 gauge) so that I might stick with that brand in the future were i to determine one better than the others. this tells me he is far more interested in what makes his customers happy than what makes him a buck. totally cool. i inquired about a fab natural wood grain electric on the wall- Lee asked if i was okay with getting it down myself, which i was- else I am certain he would have taken it down for me. really liked that he did not assume on way or the other and insist upon it. I inquired about what made a better guitar and he went through the list in an itemized fashion, identifying and educating me on every feature which made for a superior guitar, and what determined its price. i came out of this brief purchase of more E strings far more knowledgeable about guitar design. A+ in all fairness, guitar center is pretty cool, but Lee's shop is cooler. when i left today i said 'see you probably sooner than i expect to' because i keep on coming back. if i keep on coming back, clearly i am happy with my experiences here. This place is a rare gem. I needed a quick repair of a Fender Strat that I intended to sell. I had no idea what was wrong, but it wouldn't send sound to the amp. After reading Yelp reviews, and not wanting to get charged more for the repair than the guitar was worth (Guitar Center), I went to Lowe's Music. Excellent decision. Lee was friendly and personable, and immediately tried to solve the problem for me. He tested it and even opened it to see if wires were loose. He unwrapped two new jacks and hooked them up to see if that was the issue. He could have easily charged me for all the time he spent, and for the jacks (not the problem after all) but he didn't. Since we couldn't find the problem, I left the guitar there for his technician to bench check and repair the next time he was in. If the repair was going to exceed an amount that made it worth the money, he wouldn't have the tech do it. When I returned after the guitar was ready, he charged me what we had agreed on, even though it really should have been more. That kind of integrity and honesty is all too rare these days. He even replaced a missing string, tightened the neck and tuned it for no extra charge. I couldn't have had a better experience dealing with Lee and would urge everyone to support this amazing local business. read more

I've been doing business with Lowe's for almost 20 years! I'm happy to see they're still around considering the corporate giants destroying the mom and pop shops. Lee is a great guy and he exudes rock n' roll. I bought a guitar from him and he hooked me up with upgraded tuners and a setup. He could have easily charged for that. Lowe's is a wonderful resource for all musician's in the SCV. Prices are reasonable and on top of it all, you get the personalized attention that you will probably want when shopping for your instruments and accessories, they really know their instruments unlike some of the bigger chains. I should also add that Lowe's offers private lessons and private practice rooms. I haven't used the lessons, but I am pretty confident that they are worth it based upon my overall experience here. read more

Not a huge selection, but he often has interesting stuff you just won't find at a place like GC. I have picked up pedals from the 80's and 0's and they just sound better than today's reproductions! I'm not sure why this business doesn't have more reviews because it's pretty spectacular. My boyfriend is the musician and I am just a huge fan and love anything about it. He has taken both his 6-string and 7-string (with a Floyd-Rose bridge no less!) guitars to Lee and has had nothing but great experiences. The ONLY reason my boyfriend bothered with Guitar Center is for the strings. They were going to charge $80 for a string change all because of a "special" bridge!! Lee did it for a fraction of the price and didn't even flinch at the obstacle. On top of that, Lee told my boyfriend that he'd start carrying the type of strings he liked. We purchased a used Selmer Soprano Saxophone from Lee's store for my daughter. The transaction went smoothly and Lee was very informative and communicated all the details very clearly. The Sax arrived in great condition, however, was missing a small plastic button. Lee made multiple calls to Selmer in order to replace the button and was very diligent in the process. The gentleman I spoke to had his sunglasses on the whole time and as we spoke he was scrolling through his phone and sending text messages. He wasn't the most pleasant of people either. This place is a great store but terrible instrument repair. I turned my instrument twice and it still wasn't fixed! The first time, the problem wasn't fixed at all. The second time, the repair lasted about 2 days before breaking down again. Don't go to this place for your repairs. read more
