The event happened to take place on an abnormally hot day in early May so the outdoor/indoor space was perfect. There were plenty of tables and chairs available and the staff was really helpful. There aren't that many toys compared to the Spartan Recreation Center (though that one isn't free), but it was still a good time for my kiddos to run around and play on the bleachers.

My daughter was too shy and scared to go to the instructor's place because even tho we were only several steps away from her, she ignored us. I could not change another class for her because I was told that it is considered refund and they could not refund me anything. But I would not dare to take my daughter to that cold class again to "try" as the front desk staff recommended us to do it. Perhaps some sort of racism, but it's fine, keep going your way.

So on a cold, non-rainy day, we took the kiddo there to see if it was any good. Keep in mind that it's reserved for the preschool during the week/business hours, but on the weekend, it was a nice change of scenery. They had a few play structures, on a mulch and rubberized area. Sure, parental guidance is required, and you really should have a "toddler" kiddo here... but for the kiddo, she enjoyed the slides, the "kitchen" and the tires. She being the expert of walking on narrow surfaces, I think enjoyed the areas like a balance beam master in training. If you have been everywhere, and you want a playground that is a nice scenery change, here's one more to add to the list. Also, nearby is Red Mill Burger, so there's that you could be eating, while your kiddo is playing to their heart's delight.

It's tucked in a residential area so it's not surprising that I missed it. This is a good sized rental with different rooms. There is a spacious kitchen and a loading area nearby that makes it easy to get things in and out. Aside from a large room for seating, another room with gaming tables, and the gym, there's also a playground and ball field outside. Along with all of that, there was a staff member around to answer questions and assist. After the event, I immediately looked up rates and found them to be very reasonable. I wouldn't be surprised if I booked it for an event in the future. Parking is limited in proportion to the amount of people the facility and outdoor space. That's the only real downside I identified but that can be manageable.

As we got closer to the building there was a guy standing in the middle of the road, munching on a sandwich, and directing cars to parking slots....funny. The center was having a vintage market this weekend and what a pleasant surprise it was. The place is larger than it looks. Every room was filled to the brim with vintage goodies presented by individual vendors. The selection was wonderful and the prices reasonable. The vendors are so nice and willing to educate you about their collections. One gentleman sells vintage Christmas cards and buttons. I bought a few lovely cards (no one does graphics like this anymore) and plan on framing them whenever I find some nice antique frames. I also found a vintage pin that looks just like my doggies. I love antiquing but have found that the regular antique shops are getting pretentious (everything behind locked glass) and expensive. You can come to the LCCC, have fun conversations, and take home some treasures. They also have a flea market every few months.

Getting here is pretty easy, it's fairly close to the Dick's on Lake City. Parking is another story. The building has about a dozen parking spots and you'll often see cars double parked (the horror). Otherwise you're looking at street parking which can take you rather far away. Once you do find some parking far away, be sure to see if it's a "30mins load" or if there's a "No Parking" sign anywhere. The building itself is old and tired, with well-worn furniture in the waiting area and office. The restrooms are clean though. The large auditorium reminds me of a cafeteria, especially since they set up long folding tables for people to show their wares. There is a small cafe that will sell coffee, donuts, and sandwiches for a couple bucks. I like coming here because there is always something different at the flea market. One on hand, you'll get the stuff that is priced high (for my taste) of antique items such as coins, toys, and jewelry. On the other, you'll see stuff that is priced rather low which you don't need to buy so you don't but you so regret it later (sigh). Then there's a bunch of stuff in the middle that doesn't really land on your radar for whatever reason but it's still fun to wander around and browse a couple laps. You can show up early or on time to score good parking, but the tables don't really fill until maybe 2hrs after the official start time. Then it may get a little crowded with more buyers showing up. The folks at the vendor tables and staffing the cafe/office are super sweet and nice. They always have interesting stories to tell about their items. It's an overall relaxed vibe for the people like me who hope to find something really cool. :)

This is the only Jewish organization I've ever been affiliated with and it is the first one to…read morefully embrace my Jewishness and me as a Jew. That was about fourteen years ago. My family joined to help my daughter form her own sense of Jewish identity which she started asking about when she was eight. She now has a sense of Jewish identity that would never have been so well formed had we not engaged with this community. And I have a much deeper understanding of my own relationship with Judaism. I'm Jewish because my father was Jewish and I choose to be a Jew, my mother never converted; they were both firm atheists. The Overbrook delicatessen was my temple, ritual language: Yiddish, ritual foods: lox and other smoked fish, ritual giving: Israel Fund - can on the counter next to the register. Humor was the practice. I've been teaching in the Shalom Sunday school for seven or eight years now and I love the inclusivity and diversity even within our own tribe. This is the place to be Jewish if you love the history, culture and holidays but don't like the irrational parts.
