I took my favorite acoustic guitar in primarily because I had worn out the frets over the past 20 years. RJ described in great detail how he would remove and replace the old frets. I was also having some issues with the electronics, and he offered some good options for replacing them. I couldn't be more pleased with the result. When I picked up the guitar after all of that work (new frets, pickup, pre-amp, and set-up), RJ spent more than an hour with me making sure the set-up was just the way I wanted. He told me to play it hard for a couple of weeks and come back if there were any issues. Make sure you read the website and understand the process for working with them. This is not a big corporation with a back room full of amateur guitar techs. This is a small business with legit luthiers who do fantastic work. read more

I rate RJ's setup work up with the best I've found in Central Florida. This guitar is an Enya X3 Pro full size acoustic electric guitar, and the first of its brand and model either of us have ever played or worked on. I bought it sight-unseen on a whim and it arrived with high action, similar to a new Martin guitar. I corrected that to a certain extent to make it playable for me, and give it a chance to measure up to a go or no-go keeper for me. I decided to keep it so I made an appointment with RJ to do a proper setup. I live around the corner from LRC Guitars. On my appointment date I visited RJ at the prescribed time. Let me say that he is a very busy man. He was working on a guitar when I arrived, surrounded by pending work, and stopped to greet me and take a look at the Enya I brought. He had a few suggestions to make the guitar better than a simple setup would make it. Thanking him for that we agreed to see what a setup would do for me. My wife picked up the guitar and RJ made a comment to her that he hoped I'd like his work. This message is to tell him I do, and he will be the guy who handles any future work I have. I had two guitars worked on here and was very happy with the results. Everyone is really nice. You have to set an appointment on the website before dropping off or picking up your guitars. They don't really do retail here, just guitar repair and setup. I had a re-fret done on my acoustic guitar and it came out like new. read more

Repeat customer here. Recently, I purchased a Gibson 50's Reissue J-45 that I had my eye on for several weeks. I immediately noticed after ordering and receiving shipment that there was a weird buzzing sound emanating from the body of the guitar. After consulting with several technically-inclined musician friends, it was determined that a brace needed re-gluing, which is not a simple job that you can just bring to any run of the mill local guitar shop. This was a job for a Master Luthier. There's no other game in town than LRC Guitars, hands down. During the timeline of repairs, it was discovered that the size and scope of the repair had to be greatly expanded. Not one, but 2 braces, needed re-gluing. Then it was discovered that there was intonation issues originating from the bridge plate, requiring a remove and re-glue, thus then requiring a full setup, plus removal and reset of the built-in LR Baggs pickup system. This went from a relatively simple job to an issue of complexity that my mind simply couldn't wrap itself around. I'm just a player and have zero technical ability other than changing my own strings. This supplemental work needed caused several unforeseen delays in the repairs. Whenever I voiced frustration with the delays, the owner, RJ Colton, was quickly able to respond, acknowledge my frustration, address my concerns, bring me up to speed on the updated scope, and knock my temper back down to earth. A Master Luthier who also has warmth, candidness, and customer service skills is a diamond in the rough. Work is done. While we were at it, we had a 2nd pickguard installed to give it that classic 50's Cash / Everly Brothers ascetic, as icing on the cake. The attention to detail is impeccable, and LRC was able to turn this limping foal into a fully functioning workhorse ready for the road. Kudos to RJ, Kristen, Nick and the entire team on another job well done. There have been a lot of music store closures lately, most notably the Sam Ash on Colonial Drive in Orlando, who employed a fantastic guitar tech with a large book of business, including me. This has caused a massive influx of customer traffic to LRC. RJ Colton has taken a ton of weight on his shoulders, so my hope and prayer for LRC is that he can duplicate and triplicate himself to alleviate the immense burden that's pressed squarely upon him. This gentleman has to fit 800 pounds of crap into a 5 pound bag, everyday, while maintaining existing service contracts with countless businesses and professionals all over the music and entertainment industry nationwide, while at the same time catering to individual local customers. Many musicians are notoriously difficult and prickly people to deal with on any level, whether a newbie playing Open Mic all the way up to a seasoned veteran headlining a 20,000 seat arena. Any mere mortal would crack under that kind of pressure. From a customer's perspective, I fell way short, miserably, in exercising patience, understanding and kindness during this process, and I am deeply ashamed and sorry for that. The unforeseen delays started causing my brain to melt, making me act and communicate erratically, when my wanton anger at the situation could have and should have been directed at the actual list of potential responsible parties: either Gibson for allowing a guitar to be released from their factory in the shape it was in, the retailer who sold a lemon, or most realistically UPS for potentially causing these needed repairs after a haphazard delivery (incidences of UPS damaging guitars in transit are known and well-documented), not the repair shop who was just simply trying to help a customer. In conclusion, I wish LRC Guitars nothing but continued, and much deserved, success in the future and will continue to recommend their repair and setup services to all of my musician friends and family. After dropping off my Taylor 514CE guitar last September'2024, I finally received it back (3/1/2025) after five months of waiting. After Taylor stated they would not cover a new pickup under warranty, LRC Guitars received authorization from me to replace the defective Taylor pickup with a new LR Baggs pickup, replace the frets, and flatten the fret board. I paid the entire cost of the work upfront. It was very difficult to get status from them. They claimed their responses to my requests were getting rejected by my e-mail server (in their defense they did send me a copy of one of the rejection messages). Even so, they could have called me with status believing I hadn't received any of their e-mail status responses. They did call once but I had requested status several times which basically went unanswered (other than by their automated generic e-mail responses which were 'not' rejected by my e-mail server ???). When I finally went to pick up my guitar, I had mentioned that it took quite a while for them to complete the work - at which time I was literally told I had been a "pain in the ass". I may be old school, but during my 51-year working career, I've never spoken to any customers like that - not even the ones that were a "pain in the ass". The work they did perform was good (although I thought they were going to touch up the spots on the body where the varnish was peeling off. I didn't get that in writing and I'm not 100% sure we had initially agreed to that - so I will give them the benefit of doubt, but it would have been nice - especially considering that I was without my guitar for 5 months, if they had touched up the body a little). My overall experience was stressful. I felt their prices were a bit high and their Customer Service was very poor. I do not like writing bad reviews about anybody but felt I was given 'low priority' and ultimately 'disrespected'. I will remove this review in a few months but definitely not be a returning customer. read more

I could not have had a more positive experience with LRC Guitars. I brought in an acoustic with a neck splintered to the point of almost being split in two. RJ did a fantastic and clean job, and truly went above and beyond in working and talking with me. I would not consider going anywhere else for any guitar needs! RJ knows guitars! I don't say that easily. I've been driving my guitars to Atlanta for years to get them worked on. Now that I have found LRC Guitars I will no longer be doing that. Getting my guitars back in perfect playing condition is great, but sitting in his shop and talking guitars is the real bonus. I took in a Taylor Baby that has sat out 365 days a year for over 10 years, a 12 String that I forgot about for years and my G&L Savannah Bluesboy. All very different guitars and all came back to ready to be played again. I'm looking forward to my next visit! read more
