I had that quote beefier the end of the business day emailed to me! I called him on Wednesday evening to accept the quote and schedule for a couple of weeks out (his first available opening). He called back the next day to let me know that he got the message. He also asked if I wanted to have the work performed the following Wednesday since he had an opening become available but understood if o wished to wait until the original date thy he provided since some heavy furniture needed to move. I told him the sooner the better. His crew was there that Wednesday morning. They covered everything in plastic, went over a few things with me and i asked them to wood fill 2 small splintered areas which they did. By Friday, the 3rd coat of polyurethane was down and they removed all the plastic except on 2 doorways which I asked them to leave up. Minimal dust compared to previous jobs at other places I have owned. Cabinets, countertops and mounted television were all covered. The crew vacuumed several times as well. Floors look very nice. I highly recommend Charter Oak Flooring. I have several people that will be reaching out to him for quotes already after my experience.

We also discussed painting cabinets, eyeing a mid-March start. PRICING & COMMUNICATION (FEB 26-27) We received only a "line item overview," no per-task costs. Repeated requests for a true breakdown were never fulfilled. Sue, the project manager, offered no real help with fixture selection (e.g., she told us to "use the filters" on a website we'd already tried). TIMELINE DISCONNECT (FEB 28) Keith disclosed late that the countertop needed a 10-business-day lead time and that subsequent tasks would push the project to around three weeks--far beyond our hoped-for one-week timeframe. CONTRACT & SCOPE OMISSIONS (MAR 12-21) After I canceled a meeting, Keith declined to email the contract, insisting on another in-person appointment. We finally reviewed it on March 15 but discovered the trashcan insert was omitted. Keith apologized yet still never provided a detailed cost breakdown. TILE PROBLEMS (SPRING 2024-MAY 2025) Several tiles were laid out improperly, and two had extra-wide grout lines. Keith's crew returned weeks later, but he sent a finish carpenter, not a tiler, leaving flaws. They redid those tiles again in May 2025 without Keith supervising. The tiler also used floor leveler to raise part of our century-old floor several inches--without our consent--then tried to charge extra and later failed to remove it from the invoice promptly. COUNTERTOP & BACKSPLASH ISSUES (FEB-MAY 2025) Small items rolled off the countertop's edge. By April, the section over the dishwasher sagged, leaving a gap. Keith finally added a bracket in May, admitting it should have been done initially. For the backsplash, his crew broke the grey-white marble pattern without asking, substituting grey for white near the edge. Keith insisted the white pieces were "too small" to cut, which felt untrue, and he never consulted us. OTHER UNPROFESSIONAL INCIDENTS Keith brought up politics (specifically, Trump) during contract signing, which felt inappropriate. One day, his workers cut quartz with our windows open, blanketing our downstairs in dust, for which he offered $200. A worker also smoked in our backyard after we explicitly said no. FINAL INVOICE & REFUND DISPUTE (SEPT 2024-MAR 2025) Keith apologized for including the unapproved floor-leveler charge on our final bill. We requested about a 10% refund due to recurring problems and incomplete fixes. He verbally agreed in March 2025 but later avoided the subject. We still haven't received any compensation. BBB complaint pending.

After going back and forth with Albana Roofing and our financing provider basically all summer, things were finally approved in the last week of August, and we signed a contract with Albana Roofing stating that work would begin by 9/20 and commence by 9/24, weather permitting. All of September was beautiful, so that wasn't the reason why the work didn't get done. I found myself in the beginning of October, still waiting on these roofers! I'm assuming they had bigger jobs that took priority because they were making more money. We had to pull our financing (though we have other means to pay for the job), and Al called me wanting to know what was going on. He informed me that I put them in a bad place because they "already ordered materials" which is something that he had been telling me, and my husband, since before we even signed a contract with them! I told him that I was going to talk to our financing provider and that if it came down to it, I could probably just give him a credit card number. He told me that he would talk to his brother and get back to me later than night via e-mail. I never heard back. Since then, I sent Al two e-mail just wanting to know what was going on. The cherry on top is that when I went to follow up with Al one final time via e-mail this morning, it bounced back! He blocked my e-mail address!!! What kind of terrible business owner does that?! I was very nice, understanding and patient throughout the entire process. Thank god we didn't give them any money. Albana was in business longer than most of the others, did not subcontract the work, was rated the best with the Better Business Bureau (A+), was rated the best on HomeAdvisor and Yelp (5 stars on each). In addition, they did not use felt as a layer (an obsolete process), and they took physical rather than satellite measurements. Sonny, who attended our Board Meeting, answered questions, provided samples, and gave financing options. He is an exemplary professional. Sonny's highest priority is making everyone happy. Work was timed according to everyone's schedules. The grounds were also kept safe and orderly. When the project was finished, it was done in a timely fashion, conformed to code, and looked wonderful. A few months after the work was done, a freak wind gust exceeded the 130mph rating on the shingles. Albana was back on the job and repaired the damage. Based on all of the above, Albana was a dream to work with. I cannot recommend them highly enough. When we eventually get to do siding on our buildings, they will be at the top of our list to get that job done also.
