I found them through Angi's and called them for a rather…read morelarge project: rebuild chimney from the roofline, seal foundation around the chimney from the outside, and repoint and fix up the basement element of the chimney. All told, the estimate was $15,000 which was less than other contractors quoted us, so we hired them: that was a mistake. They take no pride in the work they do and the actual workers cut corners and seem to have very little support from management. Since they left the work site, there is a giant pit where they dug up to access the foundation. There is a difference between settling and this pit. This is not settling. This is cutting corners to finish the job quickly. Since the pit revealed itself, I have found entire bricks, pieces of metal, giant screws, large chunks of mortar, and...what seems to be an entire flue. It was all just buried about two inches below the dirt, that once "settled" it was all revealed. Absolute laziness. They also threw the bricks off the roof, damaging my gutter extender. The workers also carted large volumes of dirt and dumped it in a flower bed with young bushes we planted last Fall in my backyard. Never talked to me about it, never asked. I've been working to shift that dirt around to salvage the plants, but I imagine they are dead by now. Given the carelessness of this exterior work, the amount of debris I heard falling into my chimney and on top of my gas fireplace insert is likely still in there and it would not surprise me if it was damaged as well. Finally, they repointed the brickwork in my basement: I am still cleaning up the basement trying to remove the dust and debris. They used plastic sheeting to "seal off" the work area, but...it didn't work. The basement is absolutely caked in the dust, and it has taken me multiple attempts to mop, dust, and vacuum to clean it up. I'm still trying to clean it up. Also, they used personal items from my basement to hold the plastic sheeting in place. Again, didn't ask, didn't talk to me about it, just did it. Once I realized how poorly they approached their work, I tried calling the number on their website only to realize it was different from the Angi's one and "out of service." Honestly, I would have paid several thousand dollars more for someone who takes pride in the work they do and respects that the work site is someone's home than hire these guys. You want cheap prices, you're going to get cheap work.

The Contractor told us they would level the back yard and install drainage, the work for this job was done very haphazardly. After spending over $8,000 I am still getting water in my basement and my back yard is a complete mess. I've reached out to them multiple times to only be met with what I feel is a cold shoulder. They said they will send out a mason to raise the cellar door yet no one has come out, its been over 2 weeks now I've been blown off multiple times. The drainage areas are sinking in and they didn't even bother to level my yard like what was agreed upon. When we brought it up to them they told us that we were responsible for leveling the back yard and they had gone over that when explaining the scope of the work, if I had any inclination that would of been the case I would have picked another contractor. They never mentioned anything along those lines and lied right to us. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this contractor.

I was initially impressed with Martin's knowledge and demeanor, but disappointed with the final results. The chimney looked worse from the ground. Damaged bricks were noticeable and when I questioned Martin about using the worn out bricks I was told I received what he quoted and the work was guaranteed for 15-years against leaks. Martin pointed out a second chimney had a lose crown that needed to be cemented in place and it could be done for $500. I had subsequently received a quote from another mason for $4200 to repair both chimney's including 24 courses of new brick. I had the second mason work on the second chimney and remove the chimney crown using 2 courses of new brick with a new 4" thick latex modified concrete cap with an 1 1/2" overhang. Damaged flu's that were cracked were replaced and a new rain cap was installed. When I asked about the chimney Affordable Roofing & Masonry had worked on I was told the bricks should be replaced to the roof line or removed and the roof repaired. Affordable Roofing & Masonry did not offer these options. I didn't know anything about chimney repair at the time and had difficulty finding a mason to do the work. I liked the responsiveness of Affordable Roofing & Masonry, but I would never use them again.
