The name "Peony's Envy" (yes, a pun on "Penis Envy") should have been the warning. From the moment…read morewe arrived, the scene said everything: the owner, a shrill woman, stood at the entrance to her large property, cash jar in hand, shamelessly collecting ten dollars even for infants. Meanwhile, the staff worked in the hot sun doing the actual labor in the gardens.. the perfect image of rustic charm built on someone else's sweat, wrapped in a veneer of virtue. Apparently, even a fleeting snapshot of a bloom was fair game for her cash jar. The trail is short. Mostly I saw bare dirt and only a few struggling blooms. The path runs close to the neighbor's property, giving a clear view into their backyard, and cars coming and going can't be appreciated by neighbors either. One has to wonder if there's even a zoning issue with this setup. When leaving, we tried to avoid the owner but she stopped our exit and insisted we return for the "picnic" event on her lawn, where we could "bring some wine and pretend this is all yours." Talk about grotesque privilege and complete lack of self-awareness. Later, I saw on her website that the "picnic" costs $20 per person with no refreshments or amenities. If you actually appreciate flowers and fairness, in spring go to The Farm at Green Village or the Swamp Greenhouses instead.. huge, amazing peonies, more scenic paths, free or fairly priced entry, and honest work, with none of the pretense.

Their peonies really are to be envied. Their stunning selection requires patience to grow. Easily…read morecould take a couple of years to see them surface in full glory. Totally worth the wait!

I even took two days off (Thursday & Friday) to accommodate their arrival. He never showed. No call. No email. Nothing. Only after I reached out did I get a half-baked apology and a promise for "next week." Once bitten, twice shy - I didn't rearrange my schedule again. And surprise, surprise... he didn't show then either. After multiple calls and multiple trips back to their nursery, I finally decided to walk away. I genuinely wanted to support a local business, especially since I'd heard good things back when the old owner and James' father ran the place. Whatever this new operation is, it's not that. The scheduling is loose, vague, and entirely for their convenience, with zero regard for the customer's time. And when they don't meet even their own open-ended commitments, there's still no remorse - almost as if avoiding accountability is the business model. Must be nice to be handed something instead of having to build it from the ground up. Given the other reviews I'm now seeing, I may have dodged a bullet. Good riddance, Truesdale.

I was not satisfied with the selection so I decided to grab some fresh fruits for my blender instead. As I was checking out I noticed there was a sign that said "$10 minimum for card", unprompted, I picked up a bag of the most expensive spinach I could find in the fridge just to make the minimum. The woman behind the counter said "that won't make it okay!!" Then went to the fridge to seek a more expensive bag, only to find that was the biggest one. She came back and tossed it towards me, it rung up $9.77. She proceeded to go into a diatribe in a tone I did not appreciate exclaiming, " it would help if you carried cash on you! I get charged a fortune every time you use credit!" I said I don't like carrying cash on me and that I was sorry. Mind you this was TWENTY THREE CENTS under ten bucks and the customer in front of me just used a card (why is this even offered as a service if she is so vehemently against the use of card?). She then proceeded to chastise me further about this as my card processed. I immediately wished I was back in Brooklyn where the black owned businesses and immigrant upstarts are always grateful to their customers and use the simple square service for cards that can be utilized on any iPad or iPhone. All I wanted was some flowers and was already feeling sad about my grandfathers birthday and him not being here to celebrate. For all the locals, go to Wightman's farms as their produce is always very fresh and they seem to be very friendly towards customers. I have been in restaurants where the customer service was lousy and the product was good, but at this farm stand was not even of high quality product, I bought some blueberries that looked good but after a handful they were all rotten and looked to be from the dregs of the season. I will never again support such lousy customer service, perhaps treating a customer with an ounce of respect was too much to ask. I didn't bust my rear end to spend my hard earned dollar to a service that doesn't appreciate my business. Arrivederci crane farms !!.
