No, this is not a scare tactic, because you decide to repair the items or not. They will have pictures to show you what the current condition is like my brakes, they were not making any noise, but they were at a critical state that left unrepaired and waited until it was making screeching noise I was in for more expensive repair. One one of my cars, they heard a rattling noise in the heater box area and it turned out where I was living in middle desert in so ca, I had left my car parked in the open for 5 months and a mouse / rat decided to make my heater box it's new home. I thought all was good until I noticed an oil spot on my driveway. I checked my level and I was 2 quarts low.. The Valvoljne geniuses forced (cross threaded) a filter that was not made for my truck. It leaked like a sieve! I had to cut the filter off in order to remove it. I took photos and verified from the numbers off the filter they installed that it was the wrong one. Took my Tacoma to a local dealership and they quoted me nearly 1,000 dollars to fix the odd noise. Of course I was going to get a second opinion, so I decided to check out A Werks. They diagnosed the problem differently and I was out the door with only a little over 100 dollars spent. Everyone working there was really friendly. They also have WiFi in their waiting area if you have work to take care of. Also, If you're a veteran they take 10 percent off your total bill. I will definitely be taking my truck here again.
