I have been a customer for a while now and I have had multiple cars foreign and domestic worked on by them. Yes, I came in with only a couple of items that needed to be repaired, but left with having other items worked on. Once they have done a diagnostic check on your vehicle they give you the awareness of the different things that need to be serviced. No, this is not a scare tactic, because you decide to repair the items or not. They will have pictures to show you what the current condition is like my brakes, they were not making any noise, but they were at a critical state that left unrepaired and waited until it was making screeching noise I was in for more expensive repair. I like the fact they give me the option on to fix or wait until I'm ready. There approach is not a hard sell, I like Kat approach to the repairs. One one of my cars, they heard a rattling noise in the heater box area and it turned out where I was living in middle desert in so ca, I had left my car parked in the open for 5 months and a mouse / rat decided to make my heater box it's new home. I had them fix the issue and it also explained why I was having sinus issues whey driving the car for extended periods of time. I appreciate they found the issue and I gave them the go head to fix it. read more

We are traveling through town in 90 degree plus weather when our AC started blowing hot air. We called Crabtree and they got us in right away, diagnosed the issue and got us on our way in a matter of a few hours. The fix was reasonably priced and the staff was unbelievably kind and accommodating. They gave us a ride downtown to kill a few hours while they fixed our van and picked us up afterwards. OK, so, first things first: I did have a bit of a personal misunderstanding/disagreement with one of the people at the front desk (Kat), but we worked it out, addressed the issue, and she's an absolutely lovely person. I think, if you should find yourself in the same position here or elsewhere, it's important to talk it out. I'm so glad that I did. When I first felt offended, I planned on giving an angry one or two star review, which wouldn't have been fair considering the otherwise great service and considering how nice Kat and the other folks at Crabtree reallt On to the car side of things: they thoroughly checked my car and quickly fixed the main issue. They also found other issues that needed to be addressed and got those fixed at a reasonable price (I did find ~$130 a bit steep for installing a Prius 12V battery but then again I didn't want to do it despite having the ability, so I'll consider it fair). They found an issue that I couldn't afford to fix just yet but they did explain it to me and let me know how I could prevent it from becoming an even bigger problem -- and better yet, they didn't try to pressure me into spending money I don't have to fix it. All in all, it was a great experience at Crabtree and I will definitely take my car here again. read more

Brought vehicle in for oil change and tire rotation at 8 am and was told it would be done by 4pm.They then called us around 10:30am. Had to have it towed away, the ignition cylinder froze/ seized up. This is not the first time I have felt as if they are trying to bleed me dry, but it is the last. They wanted to charge me for diagnostic on the cylinder. It was working perfectly fine when we dropped it off. The guy working kept saying he was sorry and that it wasn't his intent on leaving us high and dry. Then this Kate/kat name got thrown into the mix, not sure who this person is but obviously they run things and don't allow anyone else make decisions. I am now stuck having to pay for something that wasn't broken to begin with. read more

They will be so sweet to your face at the counter or on the phone, but then F... you over in all sorts of unbelievable ways such as recommending services that aren't needed, saying they fixed something when they really didn't, and "fixing" things that didn't need repaired in the first place. Having 8 used cars we were "one of their favorite customers" falling for so many tricks for years! We finally figured it out! Their loss!! DONT FALL for it!!!!! This is my second time using Crabtree Automotive. The first time I was blown away by their friendliness, customer service and amazing detail to texting you about all the info with pictures about your car and let you know what needs to be done. I've never seen or heard of something so personal and helpful. In my opinion the best touch was the goodie bag left in my car, appreciating me for trusting them with my vehicle. WOW! 10 stars if I could. Kat the receptionist is amazing and on top of customer service and is very helpful. The drivers that take you home or pick you up to pick up your car, the sweetest and friendliest. I've been in many of cars and they don't speak a word to you. Had a price quote of $1000. 100 over dealership without using Oem parts. Said one day lead time. Lady called said I need upper and lower hoses they were leaking and hasn't touched my car. Extra 300. Total 1300. I said "no if they are leaking and you haven't touched my car. I'll be in to pick it up .. she called back said car was indeed taken apart and I can't come grab my car. When I arrived I complained how unprofessional it was to up price things that are not OEM (dealership said 850.00) they said 1008. Now it's 1300.90 Lil talking and final bill was 835.00 how can that be.. price check people .. tried to rob me .. plus after all that torx screws lose and coolent level 2 inch low.. not happy never again .. read more

Crabtree Automotive - Lack of quality.. - Auto Repair Near Me - Albany, Oregon

Let's start with why I wish I could give them minus stars and why Crabtree is getting sued by "others". Look it up, there is a Law suite against Crabtree right now. Long story short. NEVER go to Crabtree. They will overcharge you, mess up your vehicle even more and then they won't hold up their "Warranty". My issue/opinion: Pre-Covid: Their service was good. They showed and explained why I needed to have parts. They gave me a detailed estimate of the bill (part numbers and what not), sent me updated emails/bills, before they added more work. Just an all-around good experience. Post- Covid: BIG FREAKING JOKE!! I took my vehicle in because of an insurance claim. (Someone rearend me, the other persons insurance sent me there. December 2022.) Crabtree did a "Once around" to make sure there was no frame damage. The frame was fine. Crabtree came back with a "laundry list" of things that needed to be done. Most were general maintenance, some were not. The estimated quote was @ $3200. (Make note, this is a "New to Me" vehicle. I bought this vehicle in June 2022. I didn't know that the general maintenance had not been done.) Their estimate was quite high. I had to save money for the work to be done. The items that were pointed out were not a "Need FIX now", more like "You should have these done, soon". Before all of this rearend issues, I had new tires put on, October 2022. (I had no problems with the vehicle before or after the rearend.) Fast forward to March 2023, my appointment with Crabtree. First, I physically went in to make the appointment and made sure they had all the needed parts. They said yes and put me on the schedule. They gave me a new estimate of over $3500. (Okay, I know prices can change, but $300+ more, in less than 3 months.) I was told it would be a 1-day job. I dropped my vehicle before the shop opened so they had my vehicle first thing. Fast forward to that afternoon. I got a phone call telling me that I needed more work done than they had quoted. If I have it done today, it'll save me money. (HELLO!!! Why were these items not found in the original December 2022 estimate? Oh, THEY didn't take good enough pictures on the December 2022 appointment they said.) So now I am being told that more items are being added to the work order. "Whatever, send me an updated estimate bill with the new parts listed and let me look it over." NO estimate was given, just it'll be "X" more added. Fine, I'm still getting my vehicle back today, right? Well, I don't know, we'll call you back. NOPE, Crabtree called me as I'm 2 blocks away telling me that they won't have the vehicle done. (So on to day 2) Day 2: I got a call telling me that they need to add more items to the work order. The bill is now sitting over $3900. I declined them adding more parts. Crabtree tells me it SHOULD be done, today. Now I'm picking my vehicle up at the end of day 2. I'm told that I really should have had them put the "Other" parts in, that I had declined. I was also told to drive it for @ 1000 miles and then bring it back to have them look everything over. Remember this is the beginning of March 2023. (I had to request an itemized bill. The lady gave me gruff over my request. Every mechanic shop I've ever gone to has always given an itemized bill with no questions asked.) @ 3 weeks later: I'm still having issues. I was driving from southern Oregon back to Portland around 8pm, when the worst possible thing happened, my engine blew. After looking up local auto shops, I found Crabtree by positive review, and distance from where I was. So I had the car towed. Upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprise to find they had after hours envelops/info sheets with pens directly above the after hours key drop. Crabtree called as soon as they had received my car to and then proceeded with the inspection. They called back to give the crippling news and ask what I was planning to do. I said I would have the car towed home and I'd figure it out. I asked what the bill would be, and they said they would wave the fee given the severity of my situation. Very pleased with they're customer service, and would definitely use them in the future if the unspeakable was to ever happen again. read more

Upon driving it, Devon knew exactly what was going on. While they were doing an oil change, they noticed some items that needed attention. I was given a list of the items with a description of the item, the price, and a handwritten note about which was a safety issue, and which was something to keep an eye on. This was one the BEST experiences I have EVER had in my 50 years with a Mechanic. They were friendly, accommodating, EASY to work with, HONEST and even came in lower than the quote! Five stars down to one. I had two good experiences with them over the years but the third was unacceptable. My car would only start if I wiggled the key and turned the wheel to the left. I spent $120 for them to look at it. They concluded it was a bad connection within the key cylinder and was going to cost me a grand and a trip to Portland to replace and re-key it. I started to do some research on the web and found there are a dozen ways an ignition system could have issues. I am sure the key cylinder has some wear but was that really the issue? I called them and asked if they checked all the switches and relays beyond the key. The guy I talked to was defensive and seemed offended that I would question their work. However, the short answer was no, they did not check the entire ignition system. So I got on the web again and taught myself everything there was to know about my ignition system. I figured out how to pull the ignition switch (took five minutes) and put a $10 multi-meter on it. All the connections worked accept the start connection. The next day I went down to O'Relly's and installed a new $20 ignition switch in their parking lot. So, $30 in tools/parts and 20 minuets labor got my car starting every time. The paperwork they gave me says the mechanic pulled the ignition switch and it "felt OK." Had he taken a moment to put a Ohm meter on it he would have found the problem. They could have charged me another $80 in parts and labor and I would have been happy to pay it. That all said, the guy I talked to should have admitted they did not check the entire ignition system and asked me to bring my car back in so they could. If they did they would have kept my future business, the five star rating and made even more money off me. read more

They will charge you (a lot) to just look at your vehicle, then give you an estimate 2-3x more than other places and yet still not diagnose a very clear issue. If you want that other issue diagnosed it costs more. But- they sure do have a fancy shop to work in! We used to use Crabtree for the vehicles at my place of work, we stopped because the service was not up to par but I tried them out myself because I thought maybe it was a corporate "issue" but that lesson cost me personally this time. read more

Worst mechanic experience ever. Brought my mini in because it was not starting every time. Charged me $1,068 for new spark plugs and a valve cover! WTF - overpriced much? Then 3 weeks later my car is doing the same thing. Instead of offering to back their work, or refund my money, they told me the problem was something else entirely and it would cost $800 for a used module and that they couldn't guarantee it. Upon my own research used modules cost 150-400 for my car so this estimate was pure greed. I had to ASK them to come down on the price because they certainly didn't offer. In the end i took my car back unfixed. From the get go this place handled everything poorly and took no responsibility. Overcharged worse than I've ever experienced, and i walked away feeling taken advantage of and angry. This place does NOT back their work or care about their customers. Beware of this business. Brought our car in for an electrical repair and was given a list of other things that were wrong and told us some of them made the car unsafe to drive. They wanted to charge me 99 dollars for something called a level one diagnostic even though I was positive and told them it was an alternator problem. Guess what? Their level one diagnostic showed I had an alternator problem. There was a big surprise. This business must be making a fortune charging every customer that enters their door 99.00 before any repair work is done. And the other repairs they said our car needed? I was able to get them done at other car repair shops for less than half of the prices they quoted and was also told by those other mechanics that the car was in fact safe to drive. Beware Crabtree automotive repair. They are a very unscrupulous business using scare tactics to con people into making expensive unnecessary repairs and charge for unnecessary diagnostic services. read more

What a Gimmick! My water pump is giving out and I looked into getting a new one. I purchased the part for $35 (NAPA), but my mechanic friend won't be able to replace it for the next couple of weeks. Cold weather is about to set in, so I'm on a time crunch. I got a quote from here and they were going to charge $500! They wanted to do way more than just replace the water pump. They insisted that I needed to replace the serpentine belt ($28.35 at NAPA) and thermometer ($35.10 at NAPA) both of which were replaced less then 10,000 miles before), and a coolant flush (which I could understand that charge). I was expecting between $150-250 for labor and the water pump, not double my highest price. Be sure to visit this shop if you want to be ripped off! read more

Absolute honest review, Received one of their coupons in the mail and brought our truck down to their shop to try them out. It's a very nice shop with lots of bells and whistles, yet the gentleman we first talked to did not LISTEN to us, that's the biggest problem we encountered. We asked for three things; oil change, windshield washer line to be fixed and a flashing service engine light to be looked at. We EXPLAINED to the gentleman the line is leaking under the battery, no problem. The gentleman then said you might have some raw fuel in the catalytic converter and that's why you are getting a flashing service light, but we will find out. We also told him the transmission had just been rebuilt by another shop in town. He said Ok, and then asked us for the flyer we received in the mail and told us he would call us. They called us the next day, the truck is finished. When we get to the shop they give us this big long list of services they recommend; hoses, fluids, etc, including the transmission fluid that had just been changed when the transmission had been rebuild, the guy never wrote down in the notes what we told him about the transmission. We then asked about the windshield washer line, they charged us to diagnose the line but didn't fix it, so we'll take out the battery where it's leaking and fix it ourselves. Then we asked about the service light and the gentleman looked at us kind of lost and said "I don't have a record to look at the light", again first gentleman didn't put it in the notes. Then we said what about the flier and he said "You have a flier?" again with that lost look. That's when the other person we first dealt with handed it to him, he then adjusted the bill. You get lots of fancy sheets and stuff but they really don't listen to you. The oil change was done, total bill was around $100.00 and that was with synthetic oil.
