When my fellow co-workers in VA told me that Lucky Boy was a superb place for lunch I sort of drew a blank stare. But they were sure right. From the time I walked in to the time I left. Nothing but smiling faces and excellent service. Started off with the hummus plate, moved on to soup du jour and then main coursed it with a slouvaki sandwhich. Perfect choice for lunch appetite. The service is 100% the servers remember us every time we walk in always asking how we are & how's everything. Our family of 15 went to a late lunch after a family funeral at a nearby cemetery. I made the reservation with only Yelp reviews to go on, since we were all from out of town. WOW! The staff in this little non-descript restaurant bent over backwards to serve us and make sure we were happy. They did not seem to mind that we stayed for over 2 hours. Several of us had the Gyro Special with lamb, chicken, salad and pita. The falafel salad was also quite good and enormous! The desserts are all home made and well worth the calories! Dear Bridget :), thank you so much for your kindness, warmth, authenticity and generosity! Our family shared a souvlaki pita, 2 Greek salads (included with main dishes), a gyro plate and a moussaka, with hot bread, pitas, oil & butter (come with everything else) and a slice of coconut pie. Portions are huge, various sides are offered, veggies are abundant, everything tasted great, fresh and homemade. We honestly couldn't have asked for more and would definitely be regulars if we had the chance of living any closer. What a great dive, I was on my way to chipotle and I stopped here instead. I ordered the vegetable pie with a side order of steamed veggies. Everything was excellent and the food around me looked great. I would 100% come back here again for a home cooked meal. Even though I am a vegetarian so my options are limited, I want to try he spinach pie next time. I wish I was in the mood to try their coconut cream pie but I was too full. Ordered for takeout. Guy over the phone said 20 minutes. When we arrived 20 minutes later, BAM, food was ready. Parking is kinda weird. There seems to be a small parking lot on the side of the restaurant but there's no ramp to pull in. And by 'no ramp' I mean the curb does not indent for your car to pull in. Seeing that I drive a sedan and was not in the mood to lose my front bumper, I just pulled up down the street. Onto the food -- I ordered the gyro special. Everything was very good except for the tzatziki sauce. That is where I had to take a star off. It wasn't as thick and creamy as I am accustomed to. Not that I'm a tzatziki connoisseur or anything but I like it when my sauce clings to the meat. It had a cole slaw style consistency. Aside from that, everything else tastes great. Normally I wouldn't take a star off just for sauce but I feel for a gyro of sorts, the tzatziki sauce in particular should really bring the plate together. then again what do I know LOL. read more

The outside appearance might throw you initially but, inside is definitely clean and nice. Waiter was absolutely perfect. The Greek salad is so good and more than enough. My family and I have been ordering from Lucky Boy since I can remember. It's been over 20 years and we've had Lucky Boy almost every weekend of my life. While we rarely eat in the actual restaurant it is a nice place. It is small so if you're looking to have a sit down dinner I suggest going earlier due to the limited amount of tables. Whenever we go in to pick up our order there is always a line of people waiting to be seated! Only downside is it is a pain in the butt to park. The food is great and they always listen to special instructions. Order the homemade bread!!! read more

Great food, outstanding homemade deserts, the owners are great, the waitresses are the best, and the rest of the staff are all super friendly. You are guaranteed to feel at home there. Lucky Boy has been around for over 30 years and represents everything good that The 5 Towns used to be. I recommend the lamb shank, chicken Parmesan, they make a great piece of grilled salmon. Long time Greek BYOB dinette in Lawrence for me was a complete misfire. Warm bread served with a lite olive oil dip with a hunk of butter...? Butter with olive oil? Why would you do that? Next was an enormous Caesar salad. However, no croutons! That's the best part of a Caesar and they completely omitted it! Plus, the dressing kind of just tasted like garlic and oil. I came in just wanting a gyro but we got suckered into ordering one of the specials. The waitress made each of them sound delicious, truly a great sales person. Using words like "outrageous" to sell the dishes. The one I ordered sounded interesting, curry chicken. It came with a kind of rice and boiled veggies. I hate to say this, but was a notch above airline food. The curry sauce was virtually flavorless and the rice was a grainy textured disaster. What fared better (slightly) was the Greek sausage and meatball special with zucchini pasta. The sausage was delicious, the chicken and spinach meatball was pretty good but the zucchini pasta was underwhelming and the marinara sauce was way too heavy on the garlic. When it was all said and done, I felt like a sucker. Both entrees weren't good and at $24.95 each, I felt a bit ripped off. Portions are large for the price but to only be able to eat so little of it makes it a waste. $70 for two with drinks and tip for a disappointing meal. Yet, many people absolutely love this place. The staff are welcoming and friendly. Again, our waitress surely knows how to up sell. Unfortunately, she up sold an inferior product. I LOVE this place! From the unlikely name and exterior (think little 'dive' Chinese restaurant because that's what I thought when I first saw it) to the fresh Greek food to the bustling crowd of local regulars and the friendly staff that never seems to change, you can count on a great meal at a reasonable price. I'm a big fan of the salads here. My favorite is the Baby Greens salad with Salmon on top. It is Greek style (in that it still has the peppers, cucumbers, black olives and feta) which I LOVE and the portions! Ha! The first time they brought a salad out to me here I laughed out loud because the bowl is the same size as my large mixing bowl in my kitchen! Full disclosure, I have had better sauces: hummus and tsaziki, but the huge portions, fresh foods, fish cooked to perfection more than makes up for that. Probably not a place I would drive ling distances out of my way to come to if you are in the area (and with Costco right across the street many are) believe me, it's a great little find. read more

Wow! I can't believe this place has been sitting right under my nose for the past many years and I've NEVER even thought about stepping inside the door.... actually I never noticed it even though its right across the street from Costco where I've found myself at on a number of occasions. It was only when one of my friends went here (After a another friend raved about it to him) that I decided to join him for dinner there. Since he first ate here, he's been coming back nearly every friday and saturday for dinner or lunch, and as extreme as that might sound, I kind of get it. Lucky Boy is not your average Long Island restaurant; in fact if you looked at it, you may think otherwise and just pass it over. From the basic exterior, to the poor location and parking; you'd expect nothing out of the ordinary. The inside is fairly small and it has an old yet plain decor, which is fine but won't win any awards. Now what is it about Lucky Boy that makes this possibly the best restaurant in at least a 5 mile radius? Two words: The food. Like many others have been saying on here, everything that Lucky Boy makes is from scratch, and it shows when you take that first bite into the warm, delicious pita and semolina bread they bring out to you. If I wasn't starving I could make a nice little meal out of that alone. From my two experiences here I've ordered the gyro special and the cheeseburger platter both of which went way beyond my already semi-high expectations. Portions are big with each meal and came with a big bowl of greek salad (Full of plenty fresh veggies and feta cheese) and a couple of generously portioned sides. With the burger I had humongous, crispy steak fries, and onion rings with a similar girth, both of which being fantastic. Its even more impressive that I wanted to eat the onion rings since I'm in general very indifferent of them. The burger was juicy but not fatty and had a great ratio of bun to meat, meaning I didn't have to worry about toppings sliding out or not having anything to hold onto. The gyro platter was equally tasty with loads of gyro strips and some shish-kebab. Despite how full I was getting I resolved to nearly lick my plate clean since just letting a fry go uneaten here would be nothing short of a travesty. I did not try any of the dessert items but I can tell you that they all are homemade and you're given a large portion. My friends swear that any of these dishes are delicious and I plan on trying one of them eventually... if I'm daring enough I'll go on to sample the entire dessert menu over time. I also must mention that the staff is extremely friendly and on both occasions I've met the owners who really do their best to make sure you are both comfortable and satisfied with your meal. The rest of the staff is great too and they give a very welcoming vibe. Lastly, the prices are for the most part reasonable, especially for some of their regular specials like the gyro platter and more. Some of the pricer dinner items compensate for their price with large portions that may ultimately give you a second day of leftovers if you don't have the strength to take it all down. I let Lucky Boy slip by me for so many years and wish I could go back in time and tell myself 10 years ago what this place was like, and though I have no Deloreon to take me back, I can make sure you know to not pass this place up. I had really no other choice to eat here but was surprised to find such good food and service behind doors that open into such a busy street in an average neighborhood. I had fresh trout and spinach and potato the same as if I had prepared it for myself in my own kitchen. Fresh bread and great olive oil or butter. Washed it down with a Heineken. Almost every time (they're not open Sundays) that we are traveling back to the city from my in-laws in the five towns, we order pick up. If you want a family owned, absolutely homemade menu with attentive bus boys and servers that actually listen, THIS PLACE IS FOR YOU! The parking is in the rear of the building and seating is limited so come prepared to wait a few minutes. But having a glass of wine and fellowshipping with complete strangers passes the time perfectly. This place by far has some of the best food in the area hands down. Lucky boy is a Greek restaurant in Five Towns. It's at a location where you can almost drive past it and not notice it. If you just got in from a flight at JFK this is a great spot to grab a bite to eat. They have consistently good food. I typically order the same things when I go. Nothing fancy. Sometimes a salad which are pretty big or gyro, fries, or burger. What I really love is there coconut cream pie. It's a must-have. If you plan on going definitely order one to stay, and one to go. Actually, most of their desserts are really good. The apple crisp was also delicious. It gets pretty busy but has a family atmosphere. Customer service is good as well. Parking isn't amazing at all. I LOVEEE Lucky Boy ..... My family has been coming here for over 20 years and the quality and service has always been excellent and top notch.. On my last visit I ordered kalamari with salad my son ordered bacon cheeseburger w French fries,wife ordered gyro and so did my other son ..... The waiters brought over pita bread and a topping for it ... Not too long after our food arrived .... My salad was excellent and was garnished with feta cheese the kalamaris were excellent and the marinara sauce was full with flavor.... My son said he really enjoyed his burger and also the fries are not those frozen ones .... They are freshly made by the chef .... My son said his gyro was great and very filling my wife said the meat was excellently marinated ... As a dessert I ordered a pudin dessert that was so good! Wow! I believe this was the best Greek restaurant I've had dinner at. It was so incredible ...the Greek salad was fresh and huge. I ordered the lamb chops with sautéed spinach and rice. The lamb chops were delectable!! So full of flavor. The portions are quite large and you will most likely need a box to go. The wait staff is friendly and helpful with just the right amount of attentiveness! While the ambience is very simple, it still has the feel of an old school Greek diner. The food is "OK"...what really annoys me is that this place gets so packed, you can't even walk. It's located on a main street, so there is NEVER any parking, Even in the backlot. Don't go there at lunch! It takes about 45 minutes to make your food, and you wont even be seated right away. Honestly, i give it 2 stars because the food is "OK", but i've had better. My family and I ate there tonight after reading the great reviews on Yelp. First, I have to say the staff was awesome! We had a party of 6 and had to wait for about 20 mins before we were seated, and one of the gentlemen behind the counter presented us with a plate of gyro meat to try. It was beyond flavorful! My 1 year old fussed at me to give him more, which the people behind the counter found to be hilarious. So, here is where it goes left... We ordered the fried zucchini and it had no flavor at all. Just breaded and fried. The sauce was even bland. For an entrée I ordered the chicken souvlaki and it was also bland. To say I was disappointed is putting it mildly. My expectations were pretty high after reading the reviews. After tasting the gyro meat I just new this experience would be great, and I was let down. I'm still giving Lucky Boy 3 stars bc the staff was extremely welcoming, the dessert I ordered (some apple pastry) was absolutely delicious and I can tell the Gyro is where it's at for this place. Driving to the Holiday Inn near JFK, the restaurant situation looked very discouraging. Thanks to Yelp, however, we found Lucky Boy. I can't remember ever visiting a restaurant that was friendlier or more welcoming. Beverages were refilled instantly, the staff was warm and gracious, and my exhausted mother and teenage daughter were instantly put at ease. Best of all, though, the food was amazing. My picky daughter finished every bite of her souvlaki chicken sandwich, and my mother and I loved the gyro plate, which included shish kabob and a small Greek salad. I only wish we had Greek food like this in Connecticut. I am not exaggerating when I say that I will book flights out of JFK in the future just to eat at Lucky Boy. read more
