I visited this restaurant yesterday for the first time since Covid. I was very disappointed. The glasses on the table were throwaway plastic and the hot coffee was served in a to-go insulated cup with a lid. It took 25 minutes for my food to come out and it was pretty bad! I had assumed they were preparing it fresh but it was microwaved! I thought only fast-food places used disposable drinking glasses and microwaves. I have no idea why a restaurant would have a microwave! I have advised my sons and nephews to avoid this restaurant with their dates. I know that I will not be returning there! read more

I've had Traditions quite a few times from catered orders. The food has always been good. The spicy boneless chicken they have is by far the best thing I've had from here, SO today myself and a friend decided to come in for lunch. We assumed since the food is always pretty good when catered why not eat in. Obviously (2 star review) we were wrong. First off the whole lunch was almost an hour and a half ordeal. There was maybe one other table seated. We had to ask for the menus, get up and ask to order, and get up to bring the check up front because service was so freaking slow. Anyway..the food: -Chicken Sandwich (Shnitzle): 2/5, I ordered this because of the chicken I've had when they catered so I thought it'd be the same. It was not. Very dry and tasted like frozen precooked chicken cutlet. The ranch dressing "saved" it and gave some flavor which made it edible. I felt gross and nauseous after eating this though. -Alaska Salmon Entree: 0/5, my friend ordered this and asked me to try it because he said it tasted like hot dogs. I'll put it this way...hot dogs would've been a step up from what I tasted. It was like a fishy flavored piece of rubber. Not once in any of my 100+ reviews have I scored food at a zero. But this was absolutely horrendous. I had to spit it out immediately. Really REALLY bad. -Sweet Potato Fries: 2/5, honestly probably the best thing I consumed here and even these kind of sucked. They weren't really fries but more like fat mushy wedge slices. Edible, but not very enjoyable. Overall I will never return here again for a meal. It actually really sucks because the food that I've had numerous times from the catered orders has always been enjoyable but today was just disgusting. The place itself is dungy and run down feeling, I felt like I had to wash my hands AFTER eating because the table, menu, ketchup bottle, just everything felt scummy. The prices were also pretty crazy too, almost $20 for the sandwich, & almost $30 for the rubber salmon!?! Cmon. I had gotten take out from traditions originally. I had a hamburger and fries. They where at best ok not really that good i ate about 3/4 and tased the rest. At this visit I can not say anything about the service as I did not go, Food was picked up by my daughter. The second time I actually went to Traditions for a party. There where arrox 40 guests for my daughters after wedding party. The service was excellent and the food was pretty good. We had a big private room which was nice. I've eaten a sandwich twice from this place (only out of convenience) and both times I've been incredibly disappointed. $18 for a pastrami sandwich, with microscopic pickles on the side, and the sandwich was gornisht. They don't even give you coleslaw on the side. For a Kosher deli/restaurant, this is appalling. In contrast, a place like Lido Kosher Deli which is "kosher style" and isn't considered "kosher enough" gives you a big fat sandwich, normal sized pickles, and coleslaw for the same price. Lido is the benchmark when it comes to what you would expect from a Kosher deli. The people in the community should not allow Traditions to get away with this, but they're the only game in town. We recently hosted a birthday event in the Traditions Oasis Room for the first time and the experience was just OK. Prior to the party it was hard to get in touch with anyone to discuss the details over the phone, and I would receive very short responses back to my questions over email. I did not feel very assured about anything prior to the event. Because this was my first time working with Oasis Catering, I would've appreciated more communication. On the day of, the two staff members leading the party of 75 had no idea about anything I requested over email. They didn't know it was for a birthday party, and acted confused when I told them we didn't need to keep the podium in the room that is there for lecture-type events. This led us to scramble an hour before the event while they were setting up the tables to figure out where we could place the bar, an additional table for cake, an area for entertainment, etc. There was a lot of last minute rearranging as a result which could have been avoided with more communication. The waitstaff also didn't realize that we had booked the room until 4pm, so things felt very rushed until I pointed that out to them. They were very nice and working hard but I am not sure why they weren't told anything other than the menu and number of guests. The room is nice and can be decorated in a number of ways. The food was good overall and the portions were substantial. It's a great perk that you can bring your own alcohol, as many other venues charge per person for that sort of thing. All in all things turned out fine thankfully, but had I not arrived 1.5 hours early (because I felt nervous about the lack of communication overall) it would have been a very different situation. I will definitely return to dine in the restaurant, but won't be using the event space again. read more

Nice place. But the bright fluorescent lighting and room layout is a bit awkward. Furnishings are all modern and nicely done. Waiters were very nice. Food is alright too. I like their hand cut fries. If they are frozen I'd be shocked Bc they are great. You can tell their food is homey and prepared fresh. I personally don't like deli food and there is a lot of that here and sandwiches. I was visiting friends in Long Island and have gone to traditions twice now, sat at a cute little booth and enjoyed my food both times. Great restaurant for dieting - you can't get fat if nobody takes your order and you don't get any food.

To begin they serve you pickles and Cole slaw. My pickles had several pieces of short black hair in it Blehggg it gives me the jitters just talking about it now. Secondly I ordered a burger no onions because I have a sensitivity to them was very clear about it and yet guess what there were onions!!! So I had to wait for another burger. Then the waiter disappears for 30 mins after asking every working person in the place to get our waiter. of course screaming across the whole restaurant finally gets his attention. This was by far one of my worst dining experiences at a kosher restaurant. This place needs to get it together and learn how to be and run a professional restaurant!!!! read more

There is a take out side with 2 tables and than a restaurant side with about 15 tables. Two different entrances but all connected. I was with my mother and sister and we came in the wrong entrance but quickly found our way. We sat down and were given water, lots of pickles, and cole slaw. We all looked over the menu and they seemed to have lots of choices. I ordered the fried chicken with a side of kasha varnishkas. The server was friendly and funny but the problem was he was the only server for the whole place. I felt bad for the guy. He was doing the best he could but 15 tables and one server, there is something wrong. The service was very very slow because of this. I finally got my food and the french fries were hot and crunchy. The kasha was very tasty and had lots of fried onions. I could have had 6 bowls of that stuff. The problem came with the chicken. While the four big pieces looked very appetizing the chicken tasted like it was frozen/freezer burnt before it was cooked. It didn't taste like fresh chicken. I am sorry but that is why you are lacking 2 stars. 1 for the slow service 1 for the frozen fried chicken The prices weren't to bad and my mother and sister seemed to enjoy their food. Just about the worst corned beef and pastrami I've ever tasted (and I'm a fat 58 year old Jewish guy, so I've eaten plenty of corned beef and pastrami). I threw out the second half of the sandwich because it's really not even good enough to give to my dog. The kasha knish was small, tasteless and not homemade, and worst of all, the so-called pastrami egg roll was disgustingly greasy, mostly filled with some kind of mushy semi-sweet cabbage and barely any meat in it. The egg roll would have been overpriced at $2.50. At $6.00, it was a total ripoff. I can't imagine any reason ever to back here again. We eat from this deli maybe twice monthly, and I'm very satisfied with the quality, taste, and texture of the meats. While I cannot comment on their sit down service, which I've heard sucks (as we only order for take away) I can absolutely recommend this food! The reason why I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is because the quality, texture and taste of the pickles is really awful. The whole pickles were limp, tasted "off" and were promptly spit out...yeah like that! As a person who grew up in NYC on great Delis, any deli that doesn't make you specifically want to come back for their incredible pickles has work to do. Take home points: great meat, nasty pickles...and for the prices they charge they should just give away nice pens instead of those pickles. ** Here's an update, I last ate at this establishment in March 2018, I made the mistake of ordering the *pastrami egg roll*, it tasted good going down. It was pretty bad food any anway. Not only was the dough on dough covered items underbaked but other items were greasy where frying was not involved. There service was not as good as the food. I felt the need to comment, since many of the previous comments were bothered by the outdated, Catskill Mountains style decor. They've renovated! I've been frequenting Traditions for years, mainly for their chicken gumbo soup and stacked deli sandwiches, and agree that the decor was less than appealing. However, the last time I went, just about a week ago, I entered a completely different restaurant. Updated, modern and clean - a real improvement to what was. Food is still pretty much the same, aside from sandwich size getting a little smaller (which I am not happy about). It's still the best waiter service, family style restaurant in the area for a decent price with good, comfort food. The sliced steak sandwich and sino steak platter are also great options! BEST MEAL FOR YOUR MONEY. This DIner style restaurant is the only good kosher meat place in the area that will give you a good meal and not break the bank. My favorites here are the Stuffed Derma and Romanian Tenderloin. Thier overstuffed deli sandwiches and liver are second to none. Anytime I'm sick I order chicken soup from Traditions. The soup is not bad at all...personally, I prefer Woodrow's Deli soup but I question their cleanliness so I order here instead. Hot dogs are great here. Knishes are knishes. The one main complaint we have is the pastrami sandwich...it's just not the same as other deli's in the area such as, for example, Lido Beach Deli. The pastrami at Traditions was lighter in color, colder and still fatty. It was seasoned in a way that my husband and I both found to be very off putting. read more
